✨ Fire Brigade By-laws and Boundary Alterations




(14.) Every member is required to obey all orders given by
persons placed in authority over him, and also
strictly to comply with all orders and regulations
made by the Board and entered in the Superintendent's order-book.

(15.) In the absence of the Superintendent at any fire the
Deputy-Superintendent shall assume the command
of all officers and men attending such fire, including
volunteer and private brigades, and all officers and
men are required to work under his order.

(16.) In the absence of both the Superintendent and
Deputy-Superintendent, the senior foreman in
charge shall have all the powers and duties herein-
before conferred and imposed on the Superintendent.

(17.) Any permanent member absenting himself without
leave of the Superintendent from any fire or alarm
shall, at the sole discretion of the Superintendent,
either be fined any sum not exceeding Β£1 or be dis-
missed, and in case of dismissal he shall forfeit all
pay that may be accruing to him, not exceeding Β£5.

(18.) No member under any pretence whatever shall leave
the locality of a fire without the instruction or per-
mission of the officer in charge of the fire.

(19.) No member shall be allowed to take any intoxicating
liquors or smoke while on duty without permission
from the officer in charge at a fire, or practice, or
other duties.

(20.) No member shall be entitled to any pay during the
period he may remain under suspension from duty
unless the Board on investigation of the circum-
stances acquit him from blame in the matter.

(21.) Unless otherwise provided, two weeks' written notice
given on either side shall terminate the agreement
for service.

(22.) Any member being desirous of absenting himself from
the city for any reason must first obtain leave from
the Superintendent, and should the Superintendent
so desire the member must provide a substitute
during such absence, and payment of the substitute
must be made by the member.

(23.) The Superintendent may grant leave of absence at
any time to such number of the men as the Board
may approve.

AUXILIARY MEMBERS OF THE BRIGADE.

Italics Conditions of Service.

  1. The conditions of service for the auxiliary members of
    the brigade shall be as hereunder set out, and such conditions
    of service shall be signed by every officer and member on
    entering the service of the Board:

(1.) Every member shall reside at the station or within
such easy distance therefrom as the Superintendent
may approve.

(2.) Every member in the employ of the Board will be
supplied with suitable uniform and accoutrements,
for the safety, cleanliness, good order, and repair of
which the member will be held responsible. Such
uniform, boots, and accoutrements remain and are
the property of the Board, and may be worn only
when the members are on duty. Any member wil-
fully damaging or disposing of all or any portion
thereof will be liable to be prosecuted.

(3.) Every member on joining the brigade is required to
make himself acquainted with the by-laws and regu-
lations in force, and also with such drills and orders
as may be made from time to time by the Board of
the superintendent.

(4.) Every member is required to obey all lawful orders
given by persons placed in authority over him, and
also strictly to comply with all regulations and orders
issued by the Board or the Superintendent and
entered in the order-book.

(5.) No member, under any pretence whatever, is permitted
to leave the locality of a fire without the instruction
or permission of the officer in charge at the fire.

(6.) Members shall not be allowed to take any intoxicating
liquors or smoke while on duty without permission
from the officer in charge of a fire, or practice, or
other duties.

(7.) Any member guilty of negligence or misconduct, whe-
ther on duty or not, or found in such a state as to
unfit him to perform the duties required, may, at
the discretion of the Superintendent, be suspended
for the time being, and in extreme cases may be
summarily dismissed the service.

(8.) Auxiliary members of the brigade are to be in uniform
and report themselves for duty in the occurrence-
book at 7 p.m. on alternate nights in each week.
Members being absent from duty, unless with special
permission, will be considered unsuitable for the
Board's service.

(9.) Any member absenting himself from the city from any
cause must consult the Superintendent, and should
the Superintendent so desire, the member must pro-
vide a substitute during such absence, and payment
of the substitute must be made by the member.

(10.) Members working at fires during the ordinary work-
ing-hours, or in the time necessary to prepare for
their daily duties, shall receive additional pay at the
rate of 2s. 6d. per hour or part of an hour. These
payments will only apply to work done between the
hours of 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.

The Auckland Fire Board hereby agrees to engage each
person signing these by-laws, as paid members of the Auckland
Fire Brigade, on the terms and conditions set forth in
such by-laws, and each person so signing accepts his engage-
ment upon these terms and conditions, and agrees to abide
by and perform and operate the same accordingly.

The common seal of the Auckland Fire Board was affixed
to the foregoing by-laws this 29th day of April, 1926.

The foregoing by-laws were duly made by the Auckland
Fire Board by resolution of the Board passed at a meeting
of the Board convened for that purpose on the 28th day of
April, 1926, and submitted to the Minister charged for the
time being with the administration of the Fire Brigades Act,
1908.

The foregoing by-laws of the Auckland Fire Board are
approved this 26th day of May, 1926.

Notice respecting Proposed Alteration of Boundaries, Borough of Upper Hutt.

Department of Internal Affairs,
Wellington, 24th May, 1926.

IT is hereby notified that a petition has been presented
to His Excellency the Governor-General, under the
Municipal Corporations Act, 1920, praying that the area
described in the Schedule hereto may be excluded from the
Borough of Upper Hutt and included in the County of Hutt.
All persons affected are hereby called upon to lodge any written
objections to or petitions against the proposed alteration of
boundaries which they desire to lodge within one month from
the first publication of this notice, such objections or petitions
to be addressed to the Minister of Internal Affairs, Wellington.

SCHEDULE.

AREA PROPOSED TO BE EXCLUDED FROM BOROUGH OF UPPER HUTT.

All that area in the Wellington Land District, being parts of
Sections 89 and 90, Hutt Registration District, bounded by a
line commencing at a point on the left bank of the Hutt River
being the north-western corner of the land shown in Deeds
conveyance 232, folio 381, deposited in the office of the District
Land Registrar at Wellington, thence north-easterly along the
said left bank to the north-eastern corner of the said land;
thence southerly along the eastern boundary of the said land
to the northern boundary of the land shown on Deeds convey-
ance 232, folio 380; thence easterly, southerly, westerly,
southerly, and again westerly to the eastern boundary of the
land shown on Deeds conveyance 232, folio 381; thence
southerly along that boundary and the eastern boundary of the
land shown on Deeds conveyance 232, folio 382, to the Main
Hutt Road; thence westerly along that road to the western
boundary of the last-mentioned land; thence northerly along
its western boundary to the southern boundary of the land
shown on Deeds conveyance 232, folio 381; thence westerly
along that boundary to the south-western corner of the last-
mentioned land; thence along the western boundary of that
land to the Hutt River, the point of commencement.
