N.Z. CHAPLAINS DEPARTMENT.

The seniority of the Right Reverend Archbishop Alfred Walter Averill, Chaplain to the Forces 2nd Class, is ante-dated to 22nd December, 1916.

Captain J. W. Silcock is posted to the Retired List under the provisions of G.O. 184/21, with permission to retain his rank and wear the prescribed uniform. Dated 9th March, 1926.

Applying the Provisions of Section 109 of the Public Works Act, 1908, to the Section of the Dunedin-Invercargill Main Highway from the North-eastern Boundary of Section 44, near the Intersection of Short Street, Koremata, to its Intersection with Thompson Street.

WHEREAS it is provided by section 7 of the Main Highways Amendment Act, 1925, that the Minister of Public Works may, on the recommendation of the Main Highways Board (hereinafter referred to as “the Board”), by notice in the Gazette, declare that the provisions of section 109 of the Public Works Act, 1908, in so far as it provides for the apportionment of the cost of maintenance, repair, or reconstruction of any part of a main highway, shall apply with respect to the apportionment of the cost of maintenance, repair, or reconstruction of any part of a main highway in so far as such cost is not provided for out of the Main Highways Account:

And whereas on the 2nd day of March, 1926, the Board resolved as follows:—

“That, subject to the Honourable Minister of Public Works approving of the declaration of the continuation of the Dunedin-Invercargill Main Highway through the Green Island Borough as a main highway, he be recommended to apply the provisions of section 109 of the Public Works Act to the section of the said main highway from the north-eastern boundary of Section 44, near the intersection of Short Street, Koremata, to its intersection with Thompson Street”:

Now, therefore, I, Joseph Gordon Coates, Minister of Public Works, in pursuance and exercise of the powers conferred by the said section 7 and of every other power in anywise enabling me in this behalf, do hereby declare that the provisions of section 109 of the Public Works Act, 1908, in so far as they provide for the apportionment of the cost of maintenance, repair, or reconstruction, shall apply with respect to the apportionment of the cost of maintenance, repair, or reconstruction of the section of the Dunedin-Invercargill Main Highway from the north-eastern boundary of Section 44, near the intersection of Short Street, Koremata, to its intersection with Thompson Street.

Notice of Intention to take Land for Scenic Purposes in Block XV, Akatarawa Survey District.

NOTICE is hereby given that it is proposed, under the provisions of the Public Works Act, 1908, the Scenery Preservation Act, 1908, and the Scenery Preservation Amendment Act, 1910, to take the land described in the Schedule hereto for scenic purposes:

And notice is hereby further given that the plan of the land so required to be taken is deposited in the post-office at Kaitoke, and is there open for inspection; and that all persons affected by the taking of the said land should, if they have any well-grounded objections to the taking of such land, set forth the same in writing, and send such writing, within forty days from the first publication of this notice, to the Minister of Public Works at Wellington.

SCHEDULE.

APPROXIMATE area of the piece of land required to be taken: 52 acres.

Being part Section 420, situated in Block XV, Akatarawa Survey District (Hutt R.D.)

In the Wellington Land District; as the same is more particularly delineated on the plan marked P.W.D. 65773, deposited in the office of the Minister of Public Works at Wellington, in the Wellington Land District, and thereon bordered red.

Classification of Roads in the Waitemata County.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers conferred on me by the Motor-lorry Regulations, 1925, and the Motor-lorry Regulations, Amendment No. 1, I, Joseph Gordon Coates, Minister of Public Works, do hereby alter the Waitemata County Council’s proposed classification or roads, and do hereby approve of such altered classification as set forth in the Schedule hereto.

SCHEDULE.

CLASSIFICATION OF ROADS IN THE WAITEMATA COUNTY.

Road classified in the first class (available for the use thereon of any motor-lorry)—

Helensville–Auckland Main Highway; Avondale to Henderson Town District boundary.

Road classified in the second class (available for the use thereon of any motor-lorry which, with the maximum load it is licensed to carry, weighs not more than 8 tons)—

New Lynn – Titirangi Road, as far as Bishop’s Kiosk.

Roads classified in the fourth class (available for the use thereon of any motor-lorry which, with the maximum load it is licensed to carry, weighs not more than 4 tons—

Albany–Wainui Main Highway from Birkenhead Borough boundary to Foley’s garage; Takapuna–Northcote Road; Pupuke Road; Northcote–Birkenhead (Oneroa Road); Takapuna–Redvale Road; Old Wade Road; Sunnybrae Road; Archer’s Road; Henderson Town District to Helensville Main Highway; Kumeu–Riverhead Road; Titirangi Road from Exhibition Drive intersection to Whatipu Bridge; Portage Road; Golf Road; West Lynn Road; East Lynn Road; Archibald Road; Pleasant Road; Glen Eden – Oratia–Nihotupu Road; Henderson South Road; Henderson Valley Road; Te Atatu Main Road; Henderson – Swanson Road; Swanson–Waitakere Road; Waitakere–Taupaki–Kumeu Road; Nelson Road; Waimauku – West Coast Road; Waimauku–Waikoukou Road; Parkhurst Road; Hobsonville Main Road.
