HIS Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased to approve of the following promotions in the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve (New Zealand Division):—

Lieutenant Claude Hilton Kersley, to Acting Lieutenant-Commander, R.N.V.R. (N.Z.D.), to date 16th March, 1929.

Lieutenant Arthur Bruce Welch, to Acting Lieutenant-Commander, R.N.V.R. (N.Z.D.), to date 16th March, 1929.

Appointments, Promotions, Resignations, and Transfers of Officers of the N.Z. Military Forces.

HIS Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased to approve of the appointments, promotions, resignations, and transfers of the undermentioned officers of the N.Z. Military Forces:—

STAFF.

Major W. G. Stevens, Royal N.Z. Artillery, p.s.c., having returned to the Dominion after completion of a tour of instruction in England, ceases to be seconded (dated 11th March, 1929), and is appointed Officer Commanding, Royal N.Z. Artillery, Central Command, Palmerston North (dated 12th March, 1929).

N.Z. ARMY ORDNANCE CORPS.

Captain W. M. Bell, from the Reserve of Officers, to be Captain, with seniority as from the 1st August, 1919, and to be supernumerary to establishment. Dated 15th March, 1929.

THE CANTERBURY YEOMANRY CAVALRY.

Lieutenant M. W. P. Blathwayt (Retired List) to be Lieutenant, with seniority as from the 12th January, 1927. Dated 12th March, 1929.

QUEEN ALEXANDRA'S (WELLINGTON WEST COAST) MOUNTED RIFLES.

Captain W. N. W. Leech is transferred to the Reserve of Officers, Class I (b) R.D. 8. Dated 15th March, 1929.

THE WELLINGTON EAST COAST MOUNTED RIFLES.

Lieutenant G. S. Wilson to be Captain. Dated 14th September, 1928.

THE NELSON-MARLBOROUGH MOUNTED RIFLES.

Lieutenant A. T. Orchard is retired. Dated 28th December, 1928.

THE REGIMENT OF N.Z. ARTILLERY.

The notice published in the New Zealand Gazette No. 8, of 14th February, 1928, relating to 2nd Lieutenant (on probation) O. G. Cox is cancelled, and the following substituted:—

“Oliver Gordon Cox to be 2nd Lieutenant (on probation), and is posted to the Southern Artillery Group for duty with the Artillery Section, Otago Boys' High School Cadets. Dated 20th December, 1928.”

THE N.Z. INFANTRY.

The Auckland Regiment (Countess of Ranfurly's Own).

2nd Lieutenant H. C. Sidford ceases to be posted to 6th C Battalion, and is posted to the 1st Battalion. Dated 9th March, 1929.

The North Auckland Regiment.

Major A. H. Wright, from the Hawke’s Bay Regiment, to be Major, 1st Battalion, with seniority as from the 20th August, 1925. Dated 5th March, 1929.

Lieutenant H. S. Bannister (1st Battalion) is transferred to the Reserve of Officers, Class II (b) R.D. I. Dated 9th March, 1929.

2nd Lieutenant M. de R. Petrie (1st Battalion) to be Lieutenant. Dated 21st November, 1928.

The Wellington West Coast Regiment.

Captain F. S. Varnham, M.C. (1st Battalion), is transferred to the Taranaki Regiment. Dated 9th March, 1929.

The undermentioned 2nd Lieutenants cease to be posted to the 1st Battalion and are posted to the 2nd C Battalion. Dated 15th February, 1929.

E. W. Woodhouse, from the 4th C Battalion, is transferred to the 2nd C Battalion. Dated 15th March, 1929.

The Hawke’s Bay Regiment.

Major A. H. Wright (1st Battalion) is transferred to the North Auckland Regiment. Dated 5th March, 1929.

2nd Lieutenant J. J. Sythes (1st Battalion) to be Lieutenant. Dated 5th September, 1928.

The undermentioned to be 2nd Lieutenants, 1st Battalion. Dated 14th September, 1928.

Malcolm McGregor Cooper, and is posted to the 1st C Battalion.

Allan Frederick Lee to be 2nd Lieutenant (on probation), and is posted to the 1st C Battalion. Dated 1st February, 1929.

The Taranaki Regiment.

Captain F. S. Varnham, M.C., from the Wellington West Coast Regiment, to be Captain, 1st Battalion, with seniority as from the 29th September, 1925. Dated 9th March, 1929.

THE N.Z. MEDICAL CORPS.

The undermentioned Captains to be Majors :-

Temp. Major W. H. Simpson, M.B. Dated 13th September, 1928.
F. W. Kemp, M.C., M.D. Dated 13th September, 1928.
R. A. H. Fulton, M.B. Dated 7th March, 1929.

Captain H. S. Kenrick, M.B., F.R.C.S., from the Reserve of Officers, to be Captain. Dated 13th September, 1928.

Lieutenant A. Cumming, M.R., ceases to be attached to the 1st Battalion, Canterbury Regiment (dated 9th February, 1929), and is posted to the Northern Depot, N.Z.M.C. (dated 1st March, 1929).

Lieutenant A. J. Mason, M.B., is retired. Dated 1st March, 1929.

N.Z. CHAPLAINS DEPARTMENT.

The undermentioned to be Chaplains, 4th Class :-

The Reverend Leland John Blashford Snell (Church of England) (R.D. 12). Dated 27th February, 1929.
Henry J. Parkinson (Salvation Army) (R.D. 9). Dated 13th March, 1929.

A. G. Montgomery, Chaplain, 4th Class, is transferred to the Reserve List, Class II (R.D. 10). Dated 13th March, 1929.

F. L. Garner, Chaplain, 4th Class, Reserve List, Class II, is posted to the Retired List, with permission to retain his rank and wear the prescribed uniform. Dated 9th March, 1929.

G. Inglis, Chaplain, 4th Class, Reserve List Class I, having left the Dominion, is retired. Dated 9th March, 1929.

N.Z. ARMY NURSING SERVICE.

The undermentioned Matrons from the Reserve List to be Matrons. Dated 25th January, 1929.

IT is hereby notified that a petition has been presented to His Excellency the Governor-General, under the Land Drainage Act, 1908, praying that the area described in the Schedule hereto may be included in the Oaonui Irrigation District. All persons affected are hereby called upon to lodge any written objections to or petitions against the proposed alteration of boundaries which they desire to lodge
