ISLAND TO MAGNETIC ISLAND.
Submerged Obstruction reported.
Position : Lat. 19° 14½' south., long. 147° 30½' east.
Remarks : A submerged obstruction is reported to exist in
the above approximate position (040°, 7 miles from Cape
Bowling Green Light). No further details available.

Lady Elliot Island.—Alteration in Light.
Mariners and others are hereby notified that the Flashing
White Light on Lady Elliot Island was altered on 2nd March,
1928.
Previous Notice : No. 19 of 1927.
Position : On south-west side. Lat. 24° 07' S., long. 152°
45½' E., on chart No. 345.
Alterations : The period and length of flash have been
reduced and the power increased as follow :—
Character : Flashing. White every five seconds, thus :
Flash ½ sec., eclipse 4½ secs.
Power : The power has been increased to 85,000 candles.
Visibility : 13 miles.
NOTE.—In other respects the light remains unaltered.
Remark : No further notice will be given.

Position : Lat. 37° 33'.5 S., long. 178° 19'.3 E.
Details : The normal period of this light was restored on 18th
February, 1928.

NEW ZEALAND.—NORTHERN COAST.—GREAT BARRIER
ISLAND.—MINERS HEAD.
Sunken Rock reported.
Position : Lat. 36° 03½' S., long. 175° 19½' E. (approx.).
Details : A sunken rock is reported to exist at a distance of
three-quarters of a mile off Miners Head, and in a line with
the outer extreme of Moko Hinau Islands. A sounding of
seven fathoms was obtained in this locality, shortly after
which some white patches of rock, indicating a lesser depth,
were observed.
Remarks : It is intended a closer examination of this locality
will be made, after which further information will be issued.

COUNCIL.
IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities
conferred on me by section twenty-five of the Naval
Defence Act, 1913, and of all other powers and authorities
enabling me in that behalf, I, Sir Charles Fergusson, Baronet,
Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, acting
by and with the advice and consent of the Executive
Council of the said Dominion, do hereby amend and supplement the regulations referred to in the Schedule hereto as
shown therein.
SCHEDULE.
REGULATIONS FOR THE GOVERNMENT AND PAYMENT OF THE
NEW ZEALAND DIVISION OF THE ROYAL NAVY.
Boys entering the New Zealand Division of the Royal Navy
as from the date of this Order are not to be given the rating
of ordinary seaman (2nd class), ordinary signalman (2nd
class), or ordinary telegraphist (2nd class) on attaining the
age of seventeen years; they are, however, to be paid at the
rates now authorized for ordinary ratings (2nd class). The
ordinary rating (2nd class) is to be allowed to die out.
