Special Order made by the Whangarei County Council altering
Riding Boundaries and adjusting Representation.

THE following special order, made by the Whangarei
County Council, is published in accordance with the
provisions of the Counties Act, 1920.

Pursuant to section 100 of that Act, as amended by sec-
tion 3 of the Counties Amendment Act, 1921-22, I hereby
fix the 31st day of March, 1926, as the date from which the
special order shall take effect.

WHANGAREI COUNTY COUNCIL.

Special Order.

(a.) Increasing number of ridings in the county by the
division of the present riding of Mangapai into two
ridings.

(b.) Adjustment of representation in the Council.
(c.) Altering riding boundary.

In pursuance of the powers conferred on it by the Counties
Act, 1920, the Whangarei County Council hereby resolves
by the way of special order as follows:-

(a.) Number of Ridings.-The present division of the County
of Whangarei into nine ridings be revoked, and in lieu thereof
the said county be divided into ten ridings, to be called
respectively-(1) Hikurangi Riding, (2) Kiripaka Riding,
(3) Maunu Riding, (4) Mangakahia Riding, (5) Mangapai
Riding, (6) Maungakaramea Riding, (7) Manaia Riding,
(8) Otonga Riding, (9) Wairua Riding, (10) Waipu Riding.

(b.) Representation.-The said Council of the Whangarei
County shall consist of ten members, who shall be elected as
follows:-

(1.) The electors of Hikurangi shall elect one Councillor.
(2.) The electors of Kiripaka shall elect one Councillor.
(3.) The electors of Maunu shall elect one Councillor.
(4.) The electors of Mangakahia shall elect one Councillor.
(5.) The electors of Mangapai shall elect one Councillor.
(6) The electors of Maungakaramea shall elect one Coun-
cillor.

(7.) The electors of Manaia shall elect one Councillor.
(8.) The electors of Otonga shall elect one Councillor.
(9.) The electors of Wairua shall elect one Councillor.
(10.) The electors of Waipu shall elect one Councillor.

(c.) Alteration of Ridings, Whangarei County.-The Maunu
and Mangapai Ridings at present constituted be abolished,
and three new ridings constituted in place thereof:-

Area to be excluded from Maunu Riding and included in
the new Maungakaramea Riding : All that area in the North
Auckland Land District, situated in the County of Whangarei,
bounded, commencing at the north-western corner of Lot 7
of Kioreroa Block (high-school endowment), towards the
west by the Toketaruna Block to the middle of Raumanga
River ; and by the middle of that river to the Whangarei
Borough boundary as described in the New Zealand Gazette,
1923, page 850; thence by the Whangarei Borough boundary
to the Whangarei Harbour; thence by the Whangarei Har-
bour and the Mangapai Riding as described in New Zealand
Gazette, 1914, page 2646, to the point of commencement.

Maunu Riding : All that area in the North Auckland Land
District, situated in the County of Whangarei, bounded,
commencing at a point being the intersection of the right
bank of the Wairua River with the south-western boundary
of the County of Whangarei, towards the north-west by said
right bank of the Wairua River to a point in line with the
right bank of the Mangere River ; thence by a right line across
Wairua River aforesaid to and by the right bank of the Mangere
River aforesaid to the north-western corner of Allotment 20,
Kaitara Parish: thence towards the north by Allotment
R. 19, Kaitara Parish, to and across the abutment of a public

road, by Allotment 18, Kaitara Parish aforesaid, to and
across a public road, and by Allotment 42 of the aforesaid
parish to the easternmost corner of Allotment 23B, Kaitara
Parish aforesaid ; thence by a right line to the westernmost
corner of Pukemiro Block ; thence towards the north-east
by Pukemiro Block aforesaid and by Allotments 55 and 52,
Whangarei Parish, to and across the abutment of a public
road, by Allotment 76 of the aforesaid parish to and by a
public road to the westernmost corner of Allotment S. 77,
Whangarei Parish aforesaid, and by the southern boundary
of that allotment to the Borough of Whangarei as described
in New Zealand Gazette, 1923, page 850 ; thence southerly
along the boundary of Borough of Whangarei aforesaid to
middle of the Raumanga River ; thence by the middle of that
river to a point in line with the eastern boundary of Toki
taruna Block ; thence by a right line to and by the eastern
boundary aforesaid to the westernmost corner of Lot 7 of
Kioreroa Block (high-school endowment); thence by that
lot to and by the north-western boundary of Ruarangi Block
to its westernmost corner ; thence by a right line to the north-
western corner of Otaia A No. 1 Block ; thence by the western
boundary of that block to and by the Otaika Stream to its
confluence with Otakairanga Stream ; thence by that stream
to and across a public road, and again by that stream to and
by a public road which forms the northern boundary of Allot-
ments 86, 85, 84, 83, Maungatapere Parish, to the southern-
most corner of Allotment 75 of the aforesaid parish ; thence
by a right line across said public road to the north-western
corner of Allotment 83, Maungatapere Parish aforesaid ;
thence by the western boundaries of Allotments 83, 104 of
aforesaid parish, to the south-eastern corner of Allotment 152
of aforesaid parish ; thence by a right line to the north-
eastern corner of Allotment 107 of the aforesaid parish;
thence by the northern boundary of Allotment 107 aforesaid
to and across a public road, and again by the northern
boundary of Allotment 107 aforesaid to its north-western
corner; thence by a right line to the northernmost corner
of Allotment 136, Maungatapere Parish; thence by the
western boundary of said Allotment 136 to the northern
boundary of the Maungakaramea Parish ; thence westerly
along that boundary to and across the Waioneapa Stream;
thence by the Waioneapa Stream and the Wouotama River
to the Whangarei County boundary as described in New
Zealand Gazette, 1923, page 851 ; thence by the Whangarei
County to and across the Wairua River to the point of com-
mencement.

Maungakaramea Riding : All that area in the North Auck-
land Land District, situated in the County of Whangarei,
bounded towards the north by the Maunu Riding, herein-
before described, from the Whangarei County boundary to
the Whangarei Borough, and by the southern boundary of
Whangarei Borough aforesaid to Whangarei Harbour ; thence
by the Whangarei Harbour and the Mangapai River to the
southern boundary of Maungakaramea Parish; thence to-
wards the south by the southern boundary of Maungakara-
mea Parish aforesaid to and by the Tauraroa River to the
Whangarei County boundary; thence by the Whangarei
County boundary aforesaid to the Maunu Riding, the point
of commencement: including the limestone island in Wha-
ngarei Harbour.

Mangapai Riding : All that area in the North Auckland
Land District, situated in the County of Whangarei, bounded
towards the north by the Maungakaramea Riding, herein-
before described, from the western Whangarei County bound-
ary to the Mangapai River ; thence by the Mangapai River
and the Whangarei Harbour to the eastern boundary of the
Parish of Mata ; thence by the eastern boundary of the Parish
of Mata, the western boundary of the Parish of Ruakaka,
the northern and western boundaries of Parish of Waipu, to
the Whangarei County boundary ; thence by the Whangarei
County boundary to the Maungakaramea Riding, the point
of commencement.

(d.) That the alterations hereby made in the number of
Councillors to be elected to the said Council shall take effect
at the general election of Councillors to be held on the 12th
day of May, 1926, except in so far and to such extent as may
be necessary for preparing any rolls or otherwise providing for
that election, and for the purpose of preparing and adjusting
valuation rolls, and making financial adjustments between
ridings as from the close of the financial year, 31st March,
1926.

special meeting of the Whangarei County Council held on
