The above resolution was duly passed at a meeting of the Waikato County Council held at Hamilton, on Tuesday, the 10th day of September, 1929.

RESOLUTION.

THE following regulations were laid before the members of the Waipawa County Racing Club, at a meeting held on the 21st day of August, 1929, at Waipawa, with a recommendation by the Chairman of such club, Mr. W. J. Wood, that the same be passed at once with a view to their approval by His Excellency the Governor-General in pursuance of the Gaming Act, 1908, section 33.

Mr. W. J. Wood, the Chairman of such club and the meeting, moved, and Mr. T. W. Wills seconded, and it was resolved, that such regulations should be adopted, and that the Chairman and Secretary be authorized to sign the same in authentication thereof.

The following are the regulations referred to:—

THE WAIPAWA COUNTY RACING CLUB.

REGULATIONS.

(Under the Gaming Act, 1908.)

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers in that behalf contained in section 33 of the Gaming Act, 1908, and of all other powers and authorities it enabling in that behalf, the Waipawa County Racing Club, a racing club within the meaning of the said Act (hereinafter referred to as “the said club”) doth hereby make the following regulations controlling the admission of persons to that part of the course, situated in the district of Hawke’s Bay, and known as the Waipukurau Jockey Club’s Racecourse, while the said racecourse is used or occupied by the said club for race meetings.

  1. These regulations shall come into force on the date of the same being published in the New Zealand Gazette.

  2. In these regulations the words “bookmaker,” “racing club,” and “race meeting” shall have the meanings ascribed to those terms respectively by section 2 of the Gaming Act, 1908.

  3. The following persons shall be and are hereby excluded from the racecourse above described while the same is used or occupied by the said club for a race meeting, namely:—

(a) Bookmakers.

(b) Bookmakers’ clerks, bookmakers’ assistants, and bookmakers’ agents.

(c) All persons under disqualification inflicted by any racing or trotting club in the Dominion of New Zealand, the Commonwealth of Australia, or elsewhere if affiliated to the New Zealand Racing Conference, or the New Zealand Trotting Conference, or the New Zealand Trotting Association.

(d) Common prostitutes and persons who habitually consort with thieves or persons who have no lawful visible means of support.

(e) Professional tipsters, persons convicted of housebreaking or pocket-picking, forgery, uttering or possessing counterfeit coin, theft, false pretences, receiving stolen goods, mischief, assault, or any offence or crime of any kind under the Crimes Act, 1908, and also idle and disorderly persons, rogues, and vagabonds, and incorrigible rogues convicted under the Police Offences Act, 1908, and persons convicted of an offence under the Gaming Act, 1908.

Provided always that the Executive Committee appointed by the New Zealand Racing Conference, upon being satisfied by evidence as to character and otherwise that any person who, by reason of any conviction, comes within the scope of this regulation, should have relief from the effect thereof, may grant exemption to any such person, and may at any time revoke any such exemption without notice to such person, and without assigning any reason for such revocation.

The foregoing regulations of the Waipawa County Racing Club were made and passed by such club on the 21st day of August, 1929, and signed by the Chairman and Secretary.

NOTICE OF CHANGE OF CHRISTIAN NAME.

I, HAROLD MAUGHAM MAUGHAM, of Maungatapere, in the Provincial District of Auckland, in the Dominion of New Zealand, Farmer, being desirous of altering my Christian name by eliminating the word “Maugham” therefrom, and being also desirous of being called and known by the name of HAROLD MAUGHAM, hereby give public notice that on the 14th day of September, 1929, I formally and absolutely renounced, relinquished, and abandoned the use of my said Christian name of “Maugham,” and then assumed and adopted, and determined thenceforth on all occasions whatsoever to use and subscribe the name of “Harold Maugham,” instead of the said name of “Harold Maugham Maugham.” And I give further notice that by deed poll dated the 14th day of September, 1929, duly executed and attested (a copy of which has been filed in the Supreme Court of New Zealand at Auckland), I formally and absolutely renounced and abandoned the said Christian name of “Maugham,” and declared that I had assumed and adopted, and intended thenceforth upon all occasions whatsoever to use the name of “Harold Maugham” instead of “Harold Maugham Maugham,” so as to be at all times thereafter called, known, and described by the name of “Harold Maugham” exclusively.

DISSOLUTION OF PARTNERSHIP.

NOTICE is hereby given that the Partnership heretofore existing between JAMES DONALD, of Auckland, Fellmonger, and JOHN ALBERT ENDEAN, late of Auckland, Hotelkeeper (deceased), in connection with the business of Farmers under the style of “Endean and Donald,” has been dissolved by mutual consent as from the 1st day of July, 1928.

Mr. James Donald will continue to carry on the business in his own name, and will receive all moneys due to and pay all debts owing by the said firm of “Endean and Donald.”

MOUNT ROSKILL ROAD DISTRICT.

NOTICE OF RESULT OF POLL ON PROPOSAL TO RAISE A LOAN.

PURSUANT to section 13 of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1926, I hereby give notice that at a poll of the ratepayers of the Mount Roskill Road District, taken on Saturday, the 31st day of August, 1929, on the proposal of the Mount Roskill Road Board to borrow the sum of £66,700 for the purpose of the permanent construction of Mount Albert — Royal Oak Main Highway and Three Kings Road with concrete slabs to both sides of the roads and bituminous pathways, the number of votes recorded for the proposal was 409; the number of votes recorded against the proposal was 398; informal, 10.

I therefore declare that the proposal was lost.
