Open Season for Imported Game and Native Game, License Fee, &c., East-Coast Acclimatization District.

IN exercise of the powers vested in me by the Animals Protection and Game Act, 1921-22, I, Maui Pomare, Acting Minister of Internal Affairs of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby declare the period from the 1st day of May to the 31st day of July, 1928 (both days inclusive), to be an open season in the East Coast Acclimatization District, as described in the First Schedule hereto, except in the areas referred to in condition No. 3 and in the Second Schedule hereto, for the taking or killing of the following imported and native game—viz., cock pheasants, Virginian, Californian, and Australian quail; grey duck, shoveller, and black swan—subject to the following conditions.

CONDITIONS.

1. LICENSES to take or kill such imported game and native game within the said district will be issued to any person on payment of the sum of twenty shillings (20s.) each, and the Chief Postmaster at Gisborne, and the Postmasters at Motu, Te Karaka, and Patutahi are hereby authorized to sign and issue the said licenses.

2. The number of such native game that may be taken or killed by any one person in any one day shall not exceed twenty-five head in all.

3. Nothing in any license to take or kill imported game and native game shall authorize the holder thereof to take or kill imported game or native game on lands actually and exclusively used by any registered acclimatization society for acclimatization purposes, or on any sanctuary or public domain.

4. No person shall kill or destroy any such imported game or native game, or shoot at or attempt to shoot at any such imported game or native game, with any automatic or auto-loading gun, unless it is converted into a gun capable of carrying two cartridges only, or with any rifle or pea-rifle, swivel-gun, punt-gun, or pump-gun, or shall use any gun other than a shoulder-gun; and no gun shall be used for the purpose aforesaid the bore of which is larger than the size known as No. 12 at the muzzle, nor shall any gun be used which exceeds 10 lb. in weight.

5. Shooting may begin not earlier than one hour before sunrise and must cease not later than one hour after sunset.

6. No live birds of any species shall be used as decoys, nor shall more than twenty-five artificial decoys be used at any one time (whether by one or several persons) on any particular water within an area of 100 yards square.

7. No person shall use any power-boat or launch in connection with the taking or killing of imported or native game.

8. Any person committing a breach of any of these conditions is liable, on conviction, to a fine of £20.

FIRST SCHEDULE.

East Coast District.

All that area in the Gisborne Land District bounded by a line commencing at Maungapohatu Trig. Station and proceeding thence along a right line towards Maungatapere Trig. Station to the south-western boundary of Tahoma No. 2c 3, Section 2 Block; thence north-westerly along that boundary and its production to a point in line with the north-western boundary of S.G. Run 89; thence to and along that boundary, the north-western boundary of S.G. Run 90, the north-western boundaries of Sections 2 and 3, Block XII, Moanui Survey District, Sections 4, 1, and 2, Block IX, and Section 2, Block V, Motu Survey District, to Pokaikiri Trig. Station; thence along a right line to Trig. Station 149a; thence to and along the Whakapauakihi Stream, to and down the Motu River to a point in line with Trig. Stations 140 (Pungarehu) and 139a (Tuanui o te Kahakaha); thence along a right line passing through said Station 140 to aforesaid Trig. Station 139a; thence along a right line to Arowhana Trig. Station, and along a right line towards Kapua Trig. Station to the western boundary of Huiarua No. 3 Block; thence along the western and southern boundaries of Huiarua No. 3 Block to the Mata River; thence up the Mata River to the south-eastern boundary of Section 1, Block VI, Tutamoe Survey District; thence along the south-eastern boundaries of Section 1, Block VI, Section 2, Block V, and Section 1, Block IX, Tutamoe Survey District, to the southernmost corner of the last-mentioned section; thence along the north-eastern boundaries of Waipaoa Nos. 2 and 3b to the Waingaromia River; thence down that river to the south-western boundary of Section 1, Block VII, Waingaromia Survey District; thence along that boundary to the public road intersecting the said Section 1; thence north-easterly generally along that road to the northernmost corner of S.G.R. 42; thence along the north-eastern and south-eastern boundaries of the said S.G.R. 42, the north-eastern and south-eastern boundaries of Lot 1 of S.G.R. 43a to a public road; thence south-easterly and south-westerly along that road to the northern boundary of S.G.R. 58; thence along that boundary to the south-western boundary of Section 1, Block XVI, Waingaromia Survey District; thence along that boundary and along the southern and eastern boundaries of Section 1, Block XIII, Uawa Survey District, to the Pakarae River; thence down the Pakarae River to the northern boundary of the Pakarae Block; thence along the northern and north-eastern boundaries of that block to the sea; thence southerly generally along the sea-coast to Paritu; thence along a right line to the confluence of the Hangaroa and Ruakituri Rivers; thence up the Hangaroa River to the southern boundary of Tauwharetoa No. 3a Block, along that boundary and the north-eastern boundaries of Tauwharetoi No. 3a 1 and 4b Blocks, the north-western boundary of the last-named block, along the north-eastern and eastern boundaries generally of Sections 4, 3, and 1, Block IX, Hangaroa Survey District, to the Bushy Knoll Road; north-westerly along that road to the Gisborne-Waikaremoana Road, and westerly along that road to Section 1, Block VIII, Tuahu Survey District; thence along the south-eastern and northern boundaries of said Section 1, and along the northern boundary of S.G.R. 84 to the Ruakituri River, up that river to its intersection with a right line between Puketapu and Maungapohatu Trig. Stations; thence north-westerly along that right line to Maungapohatu, the point of commencement.

