THE following extract from the Commonwealth of Australia Gazette No. 86, dated 16th August, 1928, declaring New Zealand to be a reciprocating State for the purposes of the Maintenance Orders (Facilities for Enforcement) Ordinance, 1927 (Territory for the Seat of Government of the Commonwealth of Australia), is published for general information.

PROCLAMATION.
By His Excellency the Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia.
Commonwealth of Australia—to wit, STONEHAVEN, Governor-General.
WHEREAS it is provided by the Maintenance Orders (Facilities for Enforcement) Ordinance, 1927, of the Territory for the Seat of Government that where the Governor-General is satisfied that reciprocal provisions have been made by the Legislature or other competent authority of any part of His Majesty’s Dominions outside England and Ireland for the enforcement within that part of maintenance orders made by Courts within the Territory, the Governor-General may, by Proclamation published in the Gazette, declare that part to be a reciprocating State for the purposes of that Ordinance :
And whereas the Governor-General is satisfied that reciprocal provisions have been made by the Legislature of the Dominion of New Zealand for the enforcement within the said Dominion of maintenance orders made by Courts within the Territory :
Now, therefore, I, John Lawrence, Baron Stonehaven, the Governor-General aforesaid, acting with the advice of the Federal Executive Council, hereby declare the Dominion of New Zealand to be a reciprocating State for the purposes of the said Ordinance.
Given under my hand and the Seal of the Commonwealth, at Sydney, this sixth day of July, in the year of Our Lord, one thousand nine hundred and twenty-eight, and in the nineteenth year of His Majesty’s reign.

Notice under the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22, and its Amendment, fixing the Closing-hours of Tobacconists’ Shops within the Combined District of Greymouth and Cobden.
——
WHEREAS a requisition in writing has been forwarded to the Minister of Labour from the occupiers of tobacconists’ shops within the combined district of Greymouth and Cobden, comprising the Borough of Greymouth and the Town District of Cobden, pursuant to section 32 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22 :
Now, therefore, in pursuance of the said section 32, I, for and on behalf of the Minister of Labour, do hereby direct that on and after the 1st day of October, 1928, all the tobacconists’ shops within the said combined district shall be closed in the evening of working-days as follows: On Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays at 5.30 p.m., and on Saturdays at 9 p.m. with the following exceptions: (1) Should the occupier of any shop affected by this notice observe Saturday as the statutory closing-day, then and in such case the closing-hour on Wednesday shall be 5.30 p.m. and on Friday 9 p.m.; (2) on the working-day immediately preceding Christmas Day and on the working-day immediately preceding New Year’s Day the closing-hour shall be 11 p.m.; (3) on the Thursday immediately preceding Good Friday the closing-hour shall be 9 p.m.; (4) no shop affected by this requisition shall be required to be closed thereunder earlier than 8 p.m. on the days of any race meetings held by the Greymouth Trotting Club or the Greymouth Jockey Club :
And whereas the said requisition is signed by not less than two-thirds of the occupiers of tobacconists’ shops within the said combined district, notice is hereby given that, pursuant to section 25 of the Shops and Offices Amendment Act, 1927, all other shops within the said combined district in which smoking requisites are sold shall be closed at the same hours as are set out herein for tobacconists’ shops.

Notice under the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22, and its Amendment, fixing the closing-hours of Fishmongers’ Shops within the Combined District of Dunedin.
——
WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all fishmongers’ shops within the Combined District of Dunedin, comprising the City of Dunedin and the Boroughs of St. Kilda, Port Chalmers, West Harbour, and Green Island, has been forwarded to the Minister of Labour, desiring that all such shops within the said combined district be closed in the evening of working-days as follows: On Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at 7 p.m., on Fridays at 10.30 p.m., and on Saturdays at 11 p.m. :
And whereas the Minister of Labour is satisfied that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the said shops within the said combined district :
Now, therefore, in pursuance of section 32 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22, I, for and on behalf of the Minister of Labour, do hereby direct that on and after the 1st day of October, 1928, all the fishmongers’ shops within the Combined District of Dunedin shall be closed accordingly.
The notice dated the 28th September, 1926, and published in the New Zealand Gazette of the 30th September, 1926, fixing the closing-hours of fishmongers’ shops within the City of Dunedin, shall be and is hereby cancelled as from the date of the coming into operation of this notice.

WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all grocers’ shops within the Borough of Otaki, has been forwarded to the Minister of Labour, desiring that all such shops within the said borough be closed in the evening of working-days as follows: On Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, at 5.30 p.m., and on Saturdays at 8 p.m. :
And whereas the Minister of Labour is satisfied that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the said shops within the said borough :
Now, therefore, in pursuance of section 32 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22, I, for and on behalf of the Minister of Labour, do hereby direct that on and after the 1st day of October, 1928, all the grocers’ shops within the Borough of Otaki shall be closed accordingly.
The notice dated the 13th April, 1921, and published in the New Zealand Gazette of the 21st April, 1921, fixing the closing-hours of grocers’ shops in the Borough of Otaki shall be and is hereby cancelled as from the date of the coming into operation of this notice,
