Marine Department,
Wellington, N.Z., 10th July, 1925.
THE following notification, received from the Secretary of State for the Colonies, London, relative to the above, is published for the information of Mariners and others:
The French Government have expressed their willingness to allow British seamen who have been paid off from their ships at a French port, or who arrive in France for the purpose of joining their ships, to re-embark or to land on production of their discharge-books furnished with a photograph.
This arrangement will obviate the necessity for British seamen passing through a French port to hold a passport or any other document of identity, and any case of a refusal on the part of the French authorities to allow the embarkation or landing of a British seaman whose discharge-book is in order should be notified without delay.
Any British seaman, arriving at any port, to whose discharge-book no photograph has been affixed should be warned of the desirability of having this done.
