Appointing a Commission to inquire into Cases of Hardship arising from the Imposition of Special Land-tax.

To all to whom these presents shall come and to William Glendinning Riddell, Esquire, of Wellington, Gentleman; Donald George Clark, Esquire, of Wellington, Gentleman; and Albert Edward Fowler, Esquire, of Wellington, Gentleman. GREETING.
WHEREAS by section three of the Land and Income Tax Amendment Act, 1929, it is enacted that the Governor-General in Council may appoint a Commission under the Commissions of Inquiry Act, 1908, to inquire and report as to any cases of hardship that may arise from the imposition of special land-tax in accordance with section two of the Land and Income Tax Amendment Act, 1929:
And whereas it is expedient that such a Commission should be appointed forthwith:
Now, therefore, I, General Sir Charles Fergusson, Baronet, Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the Land and Income Tax Amendment Act, 1929, and by the Commissions of Inquiry Act, 1908, and of all other powers and authorities enabling me in this behalf, and acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said Dominion, do hereby appoint you, the said
William Glendinning Riddell,
Donald George Clark, and
Albert Edward Fowler,
to be a Commission to inquire and report as to any cases of hardship that may arise from the imposition of special land-tax in accordance with section two of the Land and Income Tax Amendment Act, 1929: And with the like advice and consent I do further appoint you the said
William Glendinning Riddell
to be Chairman of the said Commission:
And you are hereby authorized to conduct any inquiries under these presents at such times and places as you deem expedient, with power to adjourn from time to time and place to place as you think fit, and to call before you and examine on oath or otherwise such persons as you think capable of affording you information as to the matters aforesaid, and to call for and examine all such books, papers, plans, writings, documents, or records as you deem likely to afford you information on any such matter.
And, using all due diligence, you are required to report to me under your hand and seal not later than the twenty-first day of February, one thousand nine hundred and thirty, your recommendations in respect of cases of hardship arising out of the payment of or liability for special land-tax for the year commencing on the first day of April, one thousand nine hundred and twenty-nine.
And you are hereby strictly charged and directed that you shall not at any time publish or otherwise disclose, save to me in pursuance of these presents, or by my direction, the contents or purport of any report so made or to be made by you.
And it is hereby declared that these presents shall continue in force although the inquiry is not regularly continued or adjourned from time to time or from place to place.
And, lastly, it is hereby further declared that these presents are issued under and subject to the provisions of the Commissions of Inquiry Act, 1908, and section three of the Land and Income Tax Amendment Act, 1929.
Given under the hand of His Excellency the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, and issued under the Seal of that Dominion, this 5th day of December, 1929.

THE following claim for registration of school colours has been received in accordance with the regulations published in the New Zealand Gazette of the 12th August, 1915. The claim will be registered unless objection is received by me within forty days of the publication hereof.

Hat—For winter wear: Navy blue with school badge described in paragraph (1) below on front.
Hat Bands—
For general wear—A navy blue band 2 in. wide with a gold horizontal stripe 3½ in. wide running ⅜ in. from each of the upper and lower edges of the band.
For summer wear: A white band 2 in. wide with a gold horizontal stripe 3½ in. wide running ⅜ in. from each of the upper and lower edges of the band, and a navy blue horizontal stripe ⅛ in. wide running between the two gold stripes.
Badges—
(1) To be worn on hats or clothing. A lune-shaped device with axis vertical bearing a dove with out-stretched wings, three spots at the apex, and the words “Columba College” on the band bounding the lune—the whole being worked in gold on a navy blue or on a white ground.
(2) A lune-shaped device with axis vertical bearing a dove with outstretched wings, three spots at the apex, and the motto “Gratia Et Disciplina Bona” on the band bounding the lune, the whole being executed in silver, silver gilt, or gold, or embellished with dark blue enamel, as may be desired.

Rock reported to exist.
Position: Lat. 40° 43½′ S., long. 173° 54½′ E. (approx.).
Details: A submerged rock, having a depth of 10 ft. of water over it, is reported to exist in an almost direct line from Nile Head to Cape Stephens; and with Nelson’s Monument in line with cliff just south of Fleet Rocks, and Nile Head in line with Bottle Point.
