No person shall take trout, tench, or perch in Lake Hawea, its tributary rivers, Lake Wanaka, its tributary rivers, and the Hawea River during the period commencing on the 1st day of June in any year and ending on the 31st day of October in the same year, nor in any other waters within the Otago Acclimatization District during the period commencing on the 1st day of May in any year and ending on the 30th day of September in the same year.

No person shall have in his possession any trout, tench, or perch between the 1st day of June and the 30th day of September (both inclusive) in any year except in either case in freezing works or a freezing chamber.

No person shall cast or throw into any river, stream, or waters in which trout, perch, or tench exist or have been liberated, or shall allow to flow or otherwise get into any such river, stream, or waters any sawdust or sawmill refuse, lime, sheep-dip, flax-mill refuse, or any other matter or liquid that is poisonous or injurious to fish, or place the same near the bank or margin of any such river, stream, or waters so that the same actually gets into the said river, stream, or waters as the result of any ordinary natural agency: Provided that nothing herein contained shall extend to prohibit the deposit in such river, stream, or waters of the debris of any mining claim.

No person shall fish for trout, perch, or tench without a license, and every person fishing for trout, tench, or perch, or any of them, shall on demand of any ranger, constable, or officer of the said society, or of any person producing a license, produce and show to such ranger, constable, officer, or person his license and the contents of his creel or bag, and the bait used by him for taking, catching, or killing such trout, tench, or perch.

Every trout not exceeding nine inches in length, and every perch not exceeding six inches in length, from nose to tip of tail, taken or caught by any person shall immediately be returned alive into the water from which the same is taken, and no person except as aforesaid shall have in his possession any trout not exceeding nine inches in length or any perch not exceeding six inches in length.

No person shall take trout, perch, or tench by cross-line fishing, stroke-hauling, or any other unsportmanlike device, and except as provided in the Fisheries Act, 1908, or in these or any other regulations made thereunder, no trout, perch, or tench shall be taken or caught by any means whatsoever other than a rod and line, bait as aforesaid, and gaff or landing-net, and none of the above-mentioned baits shall be used with any medicated or chemical preparation whatsoever.

No person fishing for trout, tench, or perch shall use more than three baits on one line. No artificial fly shall have more than one hook, and it shall not be lawful to use more than one lead or sinker, and such lead or sinker must be tied above all baits used.

Except as herein provided, no person shall put, stake, set, drag, draw, or place, or allow to be put, staked, set, dragged, drawn, or placed for any purpose whatsoever any net of any description except a landing-net or hand-net in any lake, river, stream, or dam, or within the mouth of any river or stream: Provided that nothing herein contained shall prevent the placing or using of any net other than a stake-net in or across the parts of the rivers and waters mentioned in the Third Schedule hereto, or prevent the taking of fish in accordance with any regulations made under the Fisheries Act, 1908.

No person shall buy, sell, or expose or offer for sale any trout, tench, or perch or any part of such fish unless he has a license authorizing him to do so issued under the Fisheries Act, 1908, or any regulations made thereunder.

No person holding a license for taking trout, tench, or perch shall fish with more than one rod and line or with any bait other than such as are mentioned in Regulation 3 hereof.

For the purposes of these regulations the mouth of every river or stream shall be deemed to include every outlet of the same and the sea-shore between such outlets, and shall include the sea and sea-shore within a radius of 500 yards from every point at which the waters of such river or stream meet those of the sea or of any inlet of the sea at low water.

Notwithstanding anything hereinbefore contained, no bait other than a natural or artificial fly or natural or artificial minnow shall be used for taking fish in any of the lagoons in the Roxburgh Amalgamated Company's old workings, bounded on the south by the Molyneux River, on the east by the Teviot River and the Main Road, on the north by the Main Road, Roxburgh to Alexandra, and on the west by the Ladysmith Company's former claim: Provided that this regulation shall not apply to that dam or portion of the dam at Roxburgh at present held by Mr. W. Lutjens, Roxburgh, under occupation lease.

