the Animals Protection and Game Act, 1921–22, published in
the New Zealand Gazette of the 7th February, 1924, page 437,
shall be strictly adhered to by each licensee, who, in addition
thereto, shall return all unused “tags” to the Secretary of
the Buller Acclimatization Society, Westport, immediately
he has finished stalking for the season for which such “tags”
have been issued, together with a statement of the number
of deer shot.

Nothing in any license to take or kill red-deer stags
and hinds shall authorize the holder thereof to take or kill
red-deer stags or hinds on lands actually and exclusively
used by any registered acclimatization society for acclimati-
zation purposes, or on any sanctuary or public domain, or
on any land excepted from the operation of the notification
declaring an open season for the district. -
Any person committing a breach of any of these con-
ditions is liable, on conviction, to a fine of £20.
FIRST SCHEDULE.
All that area comprising the Buller and Inangahua Counties,
bounded towards the north-west generally by a line starting
at a point on the Tasman Sea coast at Kohaihai Bluff, in
Block XIII, Whakapoi Survey District, and proceeding up
a leading spur and along the summit of a range over Mount
Domett to Mount Cobb; thence towards the north-east
generally by a line along the summit of the western ranges
over Mount Snowdon and Mount Peel to Mount Arthur;
thence towards the south-east by a line along the summit
of a leading range over Mount Luna and along the summit
of Lyell Range to Bald Hill; thence by a line down a leading
spur on the western side of Eight-mile or Boundary Stream
to the mouth of that stream; thence down the left bank
of the Buller River and up the right bank of the Inangahua
River to a point due north of Mount Haast; thence by a
right line to Mount Haast; thence by a right line to the
nearest point of the Grey River; thence towards the south-
west generally by a line down the middle of the Grey River
to its confluence with the Otututu River; thence by a
line up the middle of the Otututu River to its source near
Mount Faraday; thence by a right line to Mount Faraday;
thence towards the south-east by a line along the summit of
the Paparoa Range to a point near the source of the Puna-
kaiki or Deadman’s River; thence towards the south-west
generally by a right line to that source, and by a line down
the middle of that river to the sea; thence towards the
north-west by the Tasman Sea to Kohaihai Bluff, the place
of commencement
SECOND SCHEDULE.
License to take or kill Imported Game (Deer).
, of , having this day paid the sum of
£1, is hereby authorized to take or kill red-deer stags,
of not less than eight points, and an unlimited number of
hinds, within the Buller Acclimatization District from the
18th day of March, 1929, to the 1st day of July, 1929 (both
days inclusive), subject to the provisions of the Animals Pro-
tection and Game Act, 1921–22, and all regulations and
notifications affecting red-deer stags and hinds made there-
under and in force within the said district.
This license does not authorize the holder thereof to take
or kill red-deer stags or hinds on lands actually and exclusively
used by any registered acclimatization society for acclima-
tisation purposes, or on any sanctuary or public domain, or
on any land excepted from the operation of the notification
declaring an open season for the district.

Authorizing the Laying-off of a Road of less Width than 66 ft.
WHEREAS in the opinion of the Minister of Lands it
is inexpedient, by reason of the fact that the land
shown upon the plan of Town of Mervyn, affecting part
Sections 26 and 27, Upper Harbour East District, in the
Land District of Otago, and prepared by Latham Osborn
Beal, Licensed Surveyor, is intended to be used wholly for
residential purposes, that the roads named Howard Street
and Stanley Street shown therein should be of the width of
66 ft. :
Now, therefore, I, George William Forbes, Minister of
Lands, do hereby, in pursuance of the powers conferred upon
me by section 17, subsection (1), of the Land Act, 1924, and
of every other power me thereunto enabling, authorize the
laying-off of such road of a width of 40 ft. : Provided always
that it shall not be lawful for any person to erect or cause
to be erected any building at a less distance than 33 ft. from
the middle of such road.

Notification of the Number of Valid Votes recorded in respect
of National Prohibition at the Licensing Poll taken on the
14th Day of November, 1928, and of the Result thereof.

IN pursuance of the provisions of section 16 of the Licensing
Amendment Act, 1910, as modified by section 58 of the
Licensing Amendment Act, 1918, I, Thomas Mason Wilford,
Minister of Justice, do hereby notify that the total number
of valid votes recorded at the poll throughout New Zealand,
taken in accordance with Part II of the Licensing Amendment
Act, 1918, was 733,231.
And I do further notify that the total number of valid
votes recorded throughout New Zealand in respect of the
proposals submitted under section 56 of the Licensing Amend-
ment Act, 1918, was as under, viz. :
For national continuance .. .. 374,502
For State purchase and control .. .. 64,276
For national prohibition .. .. 294,453
As the total number of valid votes recorded in favour of
either of the proposals for State purchase and control or for
national prohibition without compensation does not amount
to more than one-half of all the valid votes recorded at the
poll, I hereby notify, under section 59 of the Licensing
Amendment Act, 1918, that the result of the poll is that
national continuance is deemed to have been carried.
