THE following Notice to Mariners, which has been received from the Comptroller of Customs, Suva, Fiji Islands, is published for general information.

NOTICE TO MARINERS.

It is the intention of the Government to mark the following dangers in Nadi Waters, Vitilevu :—

Curacoa Rock, in approximate latitude 17° 46′ 17″ S., longitude 177° 18′ 15″ E.

Turtle Patch (Emlynian Shoal), in approximate latitude 17° 48′ S., longitude 177° 19′ E.

  1. Each danger will be marked by a concrete beacon surmounted by an A.G.A. unattended light as follows:—

Curacoa Rock—Single flash every 3 seconds, thus: Light ·3 seconds + eclipse 2·7 seconds.

Turtle Patch—Single flash every 1·5 seconds, thus: 0·15 seconds light + eclipse 1·35 seconds.

Range of lights: 6·75 miles.

  1. It is not anticipated that these lights will be exhibited before July, 1929.

SOUTH PACIFIC OCEAN.—FIJI GROUP.

Ovalau : Existence of Rock Northward of.

Position : At a distance of 1·73 miles 019½° from Tumuna summit. Lat. 17° 37′ S., long. 178° 48′ E. (approx.).

Depth : 1¼ fathoms (2⅓), rock.

NOTE.—On some copies of the charts a beacon was shown in the above position; the beacon no longer exists.

Charts affected : Nos. 1249—905—440—2691.

Transmitting and Receiving Officer for the Service of Notices by Telegraph.

IN pursuance of the powers conferred upon me by the Post and Telegraph Act, 1908 (hereinafter termed “the said Act”), and by the regulations made on the 12th May, 1914, and published in the New Zealand Gazette of the 21st May, 1914, the following officer, at the address set against his name, is hereby appointed Transmitting and Receiving Officer for the purpose of dealing with all notices by telegraph sent under the said Act or regulations, and of signing such certificates in relation to the service of any such notices as are required or authorized to be signed or given under the said Act or the regulations aforesaid.

Regulations Respecting the Blue Ensign of H.M. Fleet (Naval Reserve Flag).

ADMIRALTY REGULATIONS (ARTICLE 126).

WITH reference to clause 1 (b) of the above regulations, as published in the New Zealand Gazette No. 51, dated 29th July, 1926, the number of reservists who must form part of the crew in order that a ship may be eligible to fly the Blue Ensign will, for the year 1929, be seven.
