Child Welfare Amendment Act, 1927.

IN pursuance of the power vested in me by section 6, subsection (1), of the Child Welfare Amendment Act, 1927, I, Harry Atmore, Minister of Education, do hereby notify that the premises set forth in the Schedule below have been registered as from the date hereof as Children’s Homes for the purposes of the said Act.

St. Mary’s Orphanage, Mornington, Dunedin.
Salvation Army Maternity Home, 33 Dryden Street, Grey Lynn, Auckland.

Election of Member of Auckland Land Board.

IN accordance with the provisions of section 47 of the Land Act, 1924, and the regulations made thereunder, I, Kenneth Montrose Graham, Commissioner of Crown Lands and Returning Officer for the election of a member of the Auckland Land Board, do hereby give notice that the following person has been nominated :—

Hayward, William George, of Ngatea.

And I do hereby declare that the same William George Hayward is duly elected a member of the Auckland Land Board, as from the 3rd day of April, 1929.

ADMIRALTY NOTICE TO MARINERS No. 1997 OF 1928.

SOUTH PACIFIC OCEAN.—SAMOA ISLANDS.

Apolina Strait : Information re Width.

Position on Chart : Apolina Island. Lat. 13° 49′ S., long. 172° 09′ W. (approximately).

Details : The following cautionary note is to be substituted for that shown on the chart to the southward of Apolina Strait.

CAUTION.

“ According to various reports the S.E. coast of Savaii I. should be 1½ to 2 miles further N. Wᵈ. from Apolina I., increasing the width of Apolina Strait to 3½ to 4 miles. (1928.) ”

Remarks : The note “ Foul ” is to be inserted on the chart between Apolina and Manono Islands.

ADMIRALTY NOTICE TO MARINERS No. 2011 OF 1928.

SOUTH PACIFIC OCEAN.—FIJI ISLANDS, VITI LEVU.

Nasilai Reef : Existence of Wreck.

Position : On the reef and at a distance of 2·45 miles 250° from Nasilai light. Lat, 18° 09′ S., long. 178° 40′ E. (approximately).

Description : Stranded wreck (1927) of the schooner “ Greyhound ” to be marked “ (Conspic.) ” on the charts.

Charts affected : Nos. 167—905—2691.

Notice to Mariners No. 6 of 1929.

NEW ZEALAND.—NORTH ISLAND.—WEST COAST.—MANUKAU HARBOUR.

South Head Light : Intended Alteration from Fixed to Flashing.

PRELIMINARY NOTICE.

Position : On the brow of South Head bluff. Lat 37° 05′ S., long. 174° 32′ E. (approx.).

Date of intended alteration : On or about 5th March, 1929.

Details : The existing fixed light will be changed to Unwatched, group-flashing, showing two flashes every thirty seconds, thus—flash, one second ; eclipse, one second ; flash, one second ; eclipse, twenty-seven seconds.

Visibility : 18 miles.

Remarks : Further notice will be issued.

Special Order made by the Makara County Council altering Riding Boundaries and Adjusting Representation.

THE following special order, made by the Makara County Council, is published in accordance with the provisions of the Counties Act, 1920.

Pursuant to section 100 of that Act, as amended by section 3 of the Counties Amendment Act, 1921–22, I hereby fix the 31st day of March, 1929, as the date from which the special order shall take effect.

MAKARA COUNTY COUNCIL.


Special Meeting of the Makara County Council, held in the Council Chambers, 57 Ballance Street, Wellington, on Friday, 14th September, 1928.

COUNCIL.

Present : Councillors E. Windley (Chairman), L. C. Bryant, M. S. G. Monk, Dunbar Sloane, and R. W. Bothamley.

SPECIAL MEETING.

This special meeting was resolved on the motion of Councillors Windley and Bryant.

DIVISION OF PORIRUA RIDING.

Councillor Windley moved and Councillor Sloane seconded, “ That, in pursuance and exercise of the powers conferred on it by the Counties Act, 1920, the Makara County Council hereby resolves by way of special order as follows :—

  1. The present division of the County of Makara into two ridings is revoked, and in lieu thereof the said county shall be divided into seven ridings, to be called respectively :—

Belmont Riding.
Porirua Riding.
Tawa Riding.
Titahi Riding.
Ngahauranga Riding.
Ohariu Riding.
Makara Riding.

  1. The said Ridings are respectively described in the Schedule hereto.
