Regulations for the New Zealand Military Forces, 1913, amended.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authority conferred on me by the Defence Act, 1909, and its amendments, I, General Sir Charles Fergusson, Baronet, Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby amend in the manner and to the extent set forth in the Schedule hereto the Regulations for the Military Forces of New Zealand, 1913, and I do hereby declare that the amendments hereby made shall take effect from date of publication thereof in the Gazette.

SCHEDULE.

  1. PARAGRAPH 92 is hereby revoked, and the following substituted :-

“92. Appointments to Commissions in the New Zealand Medical Corps, New Zealand Dental Corps, and the New Zealand Veterinary Corps, will normally be made in the rank of Lieutenant, by selection, and without examination, from registered practitioners who are below the age of forty years.”

  1. Paragraph 116, as amended by the New Zealand Gazette of the 9th January, 1919, is hereby revoked.

  2. Paragraph 113A, as published in the Gazette dated 25th March, 1926, is hereby revoked, and the following substituted :-

“113A. No officer below the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel will, except under special authority from the G.O.C., be promoted until he has served for periods as set out below, has passed the qualifying examination, and, except in the cases of officers of the New Zealand Medical Corps, the New Zealand Dental Corps, and the New Zealand Veterinary Corps, has attended a course of six successive days and gained a satisfactory report thereat :-

“Lieutenant: After two years’ efficient service as 2nd Lieutenant.

“Captain: After three years’ efficient service as Lieutenant.

“Major: After five years’ efficient service as Captain.”

As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor-General, this 31st day of May, 1926.

Appointments, Promotions, Resignations, and Transfers of Officers of the Staff and N.Z. Military Forces.

HIS Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased to approve of the appointments, promotions, resignations, and transfers of officers of the Staff and N.Z. Military Forces.

STAFF.

Lieutenant S. F. Allen, N.Z. Staff Corps, relinquishes the appointment of Area Officer, 10B, is appointed Adjutant, 1st Battalion, Canterbury Regiment, and retains the appointment of Adjutant, Southern Depot, Corps of N.Z. Engineers. Dated 31st May, 1926.

Captain K. J. Walker (N.Z. Staff Corps) relinquishes the appointment of Adjutant, 1st Battalion, Canterbury Regiment, is appointed Area Officer, 10B, and retains the appointment of Adjutant, 1st N.Z. Mounted Rifles (Canterbury Yeomanry Cavalry). Dated 31st May, 1926.

COMMANDS.

Lieutenant-Colonel N. R. Wilson, D.S.O., M.C. (the Canterbury Regiment) relinquishes command of the 1st Battalion, and is transferred to the Reserve of Officers, Class I (b) R.D. 10. Dated 5th May, 1926.

Lieutenant-Colonel L. M. Inglis, M.C. (the Canterbury Regiment) is appointed to command the 1st Battalion. Dated 6th May, 1926.

THE REGIMENT OF NEW ZEALAND ARTILLERY.

2nd Lieutenant C. T. Leggett (18th Medium Battery) is transferred to the Auckland Regiment (Countess of Ranfurly’s Own). Dated 12th May, 1926.

Guy Richardson Powles to be 2nd Lieutenant, 19th Medium Battery. Dated 4th May, 1926.

Albert Neil Smith to be 2nd Lieutenant, 11th Field Battery. Dated 11th May, 1926.

THE N.Z. INFANTRY.

The Auckland Regiment (Countess of Ranfurly’s Own).

2nd Lieutenant F. D. Hamilton (1st C. Battalion) is transferred to the Wellington Regiment. Dated 10th May, 1926.

2nd Lieutenant C. T. Leggett, from the Regiment of N.Z. Artillery, to be 2nd Lieutenant, 1st C. Battalion. Dated 12th May, 1926.

The Hauraki Regiment.

Captain A. S. Hogg, from the Hawke’s Bay Regiment, to be Captain, 1st C. Battalion, with seniority as from the 3rd August, 1925.

Lieutenant F. G. Platt (2nd C. Battalion) is transferred to the 1st Battalion, with seniority as from the 17th August, 1922.

2nd Lieutenant E. W. Newton, from the Reserve of Officers, to be 2nd Lieutenant, 1st Battalion. Dated 13th May, 1926.

The Wellington Regiment.

Lieutenant F. E. Dornwell, from the Reserve of Officers, to be Lieutenant, 1st Battalion. Dated 11th May, 1926.

Lieutenant G. S. Kirker (2nd C. Battalion) is transferred to the 1st Battalion, with seniority as from the 24th February, 1925.

2nd Lieutenant F. D. Hamilton, from the Auckland Regiment (Countess of Ranfurly’s Own), to be 2nd Lieutenant, 1st Battalion, with seniority as from the 11th August, 1924.

2nd Lieutenant C. C. T. Harris (1st Battalion) is transferred to the Hawke’s Bay Regiment. Dated 10th May, 1926.

2nd Lieutenant H. A. Lowe (1st Battalion) resigns his commission. Dated 12th May, 1926.

The undermentioned to be 2nd Lieutenants, 1st Battalion. Dated 11th May, 1926.

Walter Vernon Roy Fletcher to be 2nd Lieutenant, 3rd C. Battalion. Dated 12th May, 1926.

Captain E. J. J. Welch to be Quartermaster, with the rank of Major, 1st Battalion. Dated 10th May, 1926.

2nd Lieutenant E. B. Butcher (1st C. Battalion) is transferred to the Otago Regiment. Dated 12th May, 1926.

2nd Lieutenant C. C. T. Harris, from the Wellington Regiment, to be 2nd Lieutenant, 3rd C. Battalion, with seniority as from the 12th November, 1924.
