IN pursuance and exercise of the powers conferred by section three hundred and fifty-nine of the Land Act, 1924, I, General Sir Charles Fergusson, Baronet, Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby temporarily reserve from sale the lands in the North Auckland, Auckland, Gisborne, Hawke's Bay, Nelson, Marlborough, Westland, and Otago Land Districts described in the Schedule hereunder written, for the purposes specified in the said Schedule.

Opening Settlement Land in North Auckland Land District for Selection.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the Land Act, 1924, and the Land for Settlements Act, 1925, I, General Sir Charles Fergusson, Baronet, Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby declare that the settlement land described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for selection on renewable lease on Monday, the third day of September, one thousand nine hundred and twenty-eight, at the rental mentioned in the said Schedule; and I do also declare that the said land shall be leased under and subject to the provisions of the said Acts.

SCHEDULE.

NORTH AUCKLAND LAND DISTRICT.—SETTLEMENT LAND.—SECOND-CLASS LAND.

Bay of Islands County.—Kaeo and Omarere Survey Districts.—Puketi Settlement.

SECTION 1s: Area, 1,185 acres 1 rood. Capital value, £1,760. Half-yearly rent, £44.

Section 2s: Area, 809 acres. Capital value, £1,515; £190.* Half-yearly rent, £37 17s. 6d.; £9 3s. 1d.†

• Valuation for buildings.

† Half-yearly instalment of principal and interest on buildings consisting of iron dwelling of three rooms and lean-to; cowshed, 24 ft. by 14 ft., rimu with iron roof, 4 bails; and yard and branding-race; valued at £190. Payable in cash or in fifteen years by thirty half-yearly instalments of £9 3s. 1d. Total half-yearly payment on lease, £47 0s. 7d.

Situated about eight miles from Okaihau Railway-station by formed road. Land is well watered by several streams. Elevation, 800 ft. to 1,200 ft. above sea-level.

Section 1s: About 100 acres good grass, 600 acres bush containing about 125,000 sup. feet of rimu and 35,000 sup-feet of miro; balance fern and second growth, with some rough feed. Approximately two miles and a quarter of fencing, in good repair generally.

Section 2s: About 70 acres rich flat land in grass, 80 acres felled and grassed, 200 acres bush and fern, containing sufficient totara for lessee’s requirements, some dry kauris (principally heads and dry rikas), and some rimu, 200 acres gum land; balance old kauri workings in rough feed. Approximately 140 chains of fencing, in good condition generally.

SPECIAL CONDITION.

The lessees of these sections may, after having obtained the written consent of the Commissioner of Crown Lands, cut, fell, clear off, and carry away any of the timber standing or lying on the sections or any part thereof, for the purpose of clearing the lands for cultivation, and may use any part of the said timber for fencing or other purposes connected with the occupation and cultivation of the lands, but not for sale: Provided always that the said Commissioner may at his discretion allow the lessees to dispose of any timber, subject to the payment of such royalties as the Commissioner thinks fit.