SECOND SCHEDULE.

Areas, in addition to those referred to in condition No. 3, excepted from the open season, where imported game and native game shall not be taken or killed:—

Hauomatuku Block 4c 63ab and Mangaone Block 113 and C 1a and 1b, being the property of William Morris.

Lands in the Patutahi and Waikohu Survey Districts.—County of Cook.—Gisborne Land District: All those areas, containing 11,765 acres 2 roods 32·8 perches, and bounded as follows: Firstly, commencing at the south-west corner of Section 118, Block VII, Patutahi Survey District, bounded towards the west by Section 177 and a public road, Blocks III and VII; thence on the south by Sections 116 and 115, Blocks II and III; thence again on the west by Sections 114 and 122 and by Lots 3 and Subdivision No. 1, Okahuatiu No. 2a, Blocks III and II, and by the Mangatoitoi Stream to the south-western boundary of Section 132, Block III; thence on the north-east by the aforesaid Section 132 and Sections 130, 85, 129, and 84; and on the north-west by the aforesaid Section 84 to the Waikakariki Stream; thence on the west by Lots 1 and 2, Repongaere A Block, Blocks III, Patutahi, and XV, Waikohu Survey Districts; thence on the east by Section 9s, Repongaere Settlement, Block XVI, Waikohu Survey District; and on the south-east by Lot 4, Repongaere A Block, Blocks XVI, Waikohu, and III, Patutahi Survey Districts, to the Waikakariki Stream; thence by that stream to the north-west corner of Section 81, Block III, Patutahi Survey District; thence on the south-east, north-east, and north-west by the aforesaid Section 81, and so to a public road, Block IV, Patutahi Survey District; thence on the north and east by a public road to the north-east corner of Section 62, Block IV, Patutahi Survey District; thence on the south-east generally by the aforesaid Section 62, Te Aroha Stream, Rakaukaka and Papatu No. 4 Blocks, Blocks IV and VIII, and by a public road, Blocks VII and VIII, to the point of commencement. And, secondly, commencing at the south-east corner of Section 52, Block IV, Patutahi Survey District, and bounded on the south by a public road; on the west by a public road; on the north by Sections 61, 59, 57, 55, 53; on the east by Lots 1 and 14 of Section 50, to the point of commencement. And, thirdly, commencing at the westernmost corner of Lot 7 of Section 20, Block IV, Patutahi Survey District, and bounded on north by a public road; on the south-east by Section 19; on the south-west by Rakaukaka Block, to the point of commencement.
