NEW ZEALAND.—SOUTH ISLAND.—FOVEAUX STRAIT.

Dog Island Light temporarily discontinued, and Temporary Light to be exhibited.
NOTICE is hereby given that commencing on the evening of Thursday, 1st October, 1923, the existing Dog Island Light will be discontinued for the purpose of conversion from a catadioptric to a dioptric system, and will not be exhibited until such conversion has been completed.
Throughout the conversion period three temporary fixed white lights will be shown from the same tower at a position about 2 ft. lower than the height at which the original light is shown.
The three temporary fixed white lights, which are of the fifth order, will be placed horizontally disposed about 5 ft. apart equidistant on a circular platform inside the lantern,

and may from close range appear as two lights close together; but at some distance and on some bearings they will blend together and appear as one fixed light.
The temporary lights should in clear weather be visible for a distance of 10 M. (approx.).
Further notice will be given respecting the completion of the conversion and reintroduction of the normal characteristics of this light.
