Provided that, where in the Class D Examination a certificate of practical work or a practical test is prescribed, the candidate may be required further to satisfy the necessary condition.
- Clause 26 is hereby amended by deleting therefrom all the words after the words “shall take one additional subject from Group III.”
II. APPEALS OF TEACHERS AGAINST THEIR CLASSIFICATION OR GRADING.
The regulations relating to appeals of teachers against their classification or grading made by Order in Council dated 13th June, 1921, and subsequently amended by Orders in Council dated 10th October, 1921, 31st July, 1922, and 7th November, 1923, are hereby further amended by the addition of the following subclause to clause 5:—
“ (2) Without the authority of the Director, no evidence heard by, or information given to, the Appeal Board during the hearing of any appeal shall be published either directly or indirectly, or otherwise communicated to any person or persons who were not present at the hearing of such appeal.”
III. PROBATIONERS.
The regulations relating to probationers made by Order in Council dated 22nd March, 1926, are hereby amended as follows:—

Subclause (2) of clause 4 is hereby amended by deleting the second proviso thereto.

Subclause (1) of clause 10 is hereby deleted and the following substituted therefor:—
(1) (a) The appointment of every probationer shall be regarded as probationary. His engagement shall be terminable by the Board on one month’s notice for any of the following reasons:—
(i) If the probationer does not after trial show reasonable promise of suitability for the teaching profession:
(ii) If he fails to obtain a satisfactory report as to his diligence and behaviour from the head teacher of the school in which he is employed:
(iii) If he fails to pass any examination prescribed:
(iv) If he is unfavourably reported on by an Inspector of Schools:
(v) If it shall be reported by a School Medical Officer at any time during his probationary service that his health is such as to render him unsuitable as a teacher:
(vi) If it should become known to the Board that he does not intend to continue his training as a teacher.
(b) For gross negligence, incompetence, disobedience, or immoral conduct a probationer shall be liable to summary dismissal without claim on the Board.
- Subclause (1) of clause 13 is hereby amended by deleting all the words after the word “required,” and substituting therefor the words “to make progress in their studies to the satisfaction of the Senior Inspector of Schools for the district.”
IV. FREE PLACES.
The regulations relating to free places in secondary schools, district high schools, technical high schools, and technical schools and classes made by Order in Council dated 19th December, 1922, and amended by Orders in Council dated 9th July, 1923, 10th September, 1923, 1st September, 1924, and 1st November, 1926, are hereby amended as follows:—
- Clause 3 is hereby amended:
(1) By deleting the proviso to subclause (a).
(2) By deleting the last paragraph of subclause (c).
(3) By adding the following new subclause:—
(e) He has obtained a certificate of competency in the subjects of the Sixth Standard with special merit in handwork or elementary science, provided that such pupil shall take a course of instruction that has been approved by an Inspector of Schools, and provided further that he shall not be admitted to any secondary school unless such school has been approved for this purpose by the Director.

Clause 4 (ii) is hereby amended by inserting the words “or (e)” after the words “under (c).”

Clause 5 is hereby amended:—
(1) By deleting the words “(a), (b), or (c)” from subclauses (1) and (2) and substituting therefor the words “(a), (b), (c), or (e)” in each case.
(2) By deleting subclause (3) and substituting the following therefor:—
“ (3) Notwithstanding the provisions of subclauses (1) and (2) hereof, where the qualification is obtained under (b), (c), (d), or (e) of clause 3 hereof, and the holder has, prior to entry upon his free place, completed a course of
