schools shall be the salaries of the grades (as defined in Schedule IV
hereunder) prescribed for those teachers in Schedules I, II, and III
hereunder.

And so on, a subgrade of school and a female assistant of Grade 1 being
added for each additional 40 in average attendance.

NOTES. — (a.) Where on the coming into operation of this Order a
position assigned to a male assistant teacher in this schedule is filled
by a female or vice versa, the present holder shall continue in the position
unless, on the recommendation of the Senior Inspector, the Board de-
cides that a transfer to another position is necessary in the interests of
the school.

(b.) A female assistant of the same grade may be substituted for a
male and vice versa where, in the opinion of the Board and the Senior
Inspector, such a substitution is necessary in the interests of the school,
provided that the provisions of clauses 38, 39, and 40 of these regulations
are complied with.

(c.) Where the grade of salary attached to any position of an assistant
teacher in this Schedule is higher than the grade provided for such position
in the regulations heretofore in force, such higher grade shall not operate
till 1st February, 1925, unless the Director shall approve of an earlier date.
