Existence of Shoals.
A DVERTING to Notice to Mariners No. 41 issued at Wellington on the 14th July, 1924, relating to the reported existence of shoals to the northward and to the north-westward of Jackson’s Head at the entrance to Queen Charlotte Sound, Cook Strait: Further information is hereby given that an examination of this locality recently performed by the Government steamer “Tutanekai” shows the existence of a shoal to the north-westward of Jackson’s Head in the following position: Latitude 40° 56·4′ south, longitude 174° 19·3′ east, Jackson’s Head Beacon bearing 168°, distant 3¼ miles; Walker Rock and Cape Koamaru extreme in transit bearing 157°; Lambert Point and the high part of overhanging cliff in transit bearing 231°.
The least water discovered by the “Tutanekai” when anchored on the shoal was 28 ft. at M.L.W.S. The shoal is rocky and of small area, having soundings of 10, 15, and 20 fathoms rocky bottom close to.
Vessels of moderate or deep draught should keep at least two miles to the north-eastward of a straight line drawn between Cook Rock and Stephens Island as other shoal rocky patches, having depths between 8 and 10 fathoms over them, and which have not yet been examined, are reported to exist between Stephens Island and the 28 ft. shoal to which this notice mainly relates.
This notice cancels Notice to Mariners No. 41 of 14th July, 1924.

Hokitika Light discontinued.
I NFORMATION is hereby given that the fixed white light formerly exhibited from a white tower on Gaol Hill, one mile north of the flagstaff at the entrance to Hokitika River, in latitude 42° 42′ south, longitude 170° 59′ east, has been permanently discontinued.

Notice to Mariners No. 75 of 1924.

Dredger operating.
T HE Wanganui Harbour Board notify a bucket dredger is now operating in that part of the river locally known as Mitchell’s Reach, commencing operations on No. 2 Pile, the dredger’s moorings being laid well clear of the line of leading beacons in this channel.
Between sunrise and sunset the dredger will exhibit two black spherical shapes and between sunset and sunrise two all-round red lights, all vertically disposed on the side on which vessels must pass.
Vessels must slacken speed when in the vicinity of the dredger.
