occupier of any shop affected by this requisition observe, pursuant to section 14 (2) of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22, Saturday as the statutory closing-day, then, and in such case, the closing-hour on Wednesday shall be 5.30 p.m., and the closing-hour on Friday shall be 8.30 p.m.:

And whereas the Minister of Labour is satisfied that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the said shops within the said borough:

Now, therefore, in pursuance of section 32 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22, I, for and on behalf of the Minister of Labour, do hereby direct that on and after the 15th day of October, 1928, all the grocers’ shops within the Borough of Levin shall be closed accordingly.

Notice under the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22, and its Amendment, fixing the Closing-hours of Tobacconists’ Shops within the Combined District of Greymouth and Cobden.

WHEREAS a requisition in writing has been forwarded to the Minister of Labour from the occupiers of tobacconists’ shops within the Combined District of Greymouth and Cobden, comprising the Borough of Greymouth and the Town District of Cobden, pursuant to section 32 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22:

Now, therefore, in pursuance of the said section 32, I, for and on behalf of the Minister of Labour, do hereby direct that on and after the 1st day of October, 1928, all the tobacconists’ shops within the said combined district shall be closed in the evening of working-days as follows: On Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays at 5.30 p.m., and on Saturdays at 9 p.m. with the following exceptions—(1) Should the occupier of any shop affected by this notice observe Saturday as the statutory closing-day, then and in such case the closing-hour on Wednesday shall be 5.30 p.m. and on Friday 9 p.m.; (2) on the working-day immediately preceding Christmas Day and on the working-day immediately preceding New Year’s Day the closing-hour shall be 11 p.m.; (3) on the Thursday immediately preceding Good Friday the closing-hour shall be 9 p.m.; (4) no shop affected by this notice shall be required to be closed thereunder earlier than 8 p.m. on the days of any race meetings held by the Greymouth Trotting Club or the Greymouth Jockey Club:

And whereas the said requisition is signed by not less than two-thirds of the occupiers of tobacconists’ shops within the said combined district, notice is hereby given that, pursuant to section 25 of the Shops and Offices Amendment Act, 1927, all other shops within the said combined district in which smoking requisites are sold shall be closed at the same hours as are set out herein for tobacconists’ shops: Provided that no such other shop shall be required by the said section 25 to be closed earlier than 6 p.m. on any day.

Notice to Mariners No. 55 of 1928.

NEW ZEALAND.—NORTH ISLAND.—AUCKLAND HARBOUR.—DEVONPORT.

(1) Devonport (Duder’s) Wharf demolished.
(2) Victoria Wharf: Name changed.

(1) Position: Situated 062°, 1,990 ft. from Depot Point in lat. 36° 50′ S., long. 174° 48′ E. (approx.).
Details: The old wooden cargo wharf shown in this position on Chart No. 1970 as Devonport Wharf (locally known as Duder’s Wharf), has been removed.

(2) Previous Notices: Wellington Notices Nos. 4 and 31 of 1928.
Position: Victoria Wharf, situated 310 ft. westward of Depot Point.
Details: Victoria Wharf has been demolished and the use of this name has been discontinued. The name “Devonport Wharf” has been given to a new reinforced concrete wharf, a combined structure for cargo and ferries comprising two practically independent wharves, which now exists approximately on the site of the old Victoria Wharf.

Discontinuance of Red Light off Knobby’s Shoal.

Position: Harbour entrance, south side of channel. Lat., 32° 55′ 11″ S.; long., 151° 48′ 00″ E.
Remarks: On or about 1st October, 1928, the red light exhibited from the beacon off Nobby’s Shoal will be discontinued.

PUBLICATION OF THE NEW ZEALAND NAUTICAL ALMANAC AND TIDE TABLES FOR THE YEAR 1929.

THE New Zealand Nautical Almanac and Tide Tables for the year 1929 will be published on the 1st November, 1928, following which the book will be purchasable from Government Shipping Offices throughout New Zealand and from the Marine Department at Wellington.

This publication will, as formerly, contain the following information:—

Tide Tables, giving the daily times of high and low water and the tidal heights for the Ports of Auckland, Bluff, Dunedin, Lyttelton, New Plymouth, Wellington, and Westport.

Time Differences, by the application of which the approximate time of high and low water at various places within New Zealand may be obtained.

Tidal Stream Predictions, showing the approximate time when the streams are slack at French Pass and Tory Channel, for every tide throughout the year.

Daily sunrise and sunset predictions for Auckland, Christchurch, Dunedin, and Wellington; and time differences by which approximate sunrise and sunset times may be ascertained for Invercargill, Nelson, New Plymouth, and Westport.
