Education Act, 1914.—Amended Regulations.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.
At the Government House, at Wellington, this 10th day of December, 1928.
Present:
HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL IN COUNCIL.
IN pursuance and exercise of the powers conferred upon him by the Education Act, 1914, and the amendments of that Act, and of all other powers enabling him in this behalf, His Excellency the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said Dominion, doth hereby amend, in the manner set forth in the Schedule hereto, the regulations at present in force relating to Junior and Senior National Scholarships, and with the like advice and consent doth prescribe that this Order shall come into force on the date of publication thereof in the New Zealand Gazette.
SCHEDULE.
THE regulations relating to Junior and Senior National Scholarships made by Order in Council dated the 26th April, 1927, and amended by Order in Council dated 22nd August, 1927, are hereby further amended as follows:—
- Clause 6 is hereby amended by adding the following proviso:—
Provided that the Senior Scholarships awarded as a result of the examinations held in the years 1928 and 1929 shall be as nearly as possible the same in number as were awarded on the examinations of 1927, and that the number of Senior Scholarships awarded to candidates who are over fifteen years of age on the 1st December in the year in which the examinations are held, and the number awarded to candidates who are not over fifteen years of age on that day shall have approximately the same ratio as the numbers of candidates from these two age-groups: Provided that for the purposes of computation all candidates who are under the age of fourteen years shall be excluded.
- Clause 6A is hereby revoked.

Increasing Borrowing Powers of Auckland Fire Board.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.
At the Government House at Wellington, this 10th day of December, 1928.
Present:
HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL IN COUNCIL.
WHEREAS it is provided by section thirty-one of the Fire Brigades, 1926 (hereinafter called “the said Act”), that the Governor-General in Council may, on the application of any Fire Board established under the said Act, extend the powers of that Board to borrow moneys in excess of the limits fixed by the said section:
And whereas by Order in Council dated the twenty-eighth day of November, one thousand nine hundred and twenty-seven, and published in the Gazette on the first day of December, one thousand nine hundred and twenty-seven, at page 3573, the powers of the Auckland Fire Board to borrow moneys were extended, but so as not to exceed the sum of thirty-five thousand pounds:
And whereas application has been made by the said Auckland Fire Board for further extension of borrowing powers, and it is desirable to grant such application:
Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities vested in him by the said Act, doth hereby declare that the powers of the said Auckland Fire Board to borrow moneys under the said section thirty-one are hereby extended so that as regards the said Board in lieu of the sum of twenty thousand pounds mentioned in the said section thirty-one shall be substituted the sum of forty thousand pounds: Provided that no moneys as aforesaid shall be borrowed except subject to the provisions of the said Act.

Exempting Land in the Netherton Drainage District, County of Hauraki Plains, from Rates under the Hauraki Plains Act, 1926.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.
At the Government House at Wellington, this 10th day of December, 1928.
Present:
HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL IN COUNCIL.
WHEREAS by Order in Council dated the ninth day of June, one thousand nine hundred and twenty-eight, and published in the Gazette of the twenty-first day of that month, the Netherton Drainage District, comprising the land described in the Schedule to the said Order in Council, was constituted pursuant to the Land Drainage Act, 1908:
And whereas such land is land liable to be rated pursuant to sections twelve and thirteen of the Hauraki Plains Act, 1926:
And whereas it is expedient to exempt such land from rates that may be made and levied under the last-mentioned Act:
Now, therefore, in pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon him by subsection eight of section thirteen of the Hauraki Plains Act, 1926, His Excellency the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said Dominion, doth hereby exempt the land comprised within the Netherton Drainage District as constituted by Order in Council dated the ninth day of June, one thousand nine hundred and twenty-eight, hereinbefore referred to, from rates that may be made and levied under the last-mentioned Act after the first day of January, one thousand nine hundred and twenty-nine.
