as described in the Schedule hereto, be excepted from the operations of the Kauri-gum Industry Act, 1908, and it is expedient to give effect to such recommendation :

Now, therefore, I, General Sir Charles Fergusson, Baronet, Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the power and authority conferred upon me by section one hundred and sixty-two of the Land Act, 1924, and acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said Dominion, do hereby order and declare that portion of the Tatarariki Kauri-gum Reserve Extension No. 5, as described in the Schedule hereto, shall, from the thirty-first day of January, one thousand nine hundred and thirty, cease to be subject to the Kauri-gum Industry Act, 1908.

SCHEDULE.

ALL that area in the North Auckland Land District, Hobson County, containing by admeasurement 137 acres 2 roods 15 perches, more or less, being part Allotment 41 and Allotment 66, Parish of Tatarariki, and being portion of Tatarariki Kauri-gum Reserve Extension No. 5, as described in New Zealand Gazette, 1905, No. 16, page 535. Bounded towards the north-west by the boundary of Allotments 65 and 64 of the Parish of Tatarariki, bearing 60° 46′ distance 2,261·4 links; towards the north by the boundary of Allotments 63 and 73 (road reserve) of the said parish, bearing 90° 00′ distance 1,757·0 links; towards the north-east by a public road, bearing 150° 51′ 30″ distance 802·2 links; towards the south-east by the boundary of the other part of Allotment 41, withdrawn from reservation by New Zealand Gazette, 1912, No. 88, page 3399, and now known as Allotment 41A of the said parish, bearing 226° 31′ distance 1,039·1 links; again towards the north-east by the boundary of Allotment 41A aforementioned and the crossing of a public road, bearing 136° 31′ distance 599·7 links; again towards the north-west and north-east by public roads, bearing 46° 31′ distance 982·0 links, bearing 138° 38′ 30″ distance 1,417·4 links; again towards the south-east and towards the east by the boundary of Allotment 42 of the said parish, bearing 228° 38′ 30″ distance 988·6 links, bearing 180° distance 988·6 links; towards the south by the boundary of Allotments 97A and 117 of the said parish, bearing 270° 00′ distance 2,713·4 links; towards the west by the boundary of Allotment 117 aforementioned and the crossing of a public road, bearing 360° 00′ distance 454·1 links; again towards the south-east generally by a public road, bearing 226° 31′ distance 78 links, bearing 245° 37′ distance 514·2 links; towards the south-west by the boundary of Allotment 67 of the said parish bearing 330° 46′ distance 2,966 links, to the point of commencement; exclusive of a public road which intersects the above-described area. As the same is delineated on a plan marked L. and S. 9/1902, deposited in the Head Office, Department of Lands and Survey, at Wellington, and thereon edged red. Opening Lands in the North Auckland Land District for Selection on Renewable Lease.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred on me by the Land Act, 1924, I, General Sir Charles Fergusson, Baronet, Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby declare that the lands described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for selection on renewable lease on Monday, the twenty-fourth day of March, one thousand nine hundred and thirty, at the rentals mentioned in the said Schedule; and I also declare that the said lands shall be leased under and subject to the provisions of the said Act.

SCHEDULE.

NORTH AUCKLAND LAND DISTRICT.—SECOND-CLASS LAND.

Whangarei County.—Ruakaka Survey District.

(Exempt from payment of rent for a period of five years.)

Section 14, Block VII: Area, 76 acres 0 roods 20 perches. Capital value, £76. Half-yearly rent, £1 10s. 5d.

Section 15, Block VII: Area, 70 acres. Capital value, £70. Half-yearly rent, £1 8s.

Section 16, Block VII: Area, 105 acres 0 roods 33 perches. Capital value, £210. Half-yearly rent, £4 4s.

Section 18, Block VII: Area, 100 acres 1 rood 28 perches. Capital value, £100. Half-yearly rent, £2.

Section 19, Block VII: Area, 100 acres 3 roods 30 perches. Capital value, £101. Half-yearly rent, £2 0s. 5d.

