The north-western side of the portion of Rotherham Street, in the said land district and city, adjoining Lots 18A, 17B, 17C, and 17D, deeds plan 145, being parts of Section 22, Right Bank, Wanganui River.

As the said portions of streets are more particularly delineated on the plan marked P.W.D. 74678, deposited in the office of the Minister of Public Works at Wellington, and thereon edged blue.

Authorizing the Laying-off of Streets in the City of Wellington of a Width of less than 66 ft. but not less than 40 ft., subject to Conditions as to the Building-line.

At the Government House at Wellington, this 3rd day of April, 1929.

HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL IN COUNCIL.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers vested in him by the Municipal Corporations Act, 1920, the Public Works Act, 1928, and of all other powers in anywise enabling him in this behalf, His Excellency the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said Dominion, doth hereby authorize the Wellington City Council to permit the laying-off of the proposed streets, described in the Schedule hereto, of a width of less than sixty-six feet, but not less than forty feet, subject to the condition that no building or part of a building shall at any time be erected on the land fronting Cavendish Square and the portion of Bentinck Avenue extending from Broadway to Cavendish Square on its eastern side, and from Broadway to the southern boundary of Lot 198 on its western side, within a distance of forty feet from the centre-line of the said street and portion of street, nor on the land fronting Glamis Avenue, Elphinstone Avenue, Streatlam Crescent, and the portion of Bentinck Avenue adjoining Lots 276, 277, and Lots 199 to 202 inclusive, as shown on the plan mentioned in the Schedule hereto, within a distance of thirty-three feet from the centre-line of the said streets and portion of street.

SCHEDULE.

THOSE proposed streets in the Wellington Land District, City of Wellington, to be known as Cavendish Square, Bentinck Avenue, Glamis Avenue, Streatlam Crescent, and Elphinstone Avenue, containing by admeasurement 4 acres 0 roods 22·65 perches, being portions of Lots 1 and 2, D.P. 4465. As the same are more particularly delineated on the plan marked P.W.D. 74351, deposited in the office of the Minister of Public Works at Wellington, and thereon coloured red.

Additional Regulations under the Motor-vehicles Act, 1924, as to the Erection of Compulsory-stop Signs.

HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL IN COUNCIL.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers conferred on him by the Motor-vehicles Act, 1924, His Excellency the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said Dominion, doth hereby make the following regulations, additional to the Motor-vehicle Regulations, 1928, and the Motor-vehicle (Supplementary) Regulations, 1928.

REGULATIONS.

REGULATION 1.—PRELIMINARY.

(1) THESE regulations may be cited as the Motor-vehicle (Additional) Regulations, 1929.

(2) These regulations shall be read together with and form part of the Motor-vehicle Regulations, 1928 (hereinafter referred to as “the principal regulations”), and the Motor-vehicle (Supplementary) Regulations, 1928.

REGULATION 2.—“COMPULSORY-STOP” SIGNS.

(1) Regulation 14 of the principal regulations is hereby amended by revoking paragraph (d) of clause (2) thereof and the proviso following the said paragraph (d).

(2) Regulation 14 of the principal regulations is hereby further amended by inserting, following clause (2) thereof (as hereby amended), the following additional clause:—

“(2A) Every driver of a motor-vehicle shall stop his vehicle opposite (or as nearly as may be opposite) to any traffic-sign of Class F erected pursuant to Regulation 16 hereof, and after the vehicle is so stopped shall not cause it again to move until it is reasonably apparent that its moving will produce no danger to the vehicle, its occupants, or any other traffic:

“Provided that compliance with the requirements of this clause shall not relieve any person from the duty of compliance with the requirements of section 9 of the Government Railways Amendment Act, 1928, in a case where such traffic-sign is erected at any railway-crossing.”

(3) Clause (1) of Regulation 16 of the principal regulations is hereby amended by inserting therein between the paragraph commencing with the words “Class E” and the proviso following that paragraph, the following additional paragraph:—

“CLASS F: COMPULSORY-STOP SIGNS.”

(4) Regulation 16 of the principal regulations is hereby further amended by inserting therein following clause (6) thereof the following additional clause:—

“(6A) Signs of Class F shall be in the form of diagram No. 7 in the said Second Schedule—that is to say, in the form of a regular hexagon, each side of which is approximately 10 in. long, and two sides of which are horizontal, which is coloured yellow, and which bears the words “Compulsory Stop” in black letters, and the black lines (each of a width of approximately three-eighths of an inch) indicated in the said diagram No. 7.”

(5) Regulation 16 of the principal regulations is hereby further amended by adding to clause (7) thereof the following words: “and save that in signs of Class F the letters of the word ‘Compulsory’ shall be of a height of approximately 1½ in. and the letters of the word ‘Stop’ shall be of a height of approximately 6 in.”

(6) Regulation 16 of the principal regulations is hereby further amended by inserting therein following clause (12) thereof the following additional clause:—

“(12A) Every local authority may erect a traffic sign of Class F at any place at which, in its opinion, it is desirable that every driver of a motor-vehicle should stop his vehicle.”

(7) The Second Schedule to the principal regulations is hereby amended by adding thereto the following:—

“CLASS F.

“Diagram No. 7.
