Appointment in the Public Service.

THE Public Service Commissioner has made the following appointment in the Public Service :—

to be the Returning Officer for the Electoral District of Hutt for the purposes of the Electoral Act, 1927, as from the 4th day of September, 1928.

HIS Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased to approve of the appointments, promotions, resignations, and transfers of the undermentioned officers of the N.Z. Military Forces.

COMMAND.

Captain W. A. Gray, M.C., is appointed to command the Northern Depot, Corps of N.Z. Engineers. Dated 29th July, 1928.

CORPS OF N.Z. ENGINEERS.

Central Depot.

Lieutenant J. T. McCaw, from the Wellington Regiment, to be Lieutenant. Dated 27th August, 1928.

THE N.Z. INFANTRY.

The Auckland Regiment (Countess of Ranfurly’s Own).

Colonel C. T. Major, C.B.E., D.S.O., V.D., Reserve of Officers, is appointed honorary Colonel to the Regiment. Dated 24th August, 1928.

2nd Lieutenant L. Russell, 1st Battalion, is transferred to the Wellington Regiment. Dated 27th August, 1928.

The Hauraki Regiment.

The appointment of 2nd Lieutenant (on probation) L. A. Watkins, 1st C Battalion, is confirmed.

The North Auckland Regiment.

Major C. S. White, from the Reserve of Officers, to be Major, 1st Battalion. Dated 27th August, 1928.

Captain F. G. Coleman, from the Taranaki Regiment, to be Captain, 1st Battalion, with seniority as from the 1st July, 1924. Dated 27th August, 1928.

The appointment of 2nd Lieutenant (on probation) E. J. Aim, 1st C Battalion, is confirmed.

The Waikato Regiment.

2nd Lieutenant H. J. Keys, from the Nelson, Marlborough, and West Coast Regiment, to be 2nd Lieutenant, 1st Battalion, with seniority as from the 16th July, 1923. Dated 13th August, 1928.

The Wellington Regiment.

2nd Lieutenant C. B. Lewis, 1st Battalion, is transferred to the Wellington West Coast Regiment. Dated 31st August, 1928.

Lieutenant J. T. McCaw, 1st C Battalion, is transferred to the Corps of N.Z. Engineers. Dated 27th August, 1928.

2nd Lieutenant L. Russell, from the Auckland Regiment (Countess of Ranfurly’s Own), to be 2nd Lieutenant, with seniority as from the 4th March, 1924, and is posted for duty with the 1st C Battalion. Dated 27th August, 1928.

The Wellington West Coast Regiment.

2nd Lieutenant C. B. Lewis, from the Wellington Regiment, to be 2nd Lieutenant, with seniority as from the 24th August, 1923, and is posted for duty with the 2nd C Battalion. Dated 31st August, 1928.

The Hawke’s Bay Regiment.

Lieutenant W. B. Stewart ceases to be posted to the 3rd C Battalion, and is posted to the 6th Field Battery, N.Z.A., and detailed for duty with the Artillery Section, Napier Boys’ High School, Napier. Dated 31st August, 1928.

Lieutenant E. R. Murphy ceases to be posted to the 1st C Battalion, and is posted to the 6th Field Battery, N.Z.A., and detailed for duty with the Artillery Section, Napier Boy’s High School, Napier. Dated 31st August, 1928.

The Taranaki Regiment.

Captain F. G. Coleman, 1st Battalion, is transferred to the North Auckland Regiment. Dated 27th August, 1928.

2nd Lieutenant S. M. Norman, 2nd C Battalion, is retired. Dated 27th August, 1928.

The Nelson-Marlborough and West Coast Regiment.

2nd Lieutenant H. J. Keys, 1st Battalion, is transferred to the Waikato Regiment. Dated 13th August, 1928.

N.Z. MEDICAL CORPS.

Cedric Walter Isaac, M.B., to be Lieutenant, and is attached for duty to the Waikato Regiment. Dated 23rd July, 1928.

RESERVE OF OFFICERS.

The Regiment of N.Z. Artillery.

The notice published in the N.Z. Gazette No. 55 of 12th July, 1928, relating to Major H. G. Wilding, D.S.O., is hereby cancelled. Dated 25th August, 1928.

Awards of the Colonial Auxiliary Forces Long-service Medal.

New Zealand Inscribed Stock Act, 1917.—Closing of Registers.

NOTICE is hereby given that the Register of New Zealand 4½-per-cent. Inscribed Stock, maturing 20th April, 1939, and the Register of New Zealand 5-per-cent. Inscribed Stock, maturing 20th April, 1929, will be closed from the 1st to the 20th October, 1928 (inclusive), for the purpose of the issue of half-yearly interest.

NOTICE is hereby given that His Excellency the Governor-General has, in pursuance of section 54 of the Land Act, 1924, approved of meetings of the Auckland Land Board being held at the District Lands and Survey Office, Auckland, at 10 o’clock a.m. on Tuesday, 22nd January, 26th February, 19th March, 30th April, 28th May, 25th June, 30th July, 27th August, 24th September, Wednesday, 30th October, Tuesday, 26th November and 17th December, during the year 1929.
