CHARLES FERGUSSON, Governor-General.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.

At the Government Buildings at Wellington, this 26th day of April, 1927.

Present:

THE RIGHT HONOURABLE J. G. COATES, P.C., PRESIDING IN COUNCIL.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers conferred on him by the Education Act, 1914, and the amendments of that Act, and of all other powers enabling him in this behalf, His Excellency the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said Dominion, doth hereby amend in the manner set forth in the Schedule hereto the regulations made by Order in Council of the twenty-seventh day of January, one thousand nine hundred and twenty-seven, relating to the Intermediate Examination, and, with the like advice and consent, doth prescribe that this Order shall come into force on the date of publication thereof in the New Zealand Gazette.

SCHEDULE.

THE regulations for the Intermediate Examination are hereby amended by deleting clause 3 and substituting in lieu thereof the following:—

Candidates’ Notices.

  1. Every candidate for the Intermediate Examination must give notice to sit for such examination. Such notice must be on the form provided, and must be addressed to the Director of Education, and sent so as to be delivered at the office of the Education Department, Wellington, not later than the 8th day of September preceding the examination. All such notices shall include the names of the optional subjects selected by the candidate.

Those candidates who are recommended for a Senior Free Place under the provisions of clause 7 (c) of the regulations relating to free places, as amended by Order in Council of the 1st November, 1926, shall, if required to sit for examination, be admitted without fee. Otherwise, each candidate’s application must be accompanied by a receipt for the payment of 10s. at some money-order office of the Post and Telegraph Department of New Zealand. Any such fee paid will be refunded to those of the candidates who pass the examination and who, within two months of the date of publication of the results of the examination, are certified by the Principal of a secondary school, technical school, or district high school to have entered upon a senior free place as a result of passing the examination.

These provisions notwithstanding, late applications received after the 8th day of September and on or before the 22nd day of September may be accepted by the Education Department, provided that the application is in each case accompanied by a receipt for a late fee of 10s., paid at some money-order office of the Post and Telegraph Department of New Zealand.

F. D. THOMSON,
Clerk of the Executive Council.
