THE following Notice to Mariners has been received from the Lighthouse Service, Commonwealth of Australia, and is published for general information.

COMMONWEALTH OF AUSTRALIA.—LIGHTHOUSE SERVICE.

NOTICE TO MARINERS.—1930, No. 8.

Astronomical positions are approximate unless seconds are given. Bearings are True and in degrees from 000° (North) to 359° measured clockwise, and those relating to lights are from seaward. Visibility of lights is that in clear weather. Fog signals are sounded only during thick or foggy weather. Elevation given is the height of focal plane above mean H.W. springs.

AUSTRALIA.—SOUTH COAST.—GULF OF ST. VINCENT.—TROUBRIDGE SHOALS.—ALTERATION OF LIGHT.

Mariners and others are hereby notified that on account of damage to the apparatus, the Flashing White Light on Troubridge Shoals is now exhibited at reduced power and signalling has been discontinued.

Previous Notice: No. 4 of 1930.

Position: On outer islet. Lat. 35° 07′ S., Long. 137° 50′ E., on Chart No. 2389.

Power: The power has been reduced from 25,000 candles to 4,000 candles.

Signals: The telephone has been discontinued and signals will not be reported.

Note: In other respects the light remains unaltered.

Notice to Mariners No. 54 of 1930.

NEW ZEALAND.—SOUTH ISLAND.—EAST COAST.—OTAGO HARBOUR.

Quarantine Island.—Blasting Operations.

Position: Lat. 45° 50′ S., Long. 170° 39′ E. (approx.).

Details: Mariners are warned that drilling and blasting operations are being carried out at the reef near the light on Quarantine Island, and to exercise every care when navigating in the vicinity. Further notice will be given when the operations are completed.

Notice to Mariners No. 55 of 1930.

NEW ZEALAND.—NORTH ISLAND.—HAURAKI GULF.—RIVER THAMES.

Alteration to: (1) Sewer Outfall Light; (2) Waihou Beacon Light.

(1) Sewer Outfall Light.

Position: Lat. 37° 08′ 19″ S. long. 175° 31′ 07″ E. Chart 1108, large corr., 1929.

Alteration: The blank sector has been removed.

Warning: The passage of small craft between the light and the shore is prohibited.

(2) Waihou River Beacon.

Position: Lat. 37° 09′ 14″ S., long. 175° 30′ 34″ E.

Abridged Description: Fl. ev. 15 sec., 14 ft., 5 m. (U).

Alteration: The period has been altered from flashing white every five seconds to flashing white every fifteen seconds, thus: Flash 0·5 sec., eclipse 14·5 sec.

CROWN LANDS NOTICES.

Lands in Wellington Land District for Selection on Renewable Lease.

District Lands and Survey Office,
Wellington, 15th December, 1930.

NOTICE is hereby given that the undermentioned sections are open for selection on renewable lease under the Discharged Soldiers Settlement Act, 1915, and the Land Act, 1924; and applications will be received at the District Lands and Survey Office, Wellington, up to 4 o’clock p.m. on Monday, 26th January, 1931.

Applicants must appear personally before the Land Board for examination at the District Lands and Survey Office, Wellington, on Wednesday, the 28th January, 1931, at 10 o’clock a.m., but if any applicant so desires he may be examined by the Land Board of any other district.

The ballot will be held immediately upon conclusion of examination of applicants.


SCHEDULE.

WELLINGTON LAND DISTRICT.—FIRST-CLASS LAND.

Lots 74 and 75 and part 91 of D.P. 762, Town of Rangiuru-by-the-Sea: Area, 10 acres 0 roods 38·8 perches. Capital value, £835. Half-yearly rental, £20 17s. 6d.

Weighted with the sum of £450 for buildings, repayable in twenty-one years by half-yearly payments of £17 11s. (including principal and interest). Total half-yearly payment on lease, £38 8s. 6d.

This property is situated within the Borough of Otaki, one mile from post-office and school, two miles from Otaki Railway-station, dairy factory, and saleyards, by good metalled road. Municipal water-supply. All flat land, with soil of excellent quality, subdivided into four paddocks. Four acres are in orchard; balance in pasture. This property is admirably suited to poultry farming, market-gardening, and dairying. Dwelling and outbuildings.

ABSTRACT OF CONDITIONS OF LEASE.

  1. Term of lease: Thirty-three years, with a perpetual right of renewal for further successive terms of thirty-three years.

  2. Rent: Five per cent. per annum on the capital value, payable on 1st January and 1st July in each year.

  3. Applicants to be seventeen years of age and upwards.

  4. Applicants to furnish statutory declaration with applications, and, on being declared successful, deposit £1 1s. (lease fee) and a half-year’s rent. Rent for the broken period between date of lease and 1st January or 1st July following is also payable.

  5. Applications made on the same day are deemed to be simultaneous.

  6. Order of selection is decided by ballot.

  7. Successful applicant to execute lease within thirty days after being notified that it is ready for signature.

  8. Residence is to commence within four years in bush land or swamp land, and within one year in open or partly open land, and to be continuous for ten years. Under certain conditions personal residence may be dispensed with.

  9. Improvements.—Lessee is required to improve the land within one year to the value of 10 per cent. of the price; within two years, to the value of another 10 per cent. of the price; and thereafter, but within six years, to the value of another 10 per cent. of the price. In addition to the foregoing, and within six years, improvements are also to be effected to the value of £1 for every acre of first-class land, 10s. for every acre of second-class land, and 2s. 6d. for every acre of third-class land.

  10. Lessee to pay all rates, taxes, and assessments.

  11. Transfer not allowed until completion of two years’ continuous residence, except under extraordinary circumstances, and then only with permission.

  12. Roads may be taken through the lands at any time within seven years; twice the original value to be allowed for area taken for such roads.

  13. Lease is liable to forfeiture if conditions are violated.
