falls below the minimum average attendance of the grade or subgrade in which the school is placed to such an extent as to satisfy the Board or the Minister that the grade or subgrade of the school will be raised or reduced, and a position on the staff of such school thereafter becomes vacant, the grade of salary for such position shall, as from the date of such vacancy, be the grade of salary that would be attached to the position if the school were graded on the increased or reduced average attendance.”

Teachers’ Salaries.—Clause 19 of the said regulations is hereby revoked; and the following substituted therefor:—
“19. (1) Subject to the provisions of the next succeeding subclause, every teacher shall be entitled to be paid only in respect of the following periods:—
“(a) The period commencing on the school day on which he enters upon his duties and ending on the school day on which his duties cease, including any holidays that may intervene between those dates:
“(b) Any period of school holidays that may immediately succeed the day on which his duties cease as aforesaid; in the case of the mid-summer holidays such period shall be deemed to end not later than the 31st day of January in any year:
“(c) The period necessarily occupied in transferring from one position to another.
“(2) The last preceding subclause shall be read subject to the following special provisions, namely:—
“(a) A teacher who enters upon his duties during the first week in February in any year may be paid from the 1st day of February, inclusive, in that year.
“(b) A teacher who, during any year ending on the 31st day of January, has been on leave without pay for a period or periods exceeding in the aggregate five school days, shall be entitled to be paid only for such part of the school holidays during that year as is equal to one-fourth of his period of service as hereinafter defined.
“(3) Notwithstanding anything in paragraph (b) of the last preceding subclause, the Minister may in any case authorize the payment of salary in respect of the whole period of holidays or in respect of a greater portion of those holidays than is therein provided for.
“(4) For the purposes of paragraph (b) of subclause (2) hereof, a teacher’s period of service shall comprise the actual period spent in teaching, together with any period during which the teacher has been on leave with full pay or half pay, but does not include any period of school holidays or any other period.” -
Clause 20 of the said regulations is hereby amended by adding the following subclause:—
“(4) When a teacher holding a temporary position is permanently appointed to the same position he shall receive, from the date of such permanent appointment, a salary computed in accordance with clause 4 hereof (but not less in any case than his salary as a temporary teacher), together with the addition to his salary provided for by clause 5 hereof.” -
Clause 36 of the said regulations is hereby amended by inserting after the word “authorize” the words “or direct.”
PART III. AMENDING REGULATIONS AS TO LEAVE OF ABSENCE OF TEACHERS.

In this Part of these regulations, the expression “the said regulations” means the regulations relating to leave of absence of teachers (as appearing in an Order in Council dated the 12th day of December, 1924, and published in the Gazette of the 18th day of December, 1924).

Clause 4 of the said regulations is hereby amended—
(a) By omitting from subclause (1) thereof the first three lines of the table of leave of absence set out therein and substituting the following:—
Under 3 months .. 5 school days.
Over 3 months and under 6 months .. 10 ,,
Over 6 months and under 9 months .. 20 ,,
(b) By revoking the proviso to subclause (4) thereof.
(c) By adding the following subclause:—
“(8) The period during which any teacher is on leave of absence and any adjustment of salary consequent thereon shall be computed in such manner as the Minister shall determine.”
