THE following Notice to Mariners, which has been received
from the Commonwealth Lighthouse Service, Mel-
bourne, is published for general information.

AUSTRALIA.--EAST COAST.--CUMBERLAND ISLANDS.--COPPERSMITH ROCK.
Light established (U).
Mariners and others are hereby notified that a group-
flashing white light (U) was established on Coppersmith Rock
on 2nd July, 1928.
Previous notice : 1928, No. 2.
Position : On summit of Coppersmith Rock, about 3 cables
south-eastward of southern end of Silversmith Island, and
at a distance of 3.25 miles 262° from centre of Dorsal Rock.
Lat. 20° 35½' S., Long. 149° 08' E., on Chart No. 347.
Details--
Character--Group-flashing white (U) showing two flashes
every six seconds thus : Flash, ⅓ sec.; eclipse, 1 sec.;
flash, ⅓ sec.; eclipse, 4⅓ secs.
Elevation--88 ft.
Power--3,000 candles.
Visibility--15 miles except from 322° to 341° where it
is obscured by Silversmith Island.
Structure--Steel framework tower painted red, 54 ft. in
height.
Remarks : The light is unwatched. No further notice will
be given.

Notice to Mariners No. 50 of 1928.
Marine Department,
Wellington, N.Z., 14th August, 1928.
NEW ZEALAND.--SOUTH ISLAND.--WEST COAST.--WESTPORT HARBOUR.
Railway Flood Lights visible Seaward.
Position : Lat. 41° 45' S., long. 171° 37' E. (approx.).
Details : Two lights, of 1,500 candle-power each, visible
seaward, and mounted on lattice towers 95 ft. in height,
have been installed within the township at Westport Railway-
yards.
These lights are 767 yds. apart (approx.), and in transit
163°. They are reported to be visible at the extreme range
of distance provided by their elevation.
Remarks : These flood lights must not be used for navigational purposes.
