THE following result of election of members of a River Board has been received from the Returning Officer, and is published in accordance with the provisions of the River Boards Amendment Act, 1913.

Results of Election of Trustees of a Drainage District.

Notice of Intention to take Land in Blocks IX and XIII, Kawhia South Survey District, for the Purposes of a Road.

NOTICE is hereby given that it is proposed, under the provisions of the Public Works Act, 1908, to execute a certain public work—to wit, the construction of a road, and for the purposes of such public work the land described in the Schedule hereto is required to be taken. And notice is hereby further given that the plan of the land so required to be taken is deposited in the Post-office at Te Anga, and is there open for inspection; and that all persons affected by the execution of the said public work or by the taking of the said land should, if they have any well-grounded objections to the execution of the said public work or to the taking of such land, set forth the same in writing, and send such writing, within forty days from the first publication of this notice, to the Minister of Public Works, at Wellington.

APPROXIMATE areas of the pieces of land required to be taken :—

All situated in Survey District of Kawhia South (Auckland R.D.) (S.O. 24030.)

All in the Auckland Land District; as the same are more particularly delineated on the plan marked P.W.D. 66227, deposited in the office of the Minister of Public Works, at Wellington, in the Wellington Land District, and thereon coloured as above mentioned.

Education Act, 1914.—General Council of Education.

Education Department,
Wellington, 4th May, 1927.

IT is hereby notified that for the purposes of the election of members of the General Council of Education representing the teachers in secondary and technical schools nominations will be received by the Returning Officer up till 5 p.m. on the 16th May, 1927, in the form prescribed by regulation dated 27th February, 1915, and shown below. No person shall be eligible for election unless he is nominated by at least two electors entitled to vote for his election. If necessary to hold an election such election will be held on the 30th May 1927, and the poll will close at 5 o’clock on that day. Ballot-papers containing a list of all the duly nominated candidates for election will be posted to each elector entitled to vote. The rolls for the election shall be closed on the 16th May, 1927, and shall remain closed until the election is completed. The number of members to be elected is as follows: One member by male teachers in secondary and technical schools; one member by women teachers in secondary and technical schools.

SOUTH PACIFIC OCEAN.—FIJI ISLANDS.—VITI LEVU.

Curacoa Rock.—Beacon established.

Position.—On the rock. Lat 17° 46′ S., long. 177° 18′ E. (approx.).

Details.—A concrete pile beacon has been established to mark the rock; further information regarding its exact position is not available. The note “Beacon” is to be inserted against the rock on the charts.

(974.) SOUTH PACIFIC OCEAN.—MALDEN ISLAND.

Non-existence of Shoal north-eastward.

The master of the American schooner yacht “Fisherman” reports that at 8 a.m. on 7th December, 1926, his vessel sailed over the position of the shoal reported in the year 1900, about 35 miles north-east from Malden Island, in latitude 3° 40′ S., longitude 154° 38′ W., on H.O. Chart 824A. A good look-out was kept from the masthead, but no shoal or any obstruction was seen. Observations were very good and chronometer was checked by radio. (See Notice to Mariners 31 No. 857 of 1900.)

Position.—On the summit of the Island. Lat. 13° 59′ S. long. 171° 22′ W. (approx.) on chart No. 1730.

Details.—This light is obscured from 010° to 075°.