Section 20, Block VII: Area, 106 acres 1 rood 35 perches. Capital value, £106. Half-yearly rent, £2 2s. 5d.

Section 21, Block VII: Area, 14 acres 0 roods 26 perches. Capital value, £14. Half-yearly rent, 5s. 7d.

These sections are offered free of rent for a period of five years subject to the condition that improvements of a permanent nature to double value of the remission are affected annually.

Sections are situated on One Tree Point Road, about one mile and three-quarters to three miles from One Tree Point Wharf. Access is from Oakleigh Railway-station, which is about thirteen and a quarter miles distant, by partly metalled road. The sections are all level to undulating land in rushes, fern, gorse, and tea-tree scrub, and, with one exception, are potholed.

Section 14: This is a level section, all in rushes, fern, and tea-tree scrub; about 20 acres potholed, balance fairly clear. Soil is of a black peaty loam resting on sandstone formation. Good drain on north-west end of section and three parts of eastern side, newly made by Government. Section is badly watered, but a supply can be obtained by sinking. Elevation ranges to about 25 ft. above sea-level.

Section 15: This section comprises level to slightly undulating country, all in fern, tea-tree scrub, and rushes; slightly potholed. Approximately 35 acres sandy soil and 35 acres black peaty loam resting on sandstone formation. Water can be obtained by sinking. Altitude, 25 ft. above sea-level.

Section 16: This section is all level country in fern and tea-tree scrub. Fairly clear of potholes with exception of 10 acres. Black peaty loam soil on sandstone formation. Water can be obtained by sinking. Altitude 25 ft. above sea-level.

Section 17: With the exception of 50 acres which is badly potholed this section comprises level country, all in fern, tea-tree scrub, and rushes, with a little gorse. Soil is partly black peaty loam with about 30 acres sandy soil. Water can be obtained by sinking. Altitude, 25 ft. above sea-level.

Section 18: Level section in tea-tree scrub, fern, and rushes, with a little gorse. Peat has been burnt off to a depth of about 18 in. Soil is black peaty loam on sandstone formation. Water can be found by sinking. Altitude up to 25 ft. above sea-level. There is a good drain on north-east corner of section.

Section 19: This is an all level section in tea-tree scrub, fern, rushes, and little gorse. On the eastern portion of the section the peat has been burnt off to a depth of about 18 in. There is a fair number of potholes on the section. Soil is black peaty loam on sandstone formation. Water can be obtained by sinking. Altitude, 25 ft. above sea-level.

Section 20: This section comprises all level land in tea-tree scrub, fern, rushes, and a little umbrella fern; gorse in evidence. There are two good drains on the property, one on the eastern boundary and one on the road frontage. The peat on the eastern portion has been burnt off to a depth of 18 in. Water can be obtained by sinking. Altitude, 25 ft. above sea-level.

NATIONAL-ENDOWMENT LAND.

Rodney County.—Arai Parish.

(Exempt from rent for three years.)

Allotment 7: Area, 95 acres. Capital value, £50. Half-yearly rent, £1.

Allotments 8 and 9: Area, 179 acres 0 roods 32·5 perches. Capital value, £110. Half-yearly rent, £2 4s.

Allotments 10, 11, and N.E. 12: Area, 291 acres 2 roods. Capital value, £175. Half-yearly rent, £3 10s.

Allotments N. 53 and 54: Area, 233 acres 1 rood 7 perches. Capital value, £140. Half-yearly rent, £2 16s.

The sections are offered free of rent for a period of three years on condition that permanent improvements are effected each year to double the value of the rent waived.

Sections are situated on the Mangawai–Tomarata Road, and are approximately six miles from Mangawai, four miles metalled road; balance bad clay road. Undulating land, mostly ploughable. Gorse in patches. No firewood or fencing material on sections, which are more or less badly potholed. Sections are poorly watered by swampy gullies.

Allotment 7: Altitude, 100 ft. to 250 ft. above sea-level. Open undulating country, covered with light tea-tree, fern, and gorse: All ploughable. Soil is of brown loam and pipe-clay resting on clay formation. Poorly watered by swampy gullies.
