Notice to Mariners No. 70 of 1927.

NEW ZEALAND.—COOK STRAIT.—BROTHERS.

Rock discovered eastward of.

Position : At a distance of 7·8 miles 072° from Brothers Lighthouse.

Description : Rocky shoal, about 40 ft. in diameter, with a least depth of 5 fathoms (9m1).

Remarks : With the above position as centre, and a radius of 2 cables a danger circle enclosing the depth is to be drawn on the chart.

The rock will be known as Fisherman's Rock. Tide ripplings exist in a 028°-208° direction for several cables on either side of the rock.

NOTE.—The south end of Motuara Is., in line with the extreme of C. Koamaru, leads over the shoal.

Warning : The locality is to be avoided by deep-draught vessels.

Notice to Mariners No. 71 of 1927.

NEW ZEALAND.—NORTH ISLAND.—HAURAKI GULF.—AUCKLAND APPROACH.

Motukoreho : Alteration in Light.

Former notice : No. 2 of 1923.

Position : At a distance of 1,990 ft. from Δ on Motukoreho Brown's Is.). Lat. 36° 49' S., long. 174° 54' E. (approx.)

Alteration : On 1st December, 1927, a white sector will be placed in the light, which will then show white between 214° and 224° ; red elsewhere.

Abridged description : Fl. W.R. ev. 4 sec. 27 ft. i0 M (U).

Notice to Mariners No. 72 of 1927.

Marine Department,

Wellington, N.Z., 15th November, 1927.

NEW ZEALAND.—STEWART ISLAND.—AKERS POINT.

(1) Light established;

(2) Beacon erected;

(3) Buoy withdrawn.

(1) Position : Near Akers Point. Lat. 46° 53'-9 south, long. 168° 11'-2 east. Chart 2541.

Details : On or about 20th November, 1927, a flashing-white light with red sector over Barclay Rock will be exhibited from a white wooden tower.

(2) Position : Akers Point.

Details : A small white beacon has been erected in line with the tower to mark the direction of Barclay Rock.

(3) Position : Outside Barclay Rock.

Details : The red pillar-buoy marking this rock will be withdrawn permanently.

Remarks : Further notice will be given when full details are available.

THE following Notice to Mariners, which has been received from the Department of Trade and Customs, Melbourne, is published for general information.

AUSTRALIA.—EAST COAST, QUEENSLAND.—LADY ELLIOT ISLAND.

Intended Alteration in Light.—Temporary Light to be exhibited.

Mariners and others are hereby notified that the flashing white light on Lady Elliot Island will be altered on or about 27th February, 1928, and that during alterations, from about 16th January, 1928, until the date mentioned above, the main light will be extinguished and a temporary group-flashing white light of low power will be exhibited.
