Open Season for Red-deer Shooting, Otago Acclimatization
District (Hunter Valley and Makarora Districts).
IN exercise of the powers vested in me by the Animals
Protection and Game Act, 1921-22, I, Maui Pomare,
Acting Minister of Internal Affairs of the Dominion of New
Zealand, do hereby declare the period from the 2nd day of
April, 1928, to the 21st day of May, 1928 (both days
inclusive), to be an open season in the Otago Acclimatization
District for the taking or killing of the following imported
game-viz., red-deer stags and hinds-within that part of
the said acclimatization district described in the First
Schedule hereto, subject to the following conditions.
CONDITIONS.
- LICENSES to take or kill red-deer stags and hinds may be
issued by the Chief Postmaster at Dunedin, on the recommendation of the Secretary of the Otago Acclimatization
Society, on payment of a license fee of £6 for Blocks 31,
32, 33, 34, 35, 35A, and 36 in the Makarora District, and on
payment of a license fee of £3 for all other blocks in the
Makarora and Hunter Valley Districts, in the form prescribed in the Second Schedule hereto, and subject to the
said Act and regulations thereunder and this notification:
Provided that not more than one such license shall be issued
to the same person; and also that stalkers shall shoot only
on the blocks specified in their respective licenses.
2 No licensee shall allow any dog to accompany either
himself or any attendant he may have with him. Ball
cartridge only to be used; provided that no metal-patched
or metal-cased bullet shall be used for killing such deer.

Nothing herein contained shall extend to authorizing
any person to sell any deer or portion thereof. -
Regulations as to use of marks of identification of deer-
heads contained in section 6 of the regulations under the
Animals Protection and Game Act, 1921-22, published in
the New Zealand Gazette of the 7th February, 1924, page 437,
shall be strictly adhered to by each licensee, who, in addition
thereto, shall return all unused “tags” to the Secretary of
the Otago Acclimatization Society, Dunedin, immediately he
has finished stalking for the season for which such “tags”
have been issued, together with a statement of the number
of deer shot. -
Nothing in any license to take or kill red-deer stags shall
authorize the holder thereof to take or kill red-deer stags
on lands actually and exclusively used by any registered accli-
matization society for acclimatization purposes, or on any
sanctuary or public domain, or on any land excepted from the
operation of the notification declaring an open season for the
district. -
The licensee must give notice to the said Chief Postmaster
of the date on which it is his intention to stalk deer; such
notice to be posted, or delivered, or telegraphed three clear
days before such date. -
Nothing in this warrant shall apply to deer within the
area described in the warrant dated 8th November, 1923,
and published in Gazette No. 80, of 15th November, 1923, in
which area protection is removed from deer. -
Any person committing a breach of any of these con-
ditions is liable, on conviction, to a fine of £20.
FIRST SCHEDULE.
All that area known as Hunter Valley and Makarora
Districts.
SECOND SCHEDULE.
License to take or kill Imported Game (Deer).
, of , having this day paid the sum of
, is hereby authorized to take or kill red-deer stags,
and an unlimited number of old hinds and stags with deformed
heads, within that part of the Otago Acclimatization District
known as the Hunter Valley and Makarora Districts, upon
Block No. , from the 2nd day of April, 1928, to the
21st day of May, 1928 (both days inclusive), subject to the
provisions of the Animals Protection and Game Act, 1921-22,
and all regulations and notifications affecting red-deer stags
and hinds made thereunder and in force within the said
district.
This license does not authorize the holder thereof to take
or kill red-deer stags or hinds on lands actually and ex-
clusively used by any registered acclimatization society for
acclimatization purposes, or on any sanctuary or public
domain, or on any land excepted from the operation of the
notification declaring an open season for the district.

(Galatea Red-deer Herd Area).
IN exercise of the powers vested in me by the Animals
Protection and Game Act, 1921-22, I, Maui Pomare,
Acting Minister of Internal Affairs of the Dominion of New
Zealand, do hereby declare the period from the 26th day of
March, 1928, to the 26th day of April, 1928 (both days in-
clusive), to be an open season in the Rotorua Acclimatization
District for the taking or killing of the following imported
game-viz., red-deer stags-within that part of the said
acclimatization district described in the First Schedule hereto,
subject to the following conditions.
CONDITIONS.

LICENSES to take or kill red-deer stags may be issued by
the District Manager, Department of Tourist and Health
Resorts at Rotorua, on payment of a license fee of £3, in
the form prescribed in the Second Schedule hereto, and
subject to the said Act and regulations thereunder and this
notification : Provided that not more than one such license
shall be issued to the same person. -
No licensee shall take or kill more than two stags, and
no stag shall be killed carrying antlers with less than ten
points. -
Each licensee must give notice to the said District
Manager, Department of Tourist and Health Resorts, of the
date on which it is his intention to stalk ; such notice to be
given, in writing or by telegraph, two clear days before com-
mencing to stalk. -
No hind or fawn shall be taken or killed on any pretext
whatever ; and no licensee shall allow any dog to accompany
either himself or any attendant he may have with him. Ball
cartridge only to be used ; provided that no metal-patched
or metal-cased bullet shall be used for killing such deer. -

stags, of not less than ten points, within that part of the
Rotorua Acclimatization District as described in the endorse-
ment hereon, from the 26th day of March, 1928, to the
26th day of April, 1928 (both days inclusive), subject
to the provisions of the Animals Protection and Game Act,
1921-22, and all regulations and notifications affecting red-
deer stags made thereunder and in force within the said
district.
This license does not authorize the holder thereof to take
or kill red-deer stags on lands actually and exclusively used
by any registered acclimatization society for acclimatization
purposes, or on any sanctuary or public domain, or on any
land excepted from the operation of the notification declaring
an open season for the district.
