Notification of Approval of Rules, Grey District Acclimatization Society.

Wellington, 22nd August, 1928.

PURSUANT to the provisions of section 25 of the Animals Protection and Game Act, 1921-22, I hereby notify that copies of the rules made by the Grey District Acclimatization Society on the 22nd day of May, 1928, have been forwarded to me, and were approved on the 22nd day of August, 1928.

Applying the Provisions of Section 119 of the Public Works Act, 1908, to the Bulls Bridge.

WHEREAS it is provided by section 7 of the Main Highways Amendment Act, 1925, that the Minister of Public Works may, on the recommendation of the Main Highways Board (hereinafter referred to as “the Board”), by notice in the Gazette, declare that the provisions of section 119 of the Public Works Act, 1908, in so far as it provides for the apportionment of the cost of construction of any bridge forming part of a main highway, shall apply with respect to the apportionment of the cost of construction of any bridge forming part of a main highway in so far as such cost is not provided for out of the Main Highways Fund :

And whereas on the 19th day of July, 1928, the Board resolved as follows : “That in terms of the Main Highways Amendment Act, 1925, the Hon. Minister of Public Works be recommended to apply the provisions of section 119 of the Public Works Act, 1908, to the Bulls Bridge on the Auckland-Wellington, via Taranaki, Main Highway :

Now, therefore, I, Kenneth Stuart Williams, Minister of Public Works, in pursuance and exercise of the powers conferred by the said section 7, and of every other power in anywise enabling me in this behalf, do hereby declare that the provisions of section 119 of the Public Works Act, 1908, in so far as they provide for the apportionment of the cost of construction, shall apply with respect to the apportionment of the cost of construction of the Bulls Bridge on the Auckland-Wellington, via Taranaki, Main Highway.

Additional Notice under the Shops and Offices Act, 1921-22, and its Amendment, fixing the Closing-hours of Chemists’ Shops within the City of Wanganui.

WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the chemists’ shops within the City of Wanganui, has been forwarded to the Minister of Labour, desiring that all such shops within the said city be closed on Sundays, save and except that shop (hereinafter referred to as “the exempted shop”) established at 55 Guyton Street, within the City of Wanganui, for the purpose only of the sale of medicines and surgical appliances that are urgently required ; and, further, that subsection (4) of section 35 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921-22, shall not apply to any chemist’s shop which is within two miles and a half of the exempted shop while medicines and surgical appliances are obtainable from the exempted shop :

And whereas the Minister of Labour is satisfied that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the said shops within the said city, and that all the occupiers of the said shops within the said city affected by section 35 (1) of the said Act have been afforded an equal right to share at a reasonable cost in the profits of the business carried on by the exempted shop :

Now, therefore, in pursuance of sections 32 and 35 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921-22, and in pursuance of section 15 of the Shops and Offices Amendment Act, 1927, I, for and on behalf of the Minister of Labour, do hereby direct that on and after the 10th day of September, 1928, all the chemists’ shops within the City of Wanganui, save and except the exempted shop, shall be closed accordingly.

Note.—Pursuant to section 35 (4) of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921-22, a chemist in the City of Wanganui whose shop is more than two miles and a half from the exempted shop may supply medicines and surgical appliances that are urgently required at any time on Sundays : Provided that the shop is opened for such purpose only, and is closed immediately the sale is effected, and that the door of the shop is kept locked, except for the admission and exit of the customer.


Notice under the Shops and Offices Act, 1921-22, and its Amendment, fixing the Closing-hours of (1) Grocers’ and (2) Drapers’ Shops within the Borough of Ekatahuna.

WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the shops in each of the trades of (1) grocer and (2) draper within the Borough of Ekatahuna, has been forwarded to the Minister of Labour, desiring that all such shops within the said borough be closed in the evening of working-days as follows : On Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays at 5.15 p.m., and on Saturdays at 8.30 p.m. :

And whereas the Minister of Labour is satisfied that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the shops in each of the said trades within the said borough :

Now, therefore, in pursuance of section 32 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921-22, I, for and on behalf of the Minister of Labour, do hereby direct that on and after the 10th day of September, 1928, all the shops in each of the trades of (1) grocer and (2) draper within the Borough of Ekatahuna, shall be closed accordingly.

Hauraki Plains Rating Area.—Notice of Intention to make and levy Rates.

Wellington, 22nd August, 1928.

NOTICE is hereby given that it is intended, pursuant to the Hauraki Plains Act, 1926, and its amendments, to make and levy a rate for the period from 1st April, 1928, to the 31st March, 1929, on the unimproved value of all land within the district constituted under the said Act.

The amount of such rate will be payable in one sum on the 10th day of September, 1928.

The valuation roll of the district is open for inspection at the office of the Collector of Rates, Chief Drainage Engineer’s Office, 5 Law Court Buildings, High Street, Auckland, and a copy of the same may be inspected at the office of the Chief Drainage Engineer, Kerepeehi, at all times at which those offices are open for transaction of public business.