Any person may net trout in Lake Hawea and Lake Wanaka provided that he holds a valid license to net trout therein, such license to be in the form numbered 3 in the Second Schedule hereto, and to be issued by the Otago Acclimatization Society.

No net of a smaller size than six (6) inches in the mesh from knot to knot in extension when wetted shall be used in any portion of Lake Hawea or Lake Wanaka, and no person shall use more than two nets therein at the same time.

The season for netting in Lake Hawea and Lake Wanaka and fishing with rod and line in Lake Hawea and Lake Wanaka, their tributary rivers and streams, and the Hawea River shall extend from the 1st day of November in any one year to the 31st day of May in the following year (both dates inclusive).

The fee for every such annual license to net trout in Lake Hawea and Lake Wanaka shall be the sum of one pound (£1) for each person so licensed, such fee to be paid to the Secretary or other duly authorized officer of the Otago Acclimatization Society. Such license shall be in the form numbered 3 set out in the Second Schedule hereto.

It shall be the duty of every holder of a license authorizing him to net trout at the close of the fishing season to furnish to the Secretary of the Otago Acclimatization Society a return giving the number and weight of the fish taken during the season.

Any person in lawful occupation of any land may fish without a license on payment of a fee for trout, perch, and tench upon such land during the same period and upon the same conditions as any other person might fish in the same waters who holds a license issued under these regulations.

The term “ Lake Wanaka,” as used in these regulations, means such portion of Lake Wanaka as is within the said Otago Acclimatization District.

Any person offending against any of these regulations shall be liable to a penalty of not less than two pounds (£2) and not exceeding fifty pounds (£50), and all such fines shall be paid to the Otago Acclimatization Society.
FIRST SCHEDULE.
ALL that area in the Otago and Southland Land Districts, bounded on the north by the Westland Acclimatization District, on the north-east by the Waitaki Acclimatization District, and on the east by the sea to the mouth of the Mataura River; thence up the Mataura River to the north-western boundary of Section 4, Block III, Nokomai Survey District; thence north-easterly along that boundary and the north-western boundary of Section 3, Block III aforesaid, to a public road; across that road, and northerly along same to the northern boundary of Section 2, Block III, Nokomai Survey District; thence north-easterly along the summit of the Hector Mountains, passing through Lorn Peak, James Peak, and Ben Nevis to Ben Cruachan; thence easterly through Mount Edward to Mount Rosa; thence by a right line to the confluence of the Nevis and Kawarau Rivers; thence down the Kawarau River to its junction with the Roaring Meg Stream; thence up the Roaring Meg Stream to its source on Mount Pisa; thence by a right line to the summit of Mount Pisa; thence by a right line northerly to the south-eastern corner of Block I, Lower Wanaka Survey District; thence northerly along the eastern boundary of the said Block I to the north-eastern corner of the said Block I; thence due west along the northern boundary of Block I aforesaid to the Cardrona River; thence down the Cardrona and up the Clutha River to Lake Wanaka; thence up the centre of Lake Wanaka to the mouth of the Wilkin River; thence up the centre of the Wilkin River to the foot of a spur leading to Mount Kuri; thence by a right line to Mount Kuri, from Mount Kuri to the summit of the Southern Alps, and by the Southern Alps to Governor’s Pass, the place of commencement.
SECOND SCHEDULE.
LICENSE.

The Fisheries Act, 1908, and its Amendments.
THE holder of this license [Name in full], of [Address, calling or occupation] having this day paid the sum of £1 is hereby authorized to fish with one rod and line for trout, tench, and perch within the Otago Acclimatization District (excepting Lake Hawea, its tributary rivers, and Lake Wanaka, its tributary rivers, and the Hawea River) from the 1st day of October, 19 , to the 30th day of April, 19 (both inclusive), and in Lake Hawea, its tributary rivers, and Lake Wanaka, its tributary rivers, and the Hawea River from the 1st day of November, 19 , to the 31st day of May, 19 (both inclusive), subject to the said Act and the regulations made thereunder.
