same be passed at once with a view to their approval by His Excellency the Governor-General in pursuance of the Gaming Act, 1908, section 33.

Mr. E. S. Rutherford, the Chairman of such Club, and the meeting moved, and Mr. J. J. Reid seconded, and it was resolved that such Regulations should be adopted, and that the Chairman and Secretary be authorized to sign the same in authentication thereof.

The following are the regulations referred to :-

MARLBOROUGH RACING CLUB.

REGULATIONS.

(Under the Gaming Act, 1908.)

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers in that behalf contained in section 33 of the Gaming Act, 1908, and of all other powers and authorities it enabling in that behalf the Marlborough Racing Club, a racing club within the meaning of the said Act (hereinafter referred to as “ the said club ”), doth hereby make the following regulations controlling the admission of persons to that part of the racecourse situated in the district of Trentham, and known as the Trentham Racecourse, while the said racecourse is used or occupied by the said club for race meetings.

  1. These regulations shall come into force on the date of the same being published in the New Zealand Gazette.

  2. In these regulations the words “ bookmaker,” “ racing club,” and “ race meeting ” shall have the meanings ascribed to those terms respectively by section 2 of the Gaming Act, 1908.

  3. The following persons shall be and are hereby excluded from the racecourse above described while the same is used or occupied by the said club for a race meeting, namely :-

(a) Bookmakers.

(b) Bookmakers’ clerks, bookmakers’ assistants, and bookmakers’ agents.

(c) All persons under disqualification inflicted by any racing or trotting club in the Dominion of New Zealand, the Commonwealth of Australia, or elsewhere if affiliated to the New Zealand Racing Conference, or the New Zealand Trotting Conference, or the New Zealand Trotting Association.

(d) Common prostitutes and persons who habitually consort with thieves or persons who have no lawful visible means of support.

(e) Professional tipsters, persons convicted of house breaking or pocket picking, forgery, uttering or possessing counterfeit coin, theft, false pretences, receiving stolen goods, mischief, assault, or any offence or crime of any kind under the Crimes Act, 1908, and also idle and disorderly persons, rogues, and vagabonds, and incorrigible rogues convicted under the Police Offences Act, 1908, and persons convicted of an offence under the Gaming Act, 1908.

Provided always that the Stipendiary Stewards’ Committee appointed by the New Zealand Racing Conference, upon being satisfied by evidence as to character and otherwise that any person who, by reason of any conviction, comes within the scope of this regulation, should have relief from the effect thereof, may grant exemption to any such person, and may at any time revoke any such exemption without notice to such person, and without assigning any reason for such revocation.

The foregoing regulations of the Marlborough Racing Club were made and passed by such club on the 21st day of March, 1928, and signed by the Chairman and Secretary.

APPLICATION FOR A LICENSE FOR A DRY RACE.

To the Warden of the Otago Mining District, at Cromwell.

PURSUANT to the Mining Act, 1926, the undersigned Ernest Marsh Sanders, of Lowburn, Settler, hereby applies for a license for a dry race, as specified in the Schedule hereto, the course whereof has been duly marked out for the purpose.

Precise time of marking your privilege applied for : 5 p.m., 20/3/28.

Date and number of miner’s right : 16/7/27 ; No. 21754.

Address for service : Broderick and Parcell, Solicitors, Cromwell.

Dated at Cromwell, this 21st day of March, 1928.

SCHEDULE.

Locality of the race, and of its starting and terminal points : Commencing at a point in Lowburn Creek in freehold of Frank Partridge 10 ft. below Moody and Bilton’s present intake, going through Partridge’s freehold, and then crossing County road and going through Crown lands, then through R. G. Redhead’s freehold to applicant’s property.

Length and intended course of race : ½ mile ; north to south.

Points of intake : One; Lowburn Creek.

Estimated time and cost of construction : One month ; £20.

Mean depth and breadth : 18 in. by 18 in.

Number of heads to be diverted : Half head.

Purpose for which water is to be used : Domestic and irrigation.

Proposed term of license : Twenty-one years.

NOTICE is hereby given that the Partnership heretofore subsisting between WILLIAM WATTS and CHARLES WATTS, carrying on business as Contractors and Builders, at Wellington, under the style or firm of “ Watts Bros., ” has been dissolved as from the date hereof. All debts due to and owing by the said late firm will be received and paid respectively by the said Charles Watts, who will continue to carry on the said business under the style of “ Watts Bros. ”

NOTICE is hereby given, in pursuance of sections 230 and 252 of the Companies Act, 1908, that a general meeting of the members of the above-named company will be held at the office of Mr. FREDERICK SAMUEL BUTLER, Liardet Street, New Plymouth, on Friday, 20th April, 1928, at 11 o’clock a.m., for the purpose of having an account laid before them showing the manner in which the winding-up has been conducted, and the property of the company disposed of, and of hearing any explanation that may be given by the Liquidator, and also of determining by extraordinary resolution the manner in which the books, accounts, and documents of the company and of the Liquidator thereof shall be disposed of.

RESOLUTION MAKING SPECIAL RATE.

Renewal Loan, £3,500, 1928.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers vested in it in that behalf by the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1926, the Hastings Borough Council hereby resolves as follows :-

That, for the purpose of providing the interest and sinking fund on a loan of £3,500, authorized to be raised by the Hastings Borough Council under section 17 (b) of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1926, to be expended for the following purposes : To be applied towards the repayment of a loan of £4,000, due on the 30th March, 1928, and to be known as the Renewal Loan, £3,500, 1928 (£3,500) ; the said Hastings Borough Council hereby makes and levies a special rate of 3/50d. in the pound on the rateable value, on the basis of the unimproved value, of all rateable property in the Borough of Hastings, comprising the whole of the said borough, and that such special rate shall be an annual-recurring rate during the currency of such loan, and be payable yearly on the 1st day of April in each and every year during the currency of such loan, being a period of twenty (20) years, or until the loan is fully paid off.
