THE following Notice to Mariners, which has been received
from the Comptroller of Customs, Suva, Fiji Islands,
is published for general information.

His Majesty’s Customs,
Suva, 21st January, 1931.
A light beacon is now being erected on Turtle Rock, the
approximate position being Lat. 17° 48′ S., Long. 177° 19′ E.
Mariners are hereby warned that while the work is in
progress a temporary 360° fixed white light will be exhibited
from the structure. This temporary light cannot, however, be
relied on as the vessel housing those employed may be away
at intervals, and, further, while the vessels are in the vicinity
of the rock they will be exhibiting their anchor lights.
It is contemplated that the structure will be completed
within 50 days from the date of this notice, and as soon as
possible after completion an AGA unattended flash-light will
be installed, the character of which will be as follows :
·15 seconds light + 1·35 seconds eclipse.
A further notice will be published when this light is installed.

Otago Harbour : Erection of Beacons.

Position : Black beacon with white light 022° 690 yards
from beacon on Quarantine Island (approx.).
Details : A white triangle has been erected on the above
black beacon and 200 yards 028° from it, a single-pile
structure carrying a white triangle and a green light
visible one mile has been erected. -
Position : Black beacon with white light 610 yards 217°
from beacon on Quarantine Island (approx.)
Details : A white triangle has been erected on the above
black beacon and 200 yards 208° from it, a single-pile
structure carrying a white triangle and a green light
visible one mile has been erected.
Remarks : The two sets of beacons in line 028° and 208°
respectively lead through the passage between Quarantine
and Goat Islands.
