Meetings of Canterbury Land Board.

NOTICE is hereby given, in pursuance of section 54 of the Land Act, 1924, that His Excellency the Governor-General has approved of meetings of the Canterbury Land Board being held at the District Lands and Survey Office, Christchurch, at 10 o’clock a.m., on Wednesday, 20th January, 17th February, 17th March, 21st April, 19th May, 16th June, 21st July, 18th August, 15th September, 20th October, 17th November, and 8th December, during the year 1926.

Notice under the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22, prohibiting the Sale within the City of Wanganui of certain Goods comprised in the Trade of a Tobacconist.
WHEREAS a petition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the tobacconists’ shops within the City of Wanganui, has been forwarded to me, desiring that the sale of certain goods comprised in the trade of a tobacconist—namely, tobacco, cigarettes, walking-sticks, and smokers’ sundries—be prohibited during such time as the said shops are required to be closed in pursuance of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22 :
And whereas I, George James Anderson, Minister of Labour, am satisfied that the sale of the said goods is comprised in the trade of a tobacconist within the said city, and that the signatures to such petition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the said shops within the said city :
Now, therefore, in pursuance of section 33 of the said Act, I do hereby direct that on and after the 23rd day of November, 1925, the sale of the said goods within the said city shall be and is hereby prohibited as follows—On Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays after the hour of 6 p.m., and on Fridays after the hour of 9 p.m., with the following exceptions—(1) On the working-day immediately preceding any of the following days—viz., Boxing Day, Good Friday, Easter Saturday, Easter Monday, Labour Day, the birthday of the reigning sovereign, and any day which pursuant to Proclamation by the Governor-General, or declaration by the Government, or on the request of the Mayor or Chairman of the local authority, is generally observed as a public holiday or half-holiday—after the hour of 9 p.m. ; (2) on the working-day immediately preceding each day of the Wanganui Agricultural Show, the Wanganui Jockey Club’s races, the Wanganui Trotting Club’s races, and the evening of such race-days, except when the race-day falls on the usual weekly half-holiday, after the hour of 9 p.m. ; (3) on the last fourteen working-days in the month of December and the first six working-days in the month of January, with the exception of Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, after the hour of 9 p.m., and on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, after the hour of 11.30 p.m.
The notice dated the 9th January, 1923, and published in the New Zealand Gazette of the 11th January, 1923, prohibiting the sale in the Borough of Wanganui of certain goods comprised in the trade of a tobacconist is hereby cancelled as from the date of the coming into operation of this notice.

Notice under the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22, fixing the Closing-hours of Tobacconists’ Shops within the City of Wanganui.
WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the tobacconists’ shops within the City of Wanganui, has been forwarded to me, desiring that all such shops within the said city be closed in the evening of working-days as follows—On Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays at 6 p.m., and on Fridays at 9 p.m., with the following exceptions—(1) Should the occupier of any tobacconist’s shop within the City of Wanganui observe any day other than Thursday as the statutory closing-day, the closing-hour for any such shop on Thursday shall be 6 p.m. ; (2) the working-day immediately preceding any of the following days, Boxing Day, Good Friday, Easter Saturday, Easter Monday, Labour Day, the birthday of the reigning Sovereign, and any day which pursuant to Proclamation by the Governor-General, or declaration by the Government, or on the request of the Mayor or Chairman of the local authority is generally observed as a public holiday or half-holiday, when the closing-hour shall be 9 p.m. ; (3) the working-day immediately preceding each day of the Wanganui Agricultural Show, the Wanganui Jockey Club’s races, the Wanganui Trotting Club’s races, and the evening of such race-days, when the closing-hour shall be 9 p.m., except when the race-day falls on the usual weekly half-holiday ; (4) the last fourteen working-days in the month of December and the first six working-days of January, when the closing-hour shall be 9 p.m., except on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, when the closing-hour shall be 11.30 p.m. :

The notice dated the 18th May, 1921, and published in the New Zealand Gazette of the 26th May, 1921, fixing the closing-hours of tobacconists’ shops in the Borough of Wanganui, is hereby cancelled as from the date of the coming into operation of this notice.

Handicraft Teachers’ Certificate Examination, August, 1925.

THE following are the results of the Handicraft Teachers’ Certificate Examination (Section 1) held in August last in conjunction with the Class D Certificate Examination. List I contains the name of the candidate who passed in Section 1 completely, while List II shows the candidates who obtained partial pass in the 1st section, having reached the pass minimum in all except one subject. The pass lists show also the examination centres and the branch of the subject (woodwork or metalwork) in which the candidates entered for examination. Those candidates who have obtained partial pass in Section 1 will be permitted, if they desire, to enter for examination in the subject of failure in order to complete their qualification in Section 1 at the same time as they are offering for examination the subjects of Section II :
