The total live births registered for the urban areas amounted to 1,056 as against 1,074 in August, a decrease of 18. The deaths in September were 616—a decrease of 96 as compared with the previous month. Of the total deaths males contributed 349, females 267. Fifty-eight of the deaths were of children under five years of age, being 9·42 per cent. of the whole number. Forty-three of these were under one year of age.

The equivalent annual rates per 1,000 of mean population for September, 1929, and nine months ended September, 1929, were as follows. The infant-mortality and still birth rates per 100 births for the same period are also given.
