THE NEW ZEALAND GAZETTE.

Any one of the following persons is held to be duly qualified: (a) Members and late members of the Nobel Committee of the Norwegian Parliament, as well as the advisers appointed at the Norwegian Nobel Institute; (b) members of Parliament and members of Government of the different States, as well as members of the Interparliamentary Union; (c) members of the International Arbitration Court at the Hague; (d) members of the Commission of the Permanent International Peace Bureau; (e) members and associates of the Institute of International Law; (f) university professors of political science and of law, of history, and of philosophy; and (g) persons who have received the Nobel Peace Prize.

The Nobel Peace Prize may also be accorded to institutions or associations.

According to the Code of Statutes, par. 8, the grounds upon which any proposal is made must be stated, and handed in along with such papers and other documents as may therein be referred to.

According to par. 3, every written work, to qualify for a prize, must have appeared in print.

For particulars, qualified persons are requested to apply to the office of the Nobel Committee of the Norwegian Parliament, Drammensvei 19, Kristiania.

Notice of Intention to take Land in Blocks IX and X, Pakiri Survey District, for the Purposes of a Road.


NOTICE is hereby given that it is proposed, under the provisions of the Public Works Act, 1908, to execute a certain public work—to wit, the construction of a road in Blocks IX and X, Pakiri Survey District, and for the purposes of such public work the land described in the Schedule hereto is required to be taken. And notice is hereby further given that the plan of the land so required to be taken is deposited in the post-office at Pakiri, and is there open for inspection; and that all persons affected by the execution of the said public work or by the taking of the said land should, if they have any well grounded objections to the execution of the said public work or to the taking of such land, set forth the same in writing, and send such writing, within forty days from the first publication of this notice, to the Minister of Public Works at Wellington.


SCHEDULE.

APPROXIMATE area of the piece of land required to be taken: 6 acres 0 roods 29 perches.

Portion of Pakiri No. 1a, Blocks IX and X, Pakiri Survey District (Auckland R.D.). (S.O. 22447.)

In the North Auckland Land District; as the same is more particularly delineated on the plan marked P.W.D. 61040, deposited in the office of the Minister of Public Works at Wellington, in the Wellington Land District, and thereon coloured pink.

Prohibition of Issue of Money-order and Transmission of Postal Correspondence for James Lomax and J. L. Lomax, Sydney.


THE Postmaster-General of the Dominion of New Zealand having reasonable ground for supposing that the persons whose names and addresses are shown in the Schedule hereunder are engaged in promoting or carrying out a lottery or scheme of chance, it is hereby ordered, under section 28 of the Post and Telegraph Act, 1908, that no money-order in favour of either of the said persons shall be issued, and that no postal packet addressed to either of the said persons (either by his own or any fictitious or assumed name), or addressed to either of the addresses in the Schedule hereunder without a name, shall be either registered or forwarded by the Post Office of New Zealand.

Alteration to the Scale of Fares, Rates, and Charges in Force upon the New Zealand Government Railways.


IN pursuance of all powers and authorities enabling me under the Government Railways Act, 1908, and its amendments, I, Joseph Gordon Coates, Minister of Railways, do hereby make the following alterations in the scale of fares, rates, and charges in force on the New Zealand Government Railways open for traffic.


PARTS III AND IV.—GOODS RATES.

On and after 7th November, 1924, the charges for conveyance of wool will be increased by one-fourth (¼) instead of two-fifths (⅖) as provided for in New Zealand Gazette No. 76, of 24th August, 1920, page 2523.


PART IV.—GOODS, LOCAL RATES,

Picton Section.

Through Booking of Binder-twine from Lyttelton to Blenheim and Intermediate Stations, via Picton.

On and after 29th October, 1924, binder-twine booked through by steamer and rail from Lyttelton to Blenheim and intermediate stations via Picton, by the Canterbury Steam Shipping Company’s vessels will be charged 27s. per ton measurement, including wharfage and handling at Picton.


Auckland Section.

On and after 13th November, 1924, benzine and kerosene consigned from Auckland to Frankton Junction in lots of not less than 1,000 cases will be charged 45s. per ton.

Notice under the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22, prohibiting the Sale in the Borough of Hamilton of certain Goods comprised in the Trade of a Grocer.


WHEREAS a petition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the grocers’ shops within the Borough of Hamilton has been forwarded to me, desiring that the sale of certain goods comprised in the trade of a grocer—namely, sugar, rolled oats, pearl barley, cornflour, macaroni, coffee essence, honey, golden syrup, treacle, salt, pepper, spices, mustard, baking-powder, ginger, lemon-peel washing-powder, household soap, orange-peel, tea, coffee, cocoa, candles, rice, sago, tapioca, flour, oatmeal, jam, tinned fish, starch, blue—be prohibited during such times as the said shops are required to be closed in pursuance of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22, or of any award:

And whereas I, George James Anderson, Minister of Labour, am satisfied that the sale of the said goods is comprised in the trade of a grocer in the said district, and that the signatures to such petition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the said shops in the said district:

Now, therefore, in pursuance of section 33 of the said Act, I do hereby direct that on and after the 8th day of December, 1924, the sale of the said goods in the Borough of Hamilton shall be and is hereby prohibited as follows—On Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays after the hour of 5:30 p.m., on Fridays after the hour of 6 p.m., and on Saturdays after the hour of 12.30 p.m.

THE following claim for registration of school colours is gazetted in accordance with regulations published in the New Zealand Gazette of the 12th August, 1915.

Any objection to the claim set forth must be addressed to “The Registration Officer for School Colours, &c., Education Department, Wellington,” and must be delivered at that address within forty days of the publication hereof.
