THE following regulations made by the Pharmacy Board of New Zealand, having been approved by His Excellency the Governor-General, are published in accordance with the Pharmacy Act, 1908.

REGULATIONS.

WHEREAS by the Pharmacy Act, 1908 (No. 143), it is enacted that the Pharmacy Board of New Zealand may from time to time make regulations for the purpose of generally carrying the said Act into effect:

Now, therefore, it is declared that the following regulation shall come into effect upon the 1st day of August, 1930:—

PROXIES.

Any member of the Pharmacy Board of New Zealand who for any reason is unable to attend any ordinary meeting or any special meeting of the Board, of which due notice has been given, may, in writing under his hand, give notice to the President of his inability to attend, and may appoint any other member to act as his proxy at that meeting, and to vote on his behalf on any particular business of which due notice has been given; but no member may appoint another to act as his proxy in general terms, without specifying the particular business upon which he wishes his vote to be recorded.

Notice of the appointment of a proxy shall be in the form following:—

I, __, of __, being a member of the Pharmacy Board of New Zealand, hereby give notice that I am unable to attend the meeting of the Board to be held on __, and I appoint __ of __, being a member of the Board, to act as my proxy, and to vote on my behalf in favour of, or contrary to, the proposal [Here give details of the particular business] as stated in the agenda paper issued for that meeting.

DIRECTIONS.—Strike out the words “in favour of” or the words “contrary to.” The form, duly signed and completed, must be in the hands of the member appointed to act as proxy at least twelve hours before the opening of the meeting; and must be handed by him to the Registrar before the opening of the meeting.

Notice under the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22, and its Amendment, fixing the Closing-hours of (1) Hairdressers’ and (2) Tobacconists’ Shops within the Combined District of Invercargill.


WHEREAS a requisition in writing has been forwarded to me from the occupiers of shops in each of the trades of (1) hairdresser and (2) tobacconist within the Combined District of Invercargill, comprising the City of Invercargill and the Borough of South Invercargill, pursuant to section 32 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22:

Now, therefore, in pursuance of the said section 32, I, Sydney George Smith, Minister of Labour, do hereby direct that on and after the 1st day of September, 1930, all the shops in each of the said trades within the said combined district shall be closed in the evening of working-days as follows: On Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, at 6 p.m. and on Saturdays at 10.30 p.m., with the following exceptions—(1) On the working-day immediately preceding any of the following days—viz., Christmas day, New Year’s Day, and Good Friday, there shall be a fixed closing-hour; (2) should the occupier of any shop affected by this notice observe, pursuant to section 14 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22, Saturday as the statutory closing-day, then, and in such case, the closing-hour on Wednesday for any such shop shall be 6 p.m. and the closing-hour on Friday for any such shop shall be 10:30 p.m.:

And whereas the said requisition is signed by not less than two-thirds of the occupiers of tobacconists’ shops within the said combined district, notice is hereby given that, pursuant to section 25 of the Shops and Offices Amendment Act, 1927, all other shops within the said combined district in which smoking requisites are sold shall be closed at the same hours as are set out herein for tobacconists’ shops.

The notice gazetted on the 29th March, 1928, fixing the closing-hours of (1) hairdressers’ and (2) tobacconists’ shops within the Combined District of Invercargill shall be and is hereby cancelled as from the date of the coming into operation of this notice.

Notice under the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22, prohibiting the Sale within the City of Wellington of certain Goods comprised in the Trade of a Fruiterer.


WHEREAS a petition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the fruiterers’ shops within the City of Wellington, has been forwarded to me, desiring that the sale of certain goods comprised in the trade of a fruiterer—namely, fruit and vegetables—be prohibited during such time as the said shops are required to be closed in pursuance of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22:

And whereas I, Sydney George Smith, Minister of Labour, am satisfied that the sale of the said goods is comprised in the trade of a fruiterer within the said city, and that the signatures to such petition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the said shops within the said city:

Now, therefore, in pursuance of section 33 of the said Act, I do hereby direct that on and after the 25th day of August, 1930, the sale of the said goods within the City of Wellington shall be and is hereby prohibited as follows: During the months of April, May, June, July, August, and September in each year on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, after the hour of 8 p.m., with the following exception—On the evening preceding Good Friday and on the evening of the working-day immediately preceding Anzac Day and on the evening of the working-day immediately preceding the 3rd June the sale of the said goods is not prohibited.
