Situated three miles and a half from Hirau Railway-station five miles from Mawheraiti School and Post-office by formed road. About 70 acres of open land, part having been worked by sluicing claims, remainder of section is bush clad, broken by patches of fern. Soil poor to fair. Altitude, 630 ft. to 1,240 ft. above sea-level.

Opening Lands in Nelson Land District for Selection on Renewable Lease.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred on me by the Land Act, 1924, I, General Sir Charles Fergusson, Baronet, Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby declare that the lands described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for selection on renewable lease on Tuesday, the eighth day of November, one thousand nine hundred and twenty-seven, at the rentals mentioned in the said Schedule; and I do also declare that the said lands shall be leased under and subject to the provisions of the said Act.
SCHEDULE.
NELSON LAND DISTRICT.
SECOND-CLASS LAND.
Murchison County.—Matakiki Survey District.—National Endowment.
SECTION 5, Block II: Area, 108 acres. Capital value, £35. Half-yearly rent, 14s.
Weighted with £165, valuation for improvements comprising an old cottage of four rooms, with two detached sheds, 40 chains of fencing in good condition, 75 acres felled and grassed, payable in cash or on deferred payments. Deposit required on deferred payment, 10 per cent.; balance secured by instalment mortgage for ten years bearing interest at 5 per cent. per annum in the case of a discharged soldier and 5½ per cent. per annum in the case of a civilian.
Section is situated one mile from Glenroy School and six miles from Murchison Dairy Factory. Seventy-five acres of bush land felled and grassed, 2 acres stumped, balance bush. Well watered.
THIRD-CLASS LAND.
Waimea County.—Kaiteriteri Survey District.—National Endowment.
Sections 1, 34, and 101, Block XII: Area, 264 acres. Capital value, £130. Half-yearly rent, £2 12s.
Weighted with £5, valuation for improvements comprising 10 chains of 6-wire barbed fencing, payable in cash.
Situated four miles from Riwaka and dairy factory and five miles and a half from a school. About 4 acres in bush; balance worn out pasture, fern, and rubbish. Suitable for tree-planting. Well watered.
SECOND-CLASS LAND.
Murchison County.—Howard Survey District.—National Endowment.
(Exempt from payment of Rent for Ten Years.)
Section 5, Block X: Area, 972 acres. Capital value, £600. Half-yearly rent, £12.
Situated on the Porika track, six miles from the junction of the Howard and Buller Rivers, and twelve miles from Kawatiri Railway-station. Access by formed road to within one mile and a half of section; thence by track. Section comprises broken bush-clad spurs, with pakihi swamps in the head of the valleys. Covered with heavy birch forest and dense undergrowth. Altitude from 1,800 ft. to 3,000 ft. above sea-level. Well watered.
THIRD-CLASS LAND.
Waimea County.—French Pass Survey District.—Crown Land.
(Exempt from payment of Rent for Ten Years.)
Section 19, Block VI: Area, 217 acres. Capital value, £55. Half-yearly rent, £1 2s.
Weighted with £50, valuation for improvements comprising 50 acres of felling and grassing and 25 chains of fencing, payable in cash.
Situated in Kopakiwharangi Bay, adjoining the Village of Bulwer. Access from Havelock, thirty miles distant by sea.
About 167 acres steep bush land; balance felled and grassed. Altitude to 800 ft. above sea-level. Soil of poor quality resting on shale formation.
Takaka County.—Waitapu Survey District.
(Exempt from payment of Rent for Ten Years.)
Sections 9 and 50, Block V: Area, 854 acres 1 rood 34 perches. Capital value, £215. Half-yearly rent, £4 6s.
Situated three miles from Takaka by main road. Level to undulating country, practically all pakihi. Soil of a very poor quality, and only suitable for tree-growing. Well watered.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the Land Act, 1924, I, General Sir Charles Fergusson, Baronet, Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby declare and provide as follows, that is to say:—
The rural lands enumerated in the Schedule hereto are hereby set apart for selection on renewable lease on Tuesday, the eighth day of November, one thousand nine hundred and twenty-seven, at the rentals specified in the said Schedule, and shall be deemed to be heavy-bush lands.
After the first half-year’s rent has been paid by the selector the further instalments of rent payable by him for a period of four years shall not be demanded: provided that if at any time during the first five years of his occupancy the selector disposes of his interest in the land the rent so conceded shall be paid by him in full, and thereupon the Land Board may remit such instalments of rent payable by the incoming tenant, not exceeding in the aggregate the amount of rent previously conceded to the selector, as the Board thinks fit.

SECTION 14, Block XII: Area, 1,156 acres. Capital value, £580. Half-yearly rent, £11 12s.
Situated in Nuggety Creek Valley, ten miles from Murchison, one mile from a school, and three miles from telephone-office. Metalled road to within three miles of section, thence bridle track. About 15 acres felled and grassed, balance heavy birch bush. Mostly hillside broken land, inclined to be shady. Altitude 950 ft. to 2,900 ft. above sea-level. Well watered.
Buller County.—Otumahana Survey District.
(Exempt from payment of Rent for Four Years.)
Section 23, Block IX: Area, 178 acres. Capital value, £230. Half-yearly rent, £4 12s.
Situated on the Seddonville-Karamea Road, two miles and three-quarters from Te Namu Post-office, three miles and a half from Little Wanganui School. Access by main road. About 50 acres of good flat, balance undulating and easy hills, all bush-clad. Altitude, 150 ft. to 450 ft. above sea-level. Well watered.

Section 7, Block II: Area, 159 acres. Capital value, £120. Half-yearly rent, £2 8s.
Situated in Matakiki Valley, fourteen and a half miles from Murchison, one mile and a quarter from post-office, and one and a half miles from a school by good metalled road. All flat and terrace land. About 25 acres have been felled and grassed; balance bush-clad. Altitude, 720 ft. to 850 ft. above sea-level.
