Prescribing the Rate of Interest that may be paid by the Cromwell Borough Council in respect of a Loan of £2,000, authorized to be raised for the Purpose of Liquidating a Matured Loan.

At the Government House at Wellington this 6th day of July, 1925.

Present:

HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL IN COUNCIL.

WHEREAS by section eleven of the Finance Act, 1921, and its amendments, it is provided that, notwithstanding anything to the contrary in any Act or in any rule of law, where a local authority or public body has been authorized before the passing of the said Act, or is thereafter authorized, to borrow money, whether pursuant to a poll of ratepayers or otherwise howsoever, whether the rate of interest or the term of years of the loan was or was not specified or determined, and such money or any part thereof has not been borrowed, the local authority may, with the precedent consent of the Minister of Finance, borrow such money, or such amount thereof as has not been borrowed, at such rate of interest, or for such term, as may be prescribed by the Governor-General by Order in Council:

And whereas the Cromwell Borough Council has been authorized to borrow the sum of two thousand pounds for the purpose of liquidating a matured loan:

And whereas the Minister of Finance has given his precedent consent as required by the above-recited section eleven, and it is desired that the rate of interest at which the money may be borrowed be not exceeding six per centum per annum:

Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the power and authority vested in him as aforesaid, and acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said Dominion, doth hereby prescribe that the rate of interest that may be paid by the Cromwell Borough Council in respect of the said loan of two thousand pounds shall be a rate not exceeding six per centum per annum, and the said Cromwell Borough Council is hereby authorized to borrow the said sum of two thousand pounds accordingly.

Consenting to the Raising of Loans by certain Local Authorities.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.

At the Government House at Wellington this 6th day of July, 1925.

Present:

HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL IN COUNCIL.

WHEREAS application has been made under section twenty, subsection one, of the Finance Act, 1919, for the precedent consent of the Governor-General in Council to enable the several local authorities mentioned in the Schedule hereto to borrow the sums set out therein, and it is expedient that such consent should issue:

Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said Dominion, doth hereby consent to the raising of the loans hereinafter mentioned by the several local authorities set out in the Schedule hereto, and it is hereby declared that this Order in Council is made under the provisions in that behalf of the Finance Act, 1919, and shall operate accordingly as a consent of the Governor-General in Council to the raising of the said loans.

Opening Settlement Lands in Wellington Land District for Selection.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the Land Act, 1924, and the Land for Settlements Act, 1908, and amendments, I, General Sir Charles Fergusson, Baronet, Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby declare that the settlement lands described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for selection on renewable lease on Monday, the twenty-fourth day of August, one thousand nine hundred and twenty-five, at the rentals mentioned in the said Schedule; and I do also declare that the said lands shall be leased under and subject to the provisions of the said Acts.


SCHEDULE.

WELLINGTON LAND DISTRICT.—SETTLEMENT LAND.—FIRST-CLASS LAND.

Horowhenua County.—Kaitawa Survey District.—Lewis Settlement.

SECTIONS 38 and 39, Block III: Area, 177 acres 3 roods 32 perches. Capital value, £3,200; £1,000*. Renewable lease: Half-yearly rent, £72; £39†.

  • Valuation for buildings.

† Half-yearly instalment of principal and interest on buildings, comprising dwelling, seven rooms (good order) with dairy attached; cottage, four rooms (old); cow-byre and milk-cooler, cart-shed, slaughter-house and other outbuildings: to be paid for in cash or in twenty-one years by forty-two half-yearly instalments of £39. Total half-yearly payment on lease, £111.

Situated two miles and a half from Te Horo Railway-station, school, and dairy factory. Access by good metalled road. Well watered by streams. Altitude, 100 ft. to 500 ft. This property consists of about 60 acres of ploughable land, remainder hilly. It is situated in a warm gully, lies well to the sun, and is at the same time sheltered from the cold winds. Soil is of a clay loam, resting on sandstone formation.

Manawatu County.—Fairfield Settlement.

Section 6s and Lot 1 of Section 8s; Area, 186 acres 1 rood 32 perches. Capital value, £3,100; £300*. Renewable lease: Half-yearly rent, £69 15s.; £11 14s.†.

  • Valuation for buildings.

† Half-yearly instalment of principal and interest on buildings, consisting of a dwelling and outbuildings; to be paid for in cash or in twenty-one years by forty-two half-yearly payments of £11 14s. Total half-yearly payment on lease, £81 9s.

Situated eight miles from the Feilding Railway-station and five miles from the Rongotea Dairy Factory. Comprises all ploughable land, suitable for growing root-crops; 100 acres at present under plough. Watered by dams. Suitable for mixed farming.

As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor-General, this 3rd day of July, 1925.
