Dismissal from the Forces.

HIS Excellency the Governor-General has approved of the dismissal of the undermentioned from the New Zealand Defence Forces, under section 6 (b), Defence Act, 1909, he having been convicted by the Civil power :—

Amending Regulations for the Carriage of Deck Cargo.

WHEREAS by Warrant dated the 26th day of April, 1911, and the 13th day of May, 1923, and published in the New Zealand Gazette No. 36, of the 4th day of May, 1911, and No. 42, of the 22nd day of May, 1913, respectively, regulations were made governing the issue of licenses for the carriage of cargo and live-stock on the decks of vessels:
And whereas it is desirable to make an additional regulation as hereinafter prescribed:
Now, therefore, I, George James Anderson, Minister of Marine, in pursuance and exercise of the power and authority conferred upon me by section 223 of the Shipping and Seamen Act, 1908, and of all other powers and authorities enabling me in that behalf, do hereby make the following additional regulation :—
“30 (b.) On scows the whole or part of whose deck cargo is petroleum, such petroleum may be stowed from rail to rail with a flat and even surface fore and aft and athwartship; and it shall be properly secured to the satisfaction of the Superintendent. Such lines as he may require for the protection of life shall be properly fitted and secured and planking placed to enable persons to pass to and fro over the petroleum.”

Importation of Sardines.
Customs Department,
Wellington, 24th November, 1925.
IT is hereby notified for general information that it has been decided to withdraw the notifications gazetted on 13th April, 1916, and 22nd June, 1916, with respect to the importation of sardines.
In accordance with the provisions of paragraph (b) of subsection (1) of section 96 of the Patents, Designs, and Trade-marks Act, 1908, no fish labelled “sardines” will in future be prohibited from importation by the Customs Department unless and until security is given as provided for in the regulations under the Patents, Designs, and Trade-marks Act, 1908, gazetted on 19th March, 1914.
A notification will be published in the New Zealand Gazette if, at any future time, the security referred to above is given.
It should, however, be understood that no guarantee is given that proceedings will not be taken if fish labelled as “Sardines” are sold in New Zealand in breach of the Patents, Designs, and Trade-marks Act, 1908.

Regulations as to Drainage and Plumbing under the Health Act, 1920, applied to the County of Hawke's Bay. (H. 2/27.)

WHEREAS by an Order in Council made on the 3rd day of September, 1923, and gazetted on the 6th day of the same month, regulations (to be cited as “the Drainage and Plumbing Regulations”) were made under the Health Act, 1920, prescribing the conditions to be observed in the construction of approved drains, septic tanks, sanitary conveniences, and sanitary appliances:
And whereas by the said regulations it was provided that the same were suspended as provided in the said Act:
And whereas by section 133 of the said Act it is enacted that the operation of any such regulations may, if so provided therein, be wholly suspended until they are applied by the Minister by notice in the Gazette to any part of New Zealand:
Now, therefore, I, Maui Pomare, Minister of Health, in exercise of the power and authority given by the said regulations and by section 133 of the said Act, do hereby apply the said regulations to the County of Hawke’s Bay, and do hereby declare that this notice shall take effect on the 1st day of December, 1925.

Halswell Beacon Light installed.
ADVERTING to Notice to Mariners No. 63, of 5th August, 1925, information is hereby given that on and after the evening of Tuesday, 8th December, 1925, an automatic unwatched flashing white light, three seconds, length of flash one-third second, 26 ft., vis. 6 M., will be exhibited from the top of the white octagonal-shaped concrete beacon 9 ft. in width and 21 ft. in height, situated on the northern extreme at low water of Point Halswell.
The light is visible from 063°, through east, to 294° : obscured elsewhere.
