conferred on him by the said Act, and of all other powers and authorities enabling him in this behalf, doth hereby consent to the raising by the said local authority of the said loan up to the amount of three thousand five hundred pounds for a term not exceeding twenty-six years, at such rate or rates of interest as shall not produce to the lenders a rate exceeding the rate of five pounds ten shillings per centum per annum, subject to the condition that the said local authority shall, before borrowing the said sum or any part thereof, make provision for the repayment thereof by establishing a sinking fund under the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1926, and shall thereafter make to such sinking fund payments at intervals of not more than one year at a rate or rates which shall be not less than the rate of two pounds per centum, such payments to be made in respect of every part of the said sum for the time being so borrowed and not repaid, and the first payment to be made not later than one year after the first day from which interest to the lender is computed on any moneys so borrowed, and subject to the further condition that no portion of interest or sinking fund shall be paid out of loan-moneys.

Order in Council consenting to the Raising of a Loan of £9,621 by the Waikato County Council.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.

At the Government House at Wellington, this 19th day of October, 1929.

Present:

HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL IN COUNCIL.

WHEREAS the Waikato County Council (hereinafter called “the said local authority”) proposes to borrow, in accordance with the provisions of section three of the Main Highways Amendment Act, 1928, the sum of nine thousand six hundred and twenty-one pounds by a loan to be known as “Auckland–Wellington Main Highway Loan, 1929,” for the purpose of providing its proportion of the cost of reconstructing and surfacing that portion of the Auckland–Wellington via Taranaki Main Highway between Ohinewai and Ngaruawahia, and reconstructing the Kimihia Bridge :

Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said Dominion, and in pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred on him by the Local Government Loans Board Act, 1926, and of all other powers and authorities enabling him in this behalf, doth hereby consent to the raising by the said local authority of the sum of nine thousand six hundred and twenty-one pounds at such rate or rates of interest as shall not produce to the lenders a rate exceeding the rate of five pounds ten shillings per centum per annum, upon terms of making the said sum, together with interest thereon, repayable by instalments extending over a period of ten years.

Rates of Duty on Opal Glass Bottles.—(C. No. 66.)

ORDER IN COUNCIL.

At the Government House at Wellington, this 19th day of October, 1929.

Present:

HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL IN COUNCIL.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon him by section one hundred and thirty-five of the Customs Act, 1913, and of all other powers and authorities enabling him in that behalf, His Excellency the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said Dominion, doth hereby declare that empty plain opal glass bottles, not being cut or ground, being goods which are not specifically enumerated in the Tariff and which are, in the opinion of the Minister of Customs, substitutes for empty plain opal glass jars, not being cut or ground, shall be free of duty if admissible under the British Preferential Tariff, and shall, if not so admissible, be charged with duty at the rate of twenty per centum ad valorem under the General Tariff: Provided that nothing in this Order shall affect the provisions of section fifteen of the Customs Amendment Act, 1921, in respect of primage duty.

HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL IN COUNCIL.

IN pursuance and exercise of the power and authority conferred upon him by the Post and Telegraph Act, 1928, and of all other powers and authorities enabling him in that behalf, His Excellency the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said Dominion, doth hereby fix the charges set forth in the Schedule hereto for the despatch of parcels by post to the United States of America; and doth order and declare that any charges of similar purport heretofore made are hereby revoked, and doth further order and declare that the charges hereby fixed shall take effect on and after the 1st November, 1929.
