HIS Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased to approve the following appointment in the New Zealand Division of the Royal Navy:—
Commissioned Gunner (T) Harold James Taylor, R.N. to H.M.S. “Philomel,” vice Deverill, to date 25th November, 1927.

Notice under the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22, fixing the Closing-hours of Butchers’ Shops within the Borough of Hawera.
WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the butchers’ shops within the Borough of Hawera, has been forwarded to me, desiring that all such shops within the said borough be closed in the evening of working-days as follows: On Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays at 5 o’clock p.m., on Wednesdays at 12 noon, and on Saturdays at 8.30 o’clock p.m., and, during the months affected by the Summer Time Act, 9 o’clock p.m.:
And whereas I, George James Anderson, Minister of Labour, am satisfied that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the said shops within the said borough:
Now, therefore, in pursuance of section 32 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22, I do hereby direct that on and after the 6th day of February, 1928, all the butchers’ shops within the Borough of Hawera shall be closed in the evening of working-days as follows: On Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays at 5 o’clock p.m., and on Saturdays at 8.30 o’clock p.m., with the exception that during the period affected by the Summer Time Act, 1927, the closing-hour on Saturdays shall be 9 o’clock p.m.
The notice dated the 27th June, 1927, and published in the New Zealand Gazette of the 30th June, 1927, fixing the closing-hours of butchers’ shops within the Borough of Hawera is hereby cancelled as from the date of the coming into operation of this notice.

IT is hereby notified, for general information, that the Surveyors Board, in conjunction with the Australian Surveyors Boards, will conduct an examination of candidates completing sittings for licenses to survey, commencing at 10 a.m. on Monday, 19th March, 1928, at Wellington.
Candidates are notified that their applications, on the proper form, must reach the Secretary of the Board not later than Thursday, 8th March, and that the examination fee of £1 1s. must be paid at the same time to the Secretary, from whom application forms, and other particulars may be obtained. Candidates desiring to sit in other centres than Wellington must forward a double fee of £2 2s.
At this examination no candidates sitting for the first time will be accepted, only those completing former sittings.
