Now, therefore, I, General Sir Charles Fergusson, Baronet, Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the powers conferred by section one hundred and six of the said Act, and of all other powers and authorities in anyway enabling me in this behalf, do hereby close the road hereinafter described; and I do hereby declare that the land comprised in the said road shall thereafter become subject to the Land for Settlements Act, 1925.

Opening Settlement Lands in Wellington Land District for Selection.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the Land Act, 1924, and the Land for Settlements Act, 1925, I, General Sir Charles Fergusson, Baronet, Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby declare that the settlement lands described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for selection on renewable lease on Friday, the twenty-first day of January, one thousand nine hundred and twenty-seven, at the rentals mentioned in the said Schedule; and I do also declare that the said lands shall be leased under and subject to the provisions of the said Acts.

SCHEDULE.

WELLINGTON LAND DISTRICT.—SETTLEMENT LAND. — FIRST-CLASS LAND.

Hutt County.—Belmont Survey District.—Waddington Settlement.

Section 16s : Area, 7 acres 3 roods 36 perches. Capital value, £750 ; £350.* Half-yearly rent, £18 15s. ; £13 13s.†

  • Buildings.

† Half-yearly instalment of principal and interest on buildings, consisting of a four-roomed dwelling and outbuildings, valued at £350, which amount is payable in cash or in twenty-one years by forty-two half-yearly instalments of £13 13s. ; total half-yearly payment on lease, £32 8s.

This property is situated in the Waddington Settlement, three miles from the Lower Hutt Railway-station. Comprises flat land, all in grass, excepting 1 acre in gorse. Subdivided into four paddocks.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by section one hundred and sixty-one of the Land Act, 1924, I, General Sir Charles Fergusson, Baronet, Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby set apart the land described in the Schedule hereto for disposal under the section of the Act mentioned.

Vesting the Control of a Scenic Reserve in the Pelorus Bridge Scenic Board.

CHARLES FERGUSSON, Governor-General.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon him by section thirteen of the Scenery Preservation Act, 1908, His Excellency the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand doth hereby vest the control of the reserve described in the Schedule hereto (being land reserved under the said Act) for the period of five years from the date hereof (unless previously altered or revoked under the said Act), in the undermentioned persons, namely,—

The Commissioner of Crown Lands, Blenheim, ex officio,
The Mayor of Blenheim, ex officio,
The Mayor of Nelson, ex officio,
The Chairman, Marlborough County Council, ex officio,
The President, Marlborough Automobile Association, ex officio,
Mark Walton Grace, and
Charles William Jeffries-Bryant,

who are hereby constituted for that purpose a special Board by the name of the Pelorus Bridge Scenic Board (herein referred to as “the Board”), in trust, for the preservation of scenery, and with the powers and subject to the conditions hereinafter contained, that is to say,—

  1. The first meeting of the Board shall be held on Tuesday, the thirtieth day of November, one thousand nine hundred and twenty-six, at two o’clock p.m., in the Lands and Survey Office, Blenheim, and thereafter the Board shall meet for the transaction of business on the third Monday in each quarter at the time and place aforesaid, or at such other time or place as may from time to time be fixed by the Board.

  2. The Commissioner of Crown Lands shall be the Chairman of the Board. He may join in the discussion, and shall have an original as well as a casting vote.

  3. Special meetings may be convened by the Chairman, provided that two days’ notice of such meeting is given to each member, specifying the business to be transacted at such special meeting; and no other business than that so specified shall be transacted at such meeting.

  4. Any three members of the Board shall form a quorum. Any meeting may be adjourned from time to time.

  5. All questions shall be determined by the majority of votes of the members of the Board present at the meeting.

  6. If at any meeting the Chairman is not present at the time appointed for holding the same, the members present shall choose one of their number to be chairman for such meeting.

  7. If, by resignation, death, incapacity, or otherwise, the seat of any member shall be or become vacant, or if any member absents himself, without reasonable cause, from three consecutive meetings of the Board, the Governor-General shall have power to appoint any other person to be a member of the Board in his stead.

  8. The Board may, with the approval of the Minister in Charge of Scenery Preservation, make such rules as it deems necessary for the good conduct of the public frequenting the reserve, and may set apart areas for camping-grounds or other purposes, and may fix reasonable charges for the use thereof in accordance with a scale to be approved from time to time by the Minister.

  9. The Board shall prepare and submit at an annual meeting to be held in the month of April in each year a report of the proceedings of the Board for the previous year ending on the thirty-first day of March, together with a statement of the receipts and expenditure of the Board for such year. A copy of every such report and statement, certified by the Chairman to be correct, shall be sent to the Minister in Charge of Scenery Preservation as soon as possible after each annual meeting.

  10. The Board shall control the said reserve in accordance with the provisions of the said Act and of the regulations made thereunder.
