been appointed to be the Deputies of the Registrars of
Marriages and of Births and Deaths for the districts set
respectively opposite their names, viz.:—

THE Public Service Commissioner has made the following
appointments in the Public Service:
Leonard Garfield Goodacre
to be an Inspector for the purposes of the Factories Act,
1921–22, and an Inspector for the purposes of the Weights
and Measures Act, 1925, as from the 9th day of December,
1929.
Constable Arthur Douglas Percy Pearce
to be Clerk and Bailiff of the Magistrates' Court at Arrowtown
for the purposes of the Magistrates' Courts Act, 1928, and
Bailiff of the Warden's Court at Arrowtown for the Otago
District, constituted under the Mining Act, 1926, as from the
11th day of December, 1929.
Constable John O'Connell
to be Clerk and Bailiff of the Magistrates' Court at Clyde
for the purposes of the Magistrates' Courts Act, 1928, as from
the 13th day of December, 1929.
Sergeant James Herbert Armstrong
to be Bailiff of the Magistrates' Court at Balclutha for the
purposes of the Magistrates' Courts Act, 1928, as from the
16th day of December, 1929.
Constable John McMullan
to be Clerk and Bailiff of the Magistrates' Court at Kaikohe
for the purposes of the Magistrates' Courts Act, 1928, as from
the 2nd day of December, 1929.
Constable Alec Howard Barnes
to be Clerk and Bailiff of the Magistrates' Court at Port
Awanui for the purposes of the Magistrates' Courts Act, 1928,
as from the 17th December, 1929.
Lloyd Armstrong Robinson
to be Registrar of Marriages and Registrar of Births and
Deaths for the District of Whangamomona, as from the 29th
day of November, 1929.

Promotion in the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve (New Zealand
Division.)

HIS Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased
to approve of the following promotion in the Royal
Naval Volunteer Reserve (New Zealand Division):—
Lieutenant Hubert Alexander Rhind, to Acting Lieutenant-
Commander, R.N.V.R. (N.Z.D.), to date 16th December,
1929.

Appointments, Promotions, Resignations, and Transfers of
Officers of the N.Z. Military Forces.

HIS Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased
to approve of the appointments, promotions, resigna-
tions, and transfers of the undermentioned officers of the
N.Z. Military Forces :—
STAFF.
Lieut.-Colonel N. W. B. B. Thoms, D.S.O., M.C., N.Z. Staff
Corps, relinquishes the appointment of General Staff
Officer (1st Grade), Southern Command, dated 20th No-
vember, 1929, and left New Zealand on 29th November,
1929, to attend the Imperial Defence College.
Lieut.-Colonel R. B. Smythe, D.S.O., p.s.c., N.Z. Staff Corps,
relinquishes the appointment of Adjutant-General, General
Headquarters, dated 16th December, 1929, and is ap-
pointed General Staff Officer (1st Grade) Southern Command,
dated 17th December, 1929.
With reference to the notice published in the N.Z. Gazette,
No. 80, dated 28th November, 1929, relative to Lieutenant
E. Tingey, M.C., N.Z. Staff Corps, for the words “Area
Officer” substitute “Assistant Area Officer.”
With reference to the notice published in the N.Z. Gazette,
No. 48, dated 27th June, 1929, relative to Lieutenant G. H.
Heal, N.Z. Staff Corps, for the words “is appointed Area
Officer, Area 1A” substitute “is appointed Assistant Area
Officer, Area 1A.”
N.Z. STAFF CORPS.
Captain H. J. Redmond to be Major. Dated 1st January,
1930.

Ronald Frederick Haycock to be 2nd Lieutenant, and is

The Wellington Regiment.
