Appointments in the Public Service.
Office of the Public Service Commissioner,

THE Public Service Commissioner has made the following appointments in the Public Service:—
Frank Bird
to be Local Patent Officer at Oamaru for the purposes of the section 15 of the Patents, Designs, and Trade-marks Act, 1921-22, Clerk of the Warden’s Court, Receiver of Gold Revenue and Mining Registrar, at Oamaru, for the District of Otago, constituted under the Mining Act, 1926, and Clerk of the Magistrates’ Court at Oamaru, for the purposes of the Magistrates’ Courts Act, 1928; Registrar of Marriages and Registrar of Births and Deaths for the District of Oamaru; and Registrar of Electors and Returning Officer for the Electoral District of Oamaru for the purposes of the Electoral Act, 1927, as from the 11th day of July, 1929.
Ronald Graham Looker
to be Registrar of Marriages and Registrar of Births and Deaths for the District of Maungaturoto, as from the 15th day of July, 1929.
Ernest Edward Hirst
to be Registrar of Marriages and of Births and Deaths for the District of Bulls, and Registrar of Births and Deaths of Maoris at Bulls, as from the 10th day of July, 1929.
Charles Blackburn,
to be the Deputy of the Official Assignee for the Gisborne District in the management of the following bankruptcy estates within the jurisdiction of the Supreme Court—to wit, those of T. Stevens, C. L. Fergusson, J. Bullard, and F. Pattullo; to exercise such duties as from the 1st day of July, 1929.
John Moultrie Ferriday,
to be an Inspector for the purposes of the Dairy Industry Act, 1908, as from the 18th day of July, 1929.
William George Bonner, and
James Henderson Sutherland,
to be Inspectors for the purposes of the Rabbit Nuisance Act, 1928, and the Noxious Weeds Act, 1928, as from the 18th day of July, 1929.
Charles Malcolm Renaut,
to be an Inspector of Sea-fishing for the purposes of the Fisheries Act, 1908, as from the 18th day of July, 1929.

HIS Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased to approve of the appointments, promotions, resignations, and transfers of the undermentioned officers of the N.Z. Military Forces.
ROYAL N.Z. ARTILLERY.
Lieutenant I. R. Withell to be Captain. Dated 25th March, 1929.
COMMANDS.
Lieutenant-Colonel C. N. Newman, D.S.O., relinquishes command of the Northern Field Artillery Group, which he has held since 1st September, 1926, but retains the appointment of Commander, 1st Field Brigade. Dated 31st May, 1929.
Lieutenant-Colonel H. C. Hurst, D.S.O., v.d., the Canterbury Yeomanry Cavalry, relinquishes command of the regiment, dated 31st May, 1929, and is appointed to command the 3rd N.Z. Mounted Rifles Brigade, with the rank of Colonel. Dated 1st June, 1929.
Major F. Gorton, the Canterbury Yeomanry Cavalry, is appointed to command the regiment. Dated 1st June, 1929.
THE NORTH AUCKLAND MOUNTED RIFLES.
The undermentioned Captains to be Majors. Dated 27th June, 1929:—

THE WAIKATO MOUNTED RIFLES.
Captain R. Simpson is transferred to the Reserve of Officers, Class II (b), R.D. 4. Dated 23rd June, 1929.
Lieutenant and Quartermaster W. J. Foster to be Captain and Quartermaster. Dated 27th June, 1929.
THE MANAWATU MOUNTED RIFLES.
The undermentioned Lieutenants to be Captains:—
S. H. Lodge. Dated 7th May, 1929.
S. C. W. Watkins. Dated 17th June, 1929.
THE REGIMENT OF N.Z. ARTILLERY.
The undermentioned are transferred to the Reserve of Officers, Class I (b), R.D. 10.
Major A. A. McLean, 10th Field Battery. Dated 10th July, 1929.
Captain L. F. N. Ward, 16th Pack Battery. Dated 2nd July, 1929.
Lieutenant H. E. Otley, 9th Field Battery. Dated 11th July, 1929.
Lieutenant A. E. Ekstedt, 7th Field Battery, is transferred to the Reserve of Officers, Class II (b), R.D. 6. Dated 29th June, 1929.
Captain C. Woods, 8th Field Battery, is posted to the Retired List, with permission to retain his rank and wear the prescribed uniform. Dated 29th June, 1929.
N.Z. CORPS OF SIGNALS.
2nd Lieutenant E. L. J. Marshall is transferred from the Northern Depot to the Central Depot, with seniority as from the 28th January, 1929. Dated 4th July, 1929.
THE N.Z. INFANTRY.
The Auckland Regiment (Countess of Ranfurly’s Own).
Captain J. L. Cameron, 5th C Battalion, to be Major. Dated 20th June, 1929.
Major J. L. Cameron, 5th C Battalion, is transferred to the Hauraki Regiment. Dated 21st June, 1929.
Lieutenant N. S. Cassrels, 4th C Battalion, is transferred to the Reserve of Officers, Class I (b), R.D. 1. Dated 10th July, 1929.
The undermentioned are transferred to the Canterbury Regiment. Dated 8th July, 1929:—
2nd Lieutenant (on probation) S. Black.
2nd Lieutenant A. G. Simmers.
The undermentioned cease to be posted to the 1st Battalion, and are posted to the 2nd C Battalion. Dated 7th July, 1929.
2nd Lieutenant A. D. W. Woolcott.
2nd Lieutenant G. L. Mather.
Arthur Ballard Thompson to be 2nd Lieutenant (on probation), and is posted to the 4th C Battalion. Dated 2nd February, 1929.
The Hauraki Regiment.
Major F. Prideaux, 1st Battalion, to be Lieutenant-Colonel. Dated 29th June, 1929.
Major J. L. Cameron, from the Auckland Regiment (Countess of Ranfurly’s Own), to be Major, with seniority as from the 20th June, 1929, and is posted to the 2nd C Battalion. Dated 21st June, 1929.
The Waikato Regiment.
Captain W. W. Horwell, M.M., from the Canterbury Regiment, to be Captain, with seniority as from the 19th December, 1925, and is posted to the 1st Battalion. Dated 22nd June, 1929.
The Wellington Regiment.
The notice published in the N.Z. Gazette, No. 4, of 21st January, 1926, relating to Captain D. C. Armstrong, M.C., is amended by substituting the date 20th August, 1925, for 17th November, 1925.
