Rangitaiki Land Drainage.—Notice of Intention to make and levy Rates.
Department of Lands and Survey,
Wellington, 13th August, 1929.
NOTICE is hereby given that it is intended, pursuant to the Rangitaiki Land Drainage Act, 1910, and its amendments, to make and levy a rate to meet maintenance costs for the period from the 1st April, 1929, to the 31st March, 1930, on the unimproved value of all land within the district constituted under the said Act.
The amount of such rate shall be payable in one sum on the 3rd day of September, 1929.
The valuation roll of the district is open for inspection at the office of the Collector of Rates, Chief Drainage Engineer’s Office, 5 Law Court Buildings, High Street, Auckland, and a copy of the same may be inspected at the office of the Chief Drainage Engineer at Thornton, near Whakatane, at all times at which those offices are open for the transaction of business.

The amount of such rates shall be payable in one sum on the 3rd day of September, 1929.

Plants declared to be Noxious Weeds in the Borough of Picton.—(Notice No. Ag. 2845.)

THE following special order, made by the Picton Borough Council on the 11th day of July, 1929, is published in accordance with the provisions of the Noxious Weeds Act, 1928.

SPECIAL ORDER DECLARING NOXIOUS WEEDS WITHIN THE BOROUGH OF PICTON.
At a special meeting of the Council held on the 30th day of May, 1929, called for the purpose of passing a resolution declaring the following plants to be noxious weeds within the Borough of Picton.
Resolution: “That the following plants be declared noxious weeds under the Noxious Weeds Act, 1928, viz.:—
Broom (Cytisus scoparius).
Fennel (Foeniculum vulgare).
St. John’s Wort (Hypericum perforatum or H. Humifusum).”
The above resolution was submitted and confirmed at the Council meeting held on the 11th day of July, to come into force on the 1st day of September, 1929.
Child Welfare Amendment Act, 1927.
IN pursuance of the power vested in me by section 6, subsection (1), of the Child Welfare Amendment Act, 1927, I, Harry Atmore, Minister of Education, do hereby notify that the premises set forth in the Schedule below have been registered as from the date hereof as a Children’s Home for the purposes of the said Act.

Notice under the Shops and Offices Act, 1921-22, and its Amendment, fixing the Closing-hours of Grocers’ Shops within the Borough of Feilding.
WHEREAS a requisition in writing has been forwarded to me from the occupiers of grocers’ shops within the Borough of Feilding, pursuant to section 32 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921-22 :
And whereas I, William Andrew Veitch, Minister of Labour, am satisfied that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the said shops within the said borough :
Now, therefore, in pursuance of the said section 32, I do hereby direct that on and after the 9th day of September, 1929, all the said shops within the said borough shall be closed in the evening of working-days as follows: On Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays at 5.30 p.m., and on Saturdays at 9 p.m., with the following exception—Should the occupier of any shop affected by this notice observe, pursuant to section 14 (2) of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921-22, Saturday as the statutory closing-day, then and in such case the closing-hour on Wednesday shall be 5.30 p.m. and the closing-hour on Friday shall be 9 p.m.
The notice dated the 6th July, 1928, and published in the New Zealand Gazette of the 12th July, 1928, fixing the closing-hours of grocers’ shops within the Borough of Feilding shall be and is hereby cancelled as from the date of the coming into operation of this notice.

Heavy Breakers reported off.
Customs House, Suva, 22nd July, 1929.
Information has been received from the Wireless Office, Nukualofa, that the Master, s.s. “Clan McWhirter,” reports having observed occasional heavy breakers in latitude 19° 40′ 12″ S., longitude 174° 30′ 24″ W., 1·7 miles 203° from Moun gaone Island.

Temporary Light established.—Arc of Visibility defined.—Length of Flash amended.
Previous Notice: Wellington notice No. 37 of 1929.
Position: Lat. 40° 46′ S., long. 172° 13′ E. (approx.).
Date of Establishment: 31st July, 1929.
Details: The arc of visibility of the temporary light is from 048°, through east to 228°. The length of flash has been increased to one second, and the eclipse decreased to seven seconds.
