County of Chatham Islands divided into Ridings. - Arrangements for First Election, &c.

A PROCLAMATION.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities vested in me by the Counties Act, 1920, I, General Sir Charles Fergusson, Baronet, Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby divide the County of Chatham Islands into five ridings, to be called the Northern Riding, the Central Riding, the Eastern Riding, the Southern Riding, and the Pitt and Outlying Islands Riding, and declare that the boundaries thereof shall be those set forth in the Schedule hereto:

And I do also declare that two members shall be elected for each of the aforesaid ridings:

And I do further declare that George Roslyn Drew, of Chatham Islands, shall be the person to prepare the electors roll for all ridings in the said county and also Returning Officer to conduct the first election of members of the Council of the said county; that Saturday, the twenty-seventh day of June, one thousand nine hundred and twenty-five, shall be the day, and the Club-room, Waitangi, Chatham Islands, shall be the place, for holding such first election; that Ryan Holmes, of Chatham Islands, shall be the Clerk of the said Council for the purpose of presiding at the first meeting thereof; and that Saturday, the fourth day of July, one thousand nine hundred and twenty-five, at two o'clock in the afternoon, shall be the time, and the aforesaid Club-room, Waitangi, Chatham Islands, shall be the place, at which the said first meeting shall be held.

SCHEDULE.

NORTHERN RIDING.

ALL that area in the Wellington Land District, Chatham Islands County, bounded by a line commencing at Point Alison and proceeding easterly generally along high-water mark of the sea to Point Munning; thence south-westerly generally along high-water mark of the sea to the north-eastern boundary of Te Awapatiki No. 1 Block; thence north-westerly along that boundary to Te Whanga Lagoon; thence south-westerly along a right line to the north-eastern corner of Kerikerione I.E. Block ; thence westerly along the northern boundary of the last-named block to the sea; thence north-westerly, westerly, and northerly generally along high-water mark of the sea to the place of commencement.

CENTRAL RIDING.

ALL that area in the Wellington Land District, Chatham Islands County, bounded by a line commencing at the A

north-west corner of Kerikerione I.E. Block and proceeding easterly along the northern boundary of that block to the sea ; thence southerly generally along high-water mark of the sea to the north-east corner of the Matarae No. 2 Block; thence westerly along the northern boundary of the last-named block; thence south-westerly along a right line across Lake Huro to the outflow of that lake at Mangape Creek; thence south-westerly generally down that creek; and thence north-westerly down the Nairn River to the sea; thence northerly generally along high-water mark of the sea to the place of commencement.

EASTERN RIDING.

All that area in the Wellington Land District, Chatham Islands County, bounded by a line commencing at the confluence of the Nairn River and the Mangape Creek and proceeding north-easterly and northerly generally along the south-eastern and eastern boundaries respectively of Central Riding; thence north-easterly and south-easterly respectively along the south-eastern and south-western boundaries respectively of Northern Riding to the sea; thence southerly, easterly, again southerly and south-westerly generally along high-water mark of the sea to the easternmost corner of Otonga No. 1 Block, Sub. 14; thence northerly along the eastern boundaries of the last-named subdivision, Otonga No. 1 Sub. 13, and Otonga No. 1E 4B Block to the place of commencement.

SOUTHERN RIDING.

All that area in the Wellington Land District, Chatham Islands County, bounded by a line commencing at Point Durham and proceeding north-easterly generally along high-water mark of the sea to the mouth of the Nairn River; thence southerly generally along the western boundaries of Central and Eastern Ridings, hereinbefore described, to the sea; thence south-westerly and north-westerly generally along high-water mark of the sea to the place of commencement.

PITT AND OUTLYING ISLANDS RIDING.

All that area in the Wellington Land District, Chatham Islands County, comprising Pitt and outlying islands.

Given under the hand of His Excellency the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, and issued under the Seal of that Dominion, this 25th day of May, 1925.
