THE following notice to mariners, which has been received
from the Department of Trade and Customs, Melbourne,
is published for general information.

TASMANIA.—NORTH COAST.—CIRCULAR HEAD.
Light to be discontinued.
Mariners and others are hereby notified that the fixed white
light with red sectors (U) on Circular Head will be discontinued
on or about 1st November, 1927.
Position: On rocky point north-westward of head. Lat.
40° 44′ S., long. 145° 17½′ E., on Chart No. 3687.
NOTE.—Further notice will be given when the light has been
discontinued.
Charts affected: Admiralty Chart No. 3687—Albatross
Island to Rocky Head. Admiralty Chart No. 1695B—Bass
Strait, western sheet. Admiralty Chart No. 1079—Tasmania.

SOUTH PACIFIC OCEAN.—COOK ISLANDS, AITUTAKI.
Maina, Extension of Reef westward of.
Position: Maina, lat. 18° 55′ S., long. 159° 48′ W. (approx.).
Details: Information has been received that the western
edge of the reef off Maina extends from a position at a distance
of 3·1 miles 223° from the observation spot + on Aitutaki, in
a 205° direction for 7 cables, thence 149° for 2·5 cables, thence
103° for 3·5 cables.
The reef is to be extended on the chart accordingly, and the
note “Reef repd. to extend further West. (1925)” is to be
expunged.

(3688.) SOUTH PACIFIC OCEAN.—SAMOA ISLANDS.—TUTUILA
ISLAND.—TAPUTAPU ISLAND.
Light established.
On August 28, 1927, a flashing white light every 10 seconds,
flash 1 second, eclipse 9 seconds, was established on Taputapu
Island.
The light is exhibited 290 ft. above high-water from a white
pyramidal structure, and is visible 15 miles. Approx.
position: 14° 19′ S., 170° 51′ W. (See Notice to Mariners

NEIAFU HARBOUR.
Information re Lights.
(a) Light on light-float discontinued.
Position: On southern side of entrance to harbour
and about 1½ cables north-eastward of Muitafuni
flagstaff. Lat. 18° 39′ S., Long. 174° 00′ W.
(approx.).
Details: The fixed green light on this light-float,
marked “Unreliable,” is to be expunged from the
charts.
(b) Light occasional.
Position: On outer end of wharf at Neiafu and about
4½ cables eastward of (a).
Details: The fixed light with red and white sectors, is
only exhibited occasionally and is to be marked
“Occasl.” on the plan.

AUSTRALIA.—QUEENSLAND, INNER ROUTE.—LADY ELLIOT
ISLAND.
Caution re Position.
Position on Chart: Lady Elliot Island, lat. 24° 07′ S.,
long. 152° 44′ E. (approx.).
Caution: Attention is called to the following note, which
is to be inserted near the above island on chart No. 2763:
“Lady Elliot I. and adjacent Shoals are repd. to lie 2 to 3
miles west of their charted position.”
Remarks: The above correction has been included in new
editions of charts Nos. 345 and 346 dated 19th August, 1927.

NEW ZEALAND.—NORTH ISLAND.—WEST COAST.—NEW
PLYMOUTH.
Breakwater-end Light altered to flashing white.
Date of alteration: On 22nd October, 1927, without further
notice.
Position: On Breakwater, Lat. 39° 03′ S., long. 174° 03′
E. (approx.).
Alteration: The fixed green light at the breakwater end
has been replaced by a flashing white light every 3 seconds
thus: Flash, 0·3 sec.; eclipse, 2·7 sec.; elevation, 48 ft.
(14m6); visibility, 3 miles. The arc of visibility is
uninterrupted.
Details: The light is shown from a stand elevated 36 ft.
above the level of the breakwater, at a position from 50 ft.
to 150 ft. back from the breakwater outer end. The light is
to be moved forward as the breakwater construction pro-
gresses.
Remarks: It is intended to increase the visibility to 5
miles at a later date.
